Finally, Some Canookie / Finalmente, Algun Canookie

IT’S BEEN A long, exhausting, entertaining, love-filled, delicious 9 days in New York. I had three days on my own with friends and family, and all the rest of my time has been spent with The Kid Brother with whom I laughed (a lot), talked (a lot), walked (and walked and walked), dined, museumed, and shopped. And since he found a way to spend every bit of my money, it’s time for me to go home. So, Friday it’s back to Spain, the cats, and San Geraldo.

One of my very important goals while I was staying in Brooklyn Heights was to enjoy at least one canookie at Mia’s Bakery a few blocks away. A conookie comprises cannoli cream filling sandwiched between two chocolate chip cookies. It’s magnificent — if you like cannoli and chocolate chip cookies. I stopped at Mia’s Bakery several times to discover they were all out of canookies, but today I was in luck. Even The Kid Brother beamed when we were given the good news, although he had carrot cake. He hasn’t had chocolate (except white chocolate, which apparently doesn’t count) since he was 12 when The Dowager Duchess told him chocolate was bad for his skin.

SAN GERALDO AND I HAVE connected on FaceTime at least once a day. This morning a call came in from him, which I quickly answered on my iPad. His big handsome face filled the screen. “I’m on the pot!” he boomed.

I whispered back, “I’m in the hotel lobby having breakfast.”

Oh, how I miss him.

.

Waiting, at 10:25, in the hotel lobby for The Kid Brother who was supposed to be here at 10.

  1. So question, did you have an alternate treat on the days they were out? I would have gone for both the cake and cookie – both look amazing.

    1. Cheapchick:
Well, one day I had Key Lime pie. The other times, I simply walked in, asked, and left — which is not to say I didn’t have something somewhere else!

  2. You have a very nice profile! I am ignoring all of the yummy, carb filled, sugary treats. My name (well nickname) is Deedles and I’m a sugarholic. It’s been thirty days since my last sweet. I’m going out of my cotton pickin’ mind! Ooooh, carrot cake. Carrots are veggies, right? Of course, sugar filled unallowed veggies. You have a safe trip home to SG, the cats and Spain. I fixed the order for you 🙂

    1. Deedles:
Chocolate is also a veggie! I always finish my list with SG… I save the best for last.

  3. GIMME THOSE DESSERTS and no one gets hurt! have a good trip back to your loves. we will have to connect the next time you are over here.

    1. anne marie:
That would be so much fun! This visit was non-stop! And I’d share all the desserts with you!

  4. “I’m on the pot!”
That’s so Carlos, too! I bet you’re more than ready to get home, and SG,and Dudo and Moose, are waiting eagerly for your return!

  5. Oh, those canookies and carrot cake! I want them both! Now that I’m home again from my much-less exciting trip, I must come back to your blog and get caught up on all your posts about your Nordic cruise and visit to NYC!

    1. Debra:
Chuck inhaled the carrot cake. And, yes, oh those canookies! I have lots more from both trips that I haven’t yet shared.

    1. Kirk:
That’s one word for it. I was thinking, ‘Should I be concerned? Is he not going to show up? Is he on his way? Did he have a bad morning?’
