I love jacarandas. The trees are in bloom all around Sevilla. Few leaves yet. Just magical masses of violet flowers set off against the dark wood of the branches and trunks. Take a walk with me.

Thank You for this post! We have wintered in Mexico many times and one of the beauties I love are the jacarandas. We're in Ohio right now and sure as heck won't see anything like that here! You're really making me think seriously about spending a few months in Spain.

I always loved the jacarandas in Southern California, but had never seen so many large, old trees. They are spectacular. Start making your plans for a few months in Spain!

Hmmm… I'm not aware of a jacaranda fragrance … other than the usual springtime fragrances that make me smile (while they make my eyes itch, my head hurt, my ears clog, my nose run).

I first saw these trees when we moved to San Diego in '93; they took my breath away. Seeing such huge old trees here is almost overwhelming.
Trees are a damned good invention, damned good!

I had wanted to get a closer photo of Murillo from the front, but the light wasn't right. We are so glad we chose Sevilla.
Dudo would appreciate some attention right now. He's standing behind my chair with his front paws on my shoulder … mewing. He wants me to play. I just have played for 20 minutes and I thought I had worn him out. No such luck. Kids!
I just can't get over how beautiful Sevilla is. It doesn't seem like Spain is "on the map" for many American tourists–I wonder why that is? It's so beautiful and historic!

Sevilla is a magical place for me. And, although we do see plenty of Americans, I think you're right that this is not as common a vacation spot for Americans as are places in Italy for example.

I wonder if they can grow where you are. They're really stunning and still in full bloom here. The petals make a huge (but artistic) mess on the pavement as they drop.
