We are sitting at the Starbucks on Brighton Beach Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, catching up on email and other things cyber. This is about a mile from my mother’s apartment (which is sadly not wired), so Jerry and I strolled over here a short time ago after Jerry had quite a lie-in this morning. We arrived yesterday at Kennedy Airport from Los Angeles at 10:00 pm (that’s 22:00 in Euro-time… for our dear cousin in Norway who always gets “a.m.” and “p.m.” confused; military time makes a lot more sense anyway).

I plan to share lots of pictures while we’re here. I don’t think there’s any place quite like it. I can’t wait to have my first — and possibly last — hot dog and French fries from the original Nathan’s in Coney Island (the adjacent neighborhood on the beach). But, right now we have to finish our coffees and get back home to my mother before I feel really guilty!
I remember Brighton well… Grew up on Neptune Avenue. Hoping, at least, that Mrs. Stahl's is still there.
It seems like every single day you're someplace else!

Lots of products from the US are also available in Europe, maybe not Nathan's wiener but something similar… 😉

Hmmm… I posted responses via my iPhone last night, but don't know where they went. So…
Scott: You seem surprised there are ads for single girls appearing on my blog. Isn't that my demographic? (Seriously, I hate some of the ads that show up; but the $12 I've made sure has come in handy.)
Peter: A.M. and P.M. really are a waste of time. I'm happy to make the switch to 24-hour clock. By the way, once you've had Nathan's wiener, you'll never want another. But, for me at least, it's only good from the original here in Coney Island. Maybe it's the sea air.
Walt the Fourth: Wish I had more photos to post right now. Will take lots of pix during the week. Haven't done much but lunch and nap these last two days.
Craig: I guess we need to get into a New York state of mind. Maybe I'll stroll Coney Island Sunday and Monday and take pictures. It's 4th of July (Independence Day) Weekend here. There will be a lot of activity on the boardwalk. Thanks yet again for coming along!
