WHEN WE FIRST met Nick and Alyson a few years ago during one of their visits to Fuengirola, Nick was charming, outgoing, and sometimes (like us), childlike. While Alyson was also warm and charming, she appeared to be very proper, polished, and adult. Well, appearances can be deceiving. Alyson knows how to have a good time and, she’s quite the daredevil. There aren’t too many adventures that would scare her off. For example, she has tried to convince San Geraldo that swimming with sharks is safe and wonderful (although she has a nervous breakdown if she sees a spider).
When we arrived Wednesday night at Fuengirola’s World People’s Fair, Alyson was drawn to any ride that went fast, backwards, and upside down. San Geraldo and I said we’d hold their bags. I spotted a wall nearby, pulled myself up (even WITH my Sciatica) like the trained acrobat that I am, and got comfortable. San Geraldo decided to do the same, but not with the same result. (He’s got a bit more to heft.) I finally pointed out some steps that led to the parking lot and suggested he use those and then climb DOWN onto the wall instead. Even that was not so easy to accomplish. And, when the ride was over and Nick and Alyson met up with us again, San Geraldo jumped into Alyson’s outstretched arms. I told you she’s a daredevil.

CUANDO NOS CONOCIMOS por primera vez con Nick y Alyson hace unos años durante una de sus visitas a Fuengirola, Nick era encantador, extrovertido, y a veces (como nosotros), infantil. Si bien Alyson también era cálida y encantadora, parecía ser muy apropiada, pulida, y adulta. Bueno, las apariencias pueden engañar. Alyson sabe como pasarlo bien, y es bastanta una temeraria. No hay demasiadas aventuras que la asusten. Por ejemplo, ella ha tratado de convencer a San Geraldo de que nadar con tiburones es seguro y maravilloso (aunque ella tiene una crisis nerviosa si ve una araña).
Cuando llegamos la noche del miércoles a la Feria Internacional de los Pueblos de Fuengirola, Alyson se sintió atraída por cualquier atracción que fuera rápido y al revés. San Geraldo y yo dijimos que tendríamos los bolsos. Vi un muro cerca, me levanté (incluso CON mi ciática) como el acróbata entrenado que soy, y me puse cómodo. San Geraldo decidió hacer lo mismo, pero no con el mismo resultado. (Tiene un poco más de peso.) Finalmente señalé algunas escaleras que conducían al estacionamiento y le sugerí que las usara y luego BAJARA hacia la pared. Incluso eso no fue tan fácil de lograr. Y, cuando el paseo terminó y Nick y Alyson se encontraron de nuevo con nosotros, San Geraldo saltó a los brazos extendidos de Alyson. Te dije que ella es una temeraria.

Wouldn’t catch me on any of those rides. As a kid the Merry-Go-Round used to make me sick!! (I heard that!! lol)

I like some rides, but nothing that takes me upside down or backwards. At Disneyland, it was Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and more.
I would LOVE that ride.
Carlos?Not so much. nearly twenty years in and I have never gotten him on any ride that races and spins and flips and falls.

I will NOT and never would go on any ride that takes me upside down or backwards. Space Mountain at Disneyland was the biggest roller coaster I’ve ever gone on. I liked it but don’t know if I’d do it again.
Wow! At least SG and Alyson didn’t try the spread eagle (I know the song) ! I used to love those kind of rides (not the spread eagle) when I was younger and thinner. Now, I’m not sure the seat belts, bars, whatevers, can hold me in. They’re also not good for a bad back. I love these pix of SG! He has my fashion sense. Such agility and grace, not to mention determination 🙂

The spread eagle would upset SG more than it would upset me! It’s funny how most people here wouldn’t think twice about that color shirt on a man, but Americans tend to always make note of it. Anyway, Jerry can pull it off. I look ridiculous.
It was like pulling teeth to get Balder Half into bright colors. I mean, how many shades of beige are there?! His skin tone rocks the bright jeweled shades. As for SG, he is beautiful (yeah, that crush hasn’t died a bit) and this photo pastiche (I hope I’m using that word right) would’ve been epic in video form 🙂

I do videos when they’re of no use and don’t do them when they would be. I have a 3 minute and 41 second video of Nick and Alyson’s entire ride … when you can’t see either one of them. One of these days I’ll get it right. SG IS beautiful. He’s never been afraid of colors. I used to wear black and gray almost exclusively. I’ve branched out, but I do NOT rock those colors like he does.
I love San Geraldo! I think the last photo of him on the wall really captured his ability to laugh at himself. He is such a good sport! He’s really rockin’ the shirt!

That was the same night we met Amir. We had a blast. Can’t wait for their next visit. (I stopped and saw Amir yesterday; he loved the blog post and is I think looking forward to being in another one.)

Yeah, Jerry is the best sport and he CAN rock that shirt. Those colors on men are common here, but as I just mentioned in my reply to Deedles, Americans tend to comment on them when Jerry wears them.
My husband wore a lot of pink shirts, he loved them. He ALWAYS got a lot of comments on his color choice.

My skin tones don’t look good with those colors. But, I once bought a celery green dress shirt to go with a suit and great tie I found. THAT shocked me. A perfect color on me and just about everyone commented on it. I’ve never again been able to find a shirt of that same color that I’ve liked.
Ufda! I would have the same problem with the wall. Since coming down with Mal du Debarquement Syndrome there is no way I would get on one of those rides.

Ufda is right! I had never heard of Mal du Debarquement Syndrome before. Just looked it up. That has got to be awful!
It is. Since it isn’t life-threatening there isn’t any push to solve it. It is like living life on a suspension bridge and never being able to get off. At least there is an on-line support group for it so people can find out they are not alone.

It’s amazing the things we learn about through blogging. I’ve had a few inner ear moments, simply moments. And I thought THAT was bad. I can’t imagine living with it all the time. May a cure be found or a treatment… soon!
Darn, I thought you were going to say you and San Geraldo rode the zipper or some such ride. My days of scary carnival rides are way over, never even liked them much as a young person

Well, I think I was wearing a button fly that night (so no Zipper). I like some rides. Haven’t found any at the fairs here that I would ride. They’re either much too tame or way too wild for my tastes.

Alyson (and Nick) ARE marvelous. Nick simply introduced himself one morning at a local cafe after hearing us talk. We fell in love immediately and consider them really special friends now. They’re here often and we get together every time. We’ve even gotten to know their son and Nick’s mother, and their best friends. And we’ve loved them all. So grateful.
Argggh! I’ve only just seen this blog! Not sure how I missed it…Doh.
There’s not much that my wife won’t try,I on the other hand am getting more cautious as I near the big 5 zero.
That was a great night(as they all are)…6 packs, airbags,pizza and a dose of vertigo.

The shirt looks hotter under the lights of the fair. But it’s very common to see men in colors like that here. So we don’t even think about it… unless I wear one. Then it looks like crap.
