Hummus, Not Homos / Humus, No Homos

La versión español está después de la versión inglés.

THANKS TO SOME friends, we’ve been introduced to an exceptional Lebanese restaurant in Fuengirola. The menu was translated into multiple languages for their international clientele. On the English version of the menu, “hummus” was mistakenly translated to “homos,” which I of course found very entertaining. It was, after all, a Lebanese restaurant, but NOT (sadly) a lesbian one.

It reminded me, appropriately, of a 1986 episode of the American sit-com “Golden Girls.” Check out the video at the bottom.

Meanwhile, the food, atmosphere, and service at MezzaNote were perfect. And of course the company could not be beat. Oh, of course I had my “homos” with meat.

.

SG’s: I can’t remember what it was called. (With sesame cream and almonds.)
Mi falafel: Croquetas de garbanzos con salsa tahina.
My falafel: Garbanzo croquettes with tahine.
Mi Homos (Humus) y Carne: Crema de garbanzos con carne picada y piñones.
My Homos (Hummus) and Meat: Cream of chickpeas with minced meat and pine nuts.
Mi postre. / My dessert.

Uf! 6C. That’s not easy. We have actually had a few mornings that cold since our move to Spain. But just a few.

  1. There’s still leaves on those trees for heaven’s sake!! Don’t get me started!! lol
I grew up on Lebanese food as my best friend was Lebanese and only lived a few doors up the street. His father would always try different things on me……SO exotic!
I guess you will be adding this one to your eatery list.
    LOVED the Golden Girls……who didn’t?

    1. Jim:
I’m so sorry, but you know SOME trees do and have lost their leaves. It’s horrifying.

    1. We are having 2 homos (me and hubby Leon), 3 lesbians (neighbors) and 1 mother (Leon’s) for Thanksgiving dinner, but absolutely no hummus: Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, and finocchi gratinati (fennel with béchamel), apple pie and ricotta-butternut cheese cake.

      1. Frank:
That sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope you had a love-filled, belly filled, day! You DO know, I assume what finocchio means in Italy…

    2. David:
Not a chance. I’ve got at least a couple dozen scarves and SG has already pulled out the long underwear.

    1. Deedles:
PLEASE do not go back into hiding. You’re forgiven … for your questionable taste in food. I enjoyed Golden Girls sometimes, but wasn’t fanatic like so many were and are.

  2. It’s a lovely looking restaurant and the food looks exceptionally delicious! Love that GG episode!

  3. spouse and I just returned from a japanese restaurant lunch. cause nothing says “thanksgiving” like sushi!

    1. anne marie:
Yeah, I remember one year when I was in junior high, my parents took us out for Chinese food on Thanksgiving. Because it was a long time ago and back then, nothing said Thanksgiving like egg foo young.

  4. Heading over to Daughters for vegan/vegetarian and special food for one who can eat very little of any foods.
Plus Daughter is a fabulous chef and everything will be wonderful.
    Plus I don’t have to cook !
    parsnip

    1. Parsnip:
I hope it was a wonderful meal in perfect company. We’re going to a 4-year-old’s birthday party this evening. I NEVER have to cook.

  5. Ah muffin… 14c … how can you stand that cold. I won’t mention the -5c and 90km/h winds we’re getting right now with freezing rain.

    1. Willym:
I thought you said you weren’t going to mention it. It’s supposed to go DOWN to 12C tonight. Imagine!

  6. Whatever the sexual orientation, the food looks good. And a very funny Golden Girl’s clip. You know, I recall Phil Donahue’s old talk show as being very LGBTQ-friendly. Perhaps because of the family he married into?

    1. Kirk:
The food was really good! Phil Donahue could sometimes get on my nerves, but he was always enlightened, I think.
