Just like in biblical times, the Three Kings came from the East. And just like in biblical times(?), they arrived in a police helicopter. Migrants.
At 4:00 Saturday afternoon, the Three Kings landed at Fuengirola’s largest sports complex (Elola Stadium) in the center of town. The parade of floats departed the stadium at 5:30 and wound its way through town for the next four hours, tossing out 6 million gummy candies (23 tons) to happy crowds. This year I decided to witness the landing and forego the parade. Unfortunately, like the Kings, I came from the East, so the sun was in my eyes for most of my photos. (Besides, City officials ruined any good photo opportunity.)

I wish THAT had been announced before the helicopter arrived. All the announcer kept saying was 6 million caramelos. 23 tons is a lot more impressive; I’m going to add that to the post. Thanks!!!

The parade improved significantly in 2015. They replaced the oldest of the Disney floats, added new ones, and keep adding contemporary NON-Disney children’s themes. Also… they stopped throwing hard candy, which could be painful!
Fascinating! Do the kiddies believe these are the actual three kings (ala Santa Claus) or this is merely ceremonial and nobody is fooled ?

I’m sure the kids who would believe in Santa Clause if they lived somewhere else DO believe these are the actual Three Kings. Their beards and costumes are impressive.

Apparently if there are free caramels, everyone is there! It drew quite a crowd, interesting cultural experience

I WISH they were caramels. I wouldn’t miss a minute. Caramelos is the generic word for candies. They used to throw hard candies, which could do serious damage. I tried to remember to wear a hat to protect myself. I saw a man in Sevilla have his glasses knocked off and he ended up with a huge bump on his head. Here they now throw soft gummy candies.
