Beautiful, Exotic, and Growing in Sevilla

There is always something growing, budding, and blooming in the city of Sevilla. My allergies have been running rampant as I work my way through my first spring and early summer in my still-new city. I’m hoping things won’t be quite so bad next year. But it really doesn’t matter. I’m not leaving. The clogged ears and stuffed head is a small price to pay for the beauty and magic that surrounds us. The streets, plazas, and parks are filled with a huge variety of blooming plants and trees. Being in our apartment this time of year is like living in a tree house.

SUMMER AT OUR HOUSE.  YOU CAN’T SEE THE PLAZA FOR THE TREES.

WHAT A SURPRISE.  BLOOMING IN OUR LIVING ROOM.
ON THE ISLAND OF CARTUJA, DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE.

HIBISCUS IN THE GARDENS OF MURILLO,
NEXT TO THE BARRIO SANTA CRUZ (THE OLD JEWISH QUARTER).

IN A TREE ACROSS FROM OUR PLAZA.

TOTALLY JAZZY BLOOMS IN THE ALAMEDA DE HERCULES.
(REALLY INCREDIBLE MUSIC…AND HAIR.)

IN MARIA LUISA PARK NEXT TO PLAZA DE ESPAÑA.

A TYPICAL SIGHT IN THE CITY,
OPEN FRONT DOORS WITH A VIEW THROUGH WROUGHT IRON INTO A GARDEN COURTYARD.
THIS IS THE COMMON AREA OF FOUR APARTMENTS.

AS AN OLD FRIEND FROM TEXAS WOULD SAY, “IT’S FIXIN’ TA BLOOM.”

  1. what a blessed man you are Mr.B….to have such beauty all around. I'm glad you are able to slow down and take time to enjoy it, so many of us in this busy world don't. Thank you for sharing, truly amazing.

  2. It sounds like all those hot days made the flowers grow which produced the pollen that makes your allergies kick up. Just be glad you don't have mosquitoes! Your "giant asparagus" is doing surprising things!

    1. Kristi:
Sevilla is filled with what grew in Southern California… and then some.

As for word verification, that comes from Google and I have no control over it. I have the same problem when I visit other people. Sometimes I can easily read it, other times it takes three tries! Thanks for sticking with me.

  3. I see what you mean about the allergies being secondary…..Sevilla is breathtaking! I'll take that courtyard thank you very much! Hands off Mark!

  4. Man oh man, I just love your photos! The tile work is amaaaaaaaazing! The colors are amazing! The plants are amazing!

I thought of you and Jerry today when they announced our forecast for this weekend: 108°F Friday and Saturday!!! I said, "What?!? Where are we, Sevilla????" We don't usually get THAT hot. Yuck!

    1. Seine Judith:
We've been lucky and it hasn't gotten as hot as forecast (but still over 100). So sorry to hear what you have coming!

The tile work is just incredible here. Lisbon is even more famous for exterior tile work. I was there a few years before I started blogging. Will have to get back to take pictures. It really was amazing to see entire building facades covered with it.

  5. I like your observation about living in a tree house. While we don't have the variety of flowers and hot-climate trees that you do, we are surrounded by trees and our main living space and deck is one floor above the ground. I've always said that in summer it feels like we live in a tree house.

    1. Walt the Fourth:
The views you've shown from your house have been so beautiful and serene (even in winter). For us, the view is a huge selling point. Our little apartment in Irvine looked out on pepper trees and palms. Also felt like a treehouse and made the interior feel bigger.

  6. I'm sorry to hear your allergies are running wild, but oh, what a beautiful place. I love the courtyard garden; of course I wouldn't want to share it with other apartments, but I am greedy.

    1. Thanks, Elaine. The allergies are not as bad as they were. So no problem. There are some private homes that look like austere stucco structures until the doors are opened. Those courtyards are really something.

    1. The 100-degree heat squelches a lot of the daytime fragrances, but the evenings are beautiful. The night-blooming jasmine just started up again and reminds us of our house in San Diego. Not a very attractive shrub, but the fragrance at night is beautiful.
