Let’s Twist Again / Vamos a Bailar El Twist Otra Vez
After bombarding some of you with 1,768 emails yesterday, I don’t want to take up too much of your time today. So, let’s twist again like I did with my cousin in 1963.
Después de bombardear a algunos de vosotros con 1,768 correos electrónicos ayer, no quiero tomar mucho de tu tiempo hoy. Entonces, vamos a bailar El Twist otra vez como lo hice con mi prima en 1963.
From Brooklyn, New York; to North Massapequa; back to Brooklyn; Brockport, New York; back to Brooklyn... To Boston, Massachusetts, where I met Jerry... To Marina del Rey, California; Washington, DC; New Haven and Guilford, Connecticut; San Diego, San Francisco, Palm Springs, and Santa Barbara, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Irvine, California; Sevilla, Spain. And Fuengirola, Málaga..

Ah, the Twist! One dance I can still do as long as I don’t drop it like it’s hot 🙂
Jim,
Glad you enjoyed it, too. And again so sorry about those emails! I felt like a star at that wedding. Everyone stopped to watch us … and then the photo!
Wilma,
Interesting question. I have a photo of him I’ll have to share from my bar mitzvah. He was 7. Other than that, he had a drink our cousin’s wedding — the one I’m twisting with — and danced with one of our aunts — the one in center background in that picture. Thanks for asking; it brought back more memories… and I love that the aunt and cousin are pictured here.
Bob,
Oh yeah, she knew. But at that particular time, she was more concerned with how good SHE looked and the fact that everyone else had stopped dancing to watch us… well her. She’s now a grandmother… and she doesn’t look much different!
Ray,
Ha! I love your interpretation. It was around that time that my sister started dragging me into her room before every major event to teach me how to dance so I wouldn’t embarrass her.

Deedles,
And I’ll bet your milkshake brings all the… well, you know.
Rock and roll with suits and ties. The Summer of Love must not have arrived yet.
1961 & 1963. nope, not quite the summer of love yet.
anne marie,
Oh someone must have been doing it during the summer by then. But this wedding was in the fall.
Kirk,
Things changed so quickly, didn’t they? Six years later I had hair down to my shoulders.
THAT was fun! I needed that after deleting ALL THOSE EMAILS!! lol…..just kidding.
Does that tune ever bring back memories for me!

Look at you go! Did Chuck ever dance?

HOMEBOY! RECOGNIZE! and still living in the philly area too!
anne marie,
Is he really? He had a lot more talent than just the twist!
I never could dance, but that never stopped me from enjoying it.
David,
At that age, I thought I could dance. Sadly, I stopped enjoying it once I became self-conscious.
Your cousin is giving you the,”Yep, he’s gay look.”
The dancing gave it away!
I bet that photo was taken at a wedding or some other big family event, wasn’t it! Looking good!

Debra,
The wedding of our oldest cousin. My mother was one of seven siblings.
I love that picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mistress Maddie,
One of my favorites from that time. I felt famous.
Ah, so NOW we know the meaning of your blog title – and, blimey, what moves!

I’ve got you bookmarked, so I don’t “subscribe” vie email. So I didn’t experience the email drop. But Hillary Clinton…
Walt the Fourth,
Lock me up. Lock me up.
I’m kind of surprised Checker is still alive
Adam:
I always think performers from my childhood were much older than they actually were. Although he’s 77, I would have guessed 90.
OMG my mother is in this picture (and depending what part of 1963 it was, I might be there by proxy)
Kenosha,
I’m not absolutely sure whether it was Michael’s bar mitzvah or Evie’s wedding. Either way, you were there by proxy.
