Another Brilliant Idea? / ¿Otra Idea Brillante?

La versión español está después de la versión inglés.

OK, I’M GOING to tell you what I really think of our new so-called fountain across the street (click here).

It’s not a fountain! It’s a wading pool!

It seems obvious (to me at least) that no one at City Hall gave significant thought to what would happen after they installed a wading pool that is not supposed to be a wading pool alongside the beach.

People wade in it!

Children of all ages play in it!

Children of all ages wash their feet in it!

It’s already filled with sand, it’s going to be impossible to keep clean, and it’s going to be a health and safety hazard. Oh, and I already saw someone try to pull off one of the flags!

These must be the same people that decided painting the natural boulders near the Port of Fuengirola to “look like a giant mosaic” (click here) was a great idea.

AND, YES, I DO REALIZE THAT my over-reaction to this little bit of idiocy is a way of avoiding what really matters in this world of ours. Like corrupt governments; dishonest politicians; human rights abuses; climate change; environmental time bombs; racism; hatred; homophobia; misogyny; terrorism; xenophobia; religious fundamentalism; Brexit; a dishonest, ignorant, narcissistic, giant Cheeto in Washington, D.C.; and, worse than the giant Cheeto, his supporters. There, I’ve said it. So, now I’m going across the street to wash my feet.

.

Ahí lo he dicho. Entonces, ahora voy a cruzar la calle para lavarme los pies.

The foot bath.
El baño de pies.
And about those mobility scooters the teenagers and their mother were racing around the pedestrians. Oh, don’t get me started.
Y sobre esos scooters de movilidad, los adolescentes y su madre corrían alrededor de los peatones. Oh, no me hagas empezar.

  1. It looks like a nice place to soak your feet, maybe the cheeto supporters could all soak their heads?

  2. I’m not going to go into the ridiculousness of that ugly fountain/wading pool. Build a wall! Anyhoo, I love Randy Rainbow. Nothing beats his snark. I sometimes don’t know what song he’s parodying (like now) but I love his brilliance!

    1. Deedles,
I don’t like the “globe” but that was just my opinion, I supposed. But the fact that there is no fountain and yet they call it one does bug me and I knew what was to come. It’s already an eyesore. The song this time is Sucker by the Jonas Brothers. I also sometimes don’t immediately know the original.

      1. The Jonas Brothers, huh? That explains why I’ve never heard of the song.
Whatever became of little boys urinating water from their little sculpture pee pees fountains? That’s class!

      2. Deedles:
I recognized the tune and remembered some of the original lyrics, but had no idea who did the original song until I looked it up. Ah, Mannequin Pis. I saw him in Brussels in the ’70s. My father had an entire postcard from during WWII of the little guy dressed up throughout the year. Yes, that IS classy. Also the pool is high enough and it’s blocked by a wrought iron fence, so no idiots can comingle their pee with his.

    1. Anne Marie,
I’ll have to share something good about the town soon. Some people do get it right. I wonder what will come of THIS bad idea.

    1. Urspo,
It gets worse! I saw a woman washing a child’s bathing suit in it. And I’m sure some drunk will pee in it if they haven’t already. Ooh, let’s soak in the wading pool. Here kids, go play. I wasn’t trained but even I know a health hazard when I see one.

  3. You are just jealous because they did not put your picture up amongst the flag with the caption Available world wide in all fine stores. LOL!!! Hey its for the tourists and ex-pats.

    1. Larrymuffin,
I don’t care how fine the store, I am only available by special request… and at a price.

  4. I know just what you mean about the state of the world. I’m so tired of Cheeto and his supporters. So. Tired. Every day is a new outrage–like him retweeting a conspiracy theory that the Clintons had Epstein murdered! This is the POTUS, for fucks sake. 🙁 We’re in a bad place in this country, a real bad place. I may not blog about it but it’s a real source of stress in my life.

As for the fountain….ewwwwhhh!! Gross! People and their nasty feet-no thanks!

    1. Jennifer,
I sometimes go a day without looking at the news. It’s not easy, but sometimes the ugliness is simply overwhelming. And oh that frickin’ thing across the street.

  5. I would have thought that the flags would be arranged kind of geographically. Oh well, there is no place for logic in art. And, as I often say, it’s a global world. Live long, and prosper.

    1. Walt the Fourth,
I had the same expectation the first time I saw it. I wonder what flags they missed and if there’s going to be an uproar… or what flags they included for that matter that will cause another uproar. Anyway, from what I’ve seen, flags will be taken as souvenirs… or in protest. I also wonder how strong the column is. I saw a guy try to climb on yesterday!

  6. I hear you Loud & Clear Mitch! This is just a small, minute example of humans dealing with inane choices in life which affect the community. At first I thought the water picture was a choice of blues and beiges underwater. I guess what I am saying is find the the cup 1/2 full and run forward with it.

    1. Ron,
But is the cup half full with water or with sand? And if it’s half full with water is the water virus-free? What about the sand? Sending love to you both and to your families! For you guys, my cup runneth over!
