Understanding San Geraldo

This morning at breakfast, San Geraldo tried to tell me about a Youtube video he had just seen. Someone had done a selection of songs.

“You know the show,” he said. “Oh! I’m drawing a blank.”

I stared vacantly. He wasn’t giving me much to go on.

“The Hermit in the Cathedral!” he exclaimed.

I tilted my head and looked at him. I knew there would be more.

He held his hand vertically in front of his face, thumb toward his nose, and sliced downward curving his hand in an “S” as he did so.

“The Phantom of the Opera?” I asked.

“That’s it!”

“The Hermit in the Cathedral?” I questioned.

“Well, it was close.”

“Yeah,” I said, “You got the word ‘The’ right.”

At that moment, Tynan came walking by. San Geraldo, who has no shame, told Tynan what he had just said.

Tynan thought a moment and commented,”Well, it does take place in a cathedral.”

I looked at him askance, “Are you maybe thinking of ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’?”

Before turning to walk away, he smiled sheepishly and said,”Carry on.”

SAN GERALDO ORIGINATING THE ROLE OF “‘THE HERMIT” (IN THE CATHEDRAL).

  1. Well…Well….The character of the Phantom is sort of like a hermit, and the spaces under the opera have a feeling of vastness similar (maybe) to a cathedral……San Geraldo is stretching your imagination……(But it was a good laugh.)

  2. Lol Still sticking to my guns on this one. Ask any sane minded person the question "What was the name of that film?.. you know the one with the Hermit in the Cathedral?..And I am sure that unless you accompanied the question with a flawless rendition of Music of the Night whilst dressed in an appropriate mask and cape the the answer would always probably be "The hunchback of Notre Dame"

Ahem we don´t have to let the fact that you had already told me that it was the Phantom of the Opera before I made the throwaway Cathedral remark cloud my valid point….

So do I. That photo is from the blog post of the First Quadrennial Día de San Geraldo, Feb 29 2012. I photoshopped the robe onto the already crowned San Geraldo.

  3. I was thinking Hunchback, too.
I never would have guessed Phantom.

I'm thinking your San Geraldo and my San Carlos might be distant relatives.

  4. (Sorry, the reply button was stuck.)

Mitchell…I was carrying 3 huge pumpkins that were slipping from my grasp, and was trying to say 'Scrambled Pumpkins'. It wasn't the first time…nor will it be the last…that I fractured the English language, lol.

Thanks for the context. After nearly 32 years with San Geraldo, I did manage to do an auto-translate! I did one of those word scrambles recently. [Conveniently] I can't remember what it was. I make a point of writing them down whenever they're done by San Geraldo. Glad to know you didn't have scrumbled pampkins.
