LAST NIGHT’S VALENTINE’S dinner at Mesón Salvador was beyond compare. Chef David outdid himself and the entire staff once again seemed to have as good a time as their guests. The theme was the romance of Venice and the team dressed as gondoliers. They even grew mustaches for the occasion (which were already shaved off this morning). Waiter Jaime is fluent in Italian (as well as Spanish and English), so he added another level of authenticity… and charm.
LA CENA DE San Valentín de anoche en Mesón Salvador fue incomparable. El chef David se superó a sí mismo y, una vez más, todo el personal parecía tener tan buen momento como sus invitados. El tema fue el romance de Venecia y el equipo vestido como gondoleros. Incluso cultivaron bigotes para la ocasión (que ya se habían afeitado esta mañana). El camarero Jaime habla con fluidez el italiano (además del español y el inglés), por lo que agregó otro nivel de autenticidad … y encanto.

Jaime’s wife hated the mustache. Carillada is very popular here. I like to think of it as carillada and not as pig cheeks!
How is San Geraldo keeping that mask on? I fear he may tip over.

Once again, you post fabulous food photos! I’m eating my lunch as I type this….middle school cafeteria food…..yuck!! Seeing all your wonderful food while I eat this slop is nearly making me cry!!

I’m so sorry about the cafeteria food. But this meal was the best Mesón Salvador has ever produced. From start to finish, every plate was delicious, unusual, and surprising. Amazing. And, again, sorry about the cafeteria food!
I see San Geraldo fully entered into the spirit of things! Once again, a fabulous meal and a fun waitstaff!

I have never had the opportunity (thank god) to enjoy VD but I have enjoyed VD.
I had no idea VD was celebrated in Spain ! And it looks like they do it quite well.

I don’t know when the tradition began here in Spain. But in Barcelona they also celebrate El Día de Sant Jordi on April 23 (because Saint George saved that princess from that dragon) and in Valencia they celebrate the Día de San Dionisio (Dionysius… no explanation needed) on October 9.
