To Sleep Alone / Dormir Solo

NOT ONLY DOESN’T Moose (the cat) like to sleep alone, he doesn’t even like to BE alone. When we’re not home, he probably drives his brother, Dudo, crazy (we hear it often enough when we ARE home and have stopped paying attention to him). Dudo is a bit more independent.

If we’re in the living room, Moose is in the living room. Kitchen or dining room, same thing. If I’m on the terrace taking pictures, Moose is right by my side. When we’re in our separate offices on opposite sides of the apartment, he’s back and forth until he wears himself out. When he finally settles down, it’s halfway between so he can monitor us both. And he always greets us at the door when we return home.

At night he drives us crazy until we get in bed. And then he’s in heaven. He’ll spend most of the night crushed against San Geraldo. If SG moves, so does Moose. On rare occasions he’ll settle next to me, but I move too much. San Geraldo will lie awake for hours to avoid disturbing Moose.

I just sat on the kitchen floor next to Moose and petted him while he ate. He commands me and, yes, I’m trained. He’s now finally in bed for a siesta with San Geraldo — after checking with me twice to see if I would join them.

San Geraldo is tucked under the white comforter alongside Moose; those photos were all taken with flash in the dead of night. And that’s me almost out of the pink Calvin Klein briefs; they came in a multi-pack, so I wear them. But not usually on days when anyone but San Geraldo might see me in them.

Yep, Moose is Jerry’s best pal and Dudo, the slender one, is my best pal. Hmmm.

    1. Deedles:
So do we. I was just telling Dudo that a few minutes ago… which caused Moose to come running in to see what he was missing.

  1. Moose must be the extrovert of the pair, and Dudo the more reserved introvert. But they’re both adorable!

    1. Debra:
It’s strange. They’re both shy and skittish with strangers. In terms of introvert/extrovert, they’re very inconsistent. And they ARE both adorable.

  2. That is Buddy’s MO exactly. Follows me everywhere. Needs both of us. Always at the door when we are home. I fine line between needy and companion (that goes for my hubby too ha ha)

    1. My cat (now dearly departed) used to roll around on the ground whenever I came home. I was flattered. I’ve found cats to be every bit as affectionate as dogs. And they may be more loyal. A dog will act excited to see a stranger. A cat has to KNOW you.

      1. Kirk:
You’ve got the cats right. They don’t say hello to just anyone and then they’re very selective once you’ve met.

    1. Jim:
He grows more and more affectionate and attentive. It’s so heartwarming. I often wish he would be a lap cat, but I then realize he would never LEAVE our laps!

  3. moose is totes adorbs! the pink danties need flowers on them, or dancing bears, or the word “saturday”. nyla will go into the bathroom with us, gigi and oreo keep their distance.

    1. anne marie:
Dudo might stop by; sometimes he brings a toy for me to throw! But Moose will never leave us alone in the bathroom. Neither cat likes a closed door.

    1. Susan:
Yeah, that’s me! I would never even wear pink shirts in the past. Now I share my underwear with anyone who’s interested (or not)… well… you know what I mean.

  4. I think you said you adopted the Kitties ? I find with Agatha she does follow me around and wants to know where I am. She sleeps on the bed with me but not next to me. Waits at the door and if I take to long she boofs for me to hurry up, even scratches at the door.
I was the one who got her out of the crate first and sat with her till I was Ok’ed to adopt her. She was living with a hoarder and had had puppies (I wish I could have seen her puppies.) and there were lots of dogs. Another person wanted her I offered her to them as they met her first but she was sitting next to me on my foot so they picked another. sweet gud dug. I wish I knew who they were so I could send them a thank you note
Anyways…. some cats or dogs need that extra ! she is always looking for me, enjoys playing by herself with her toys but likes me in the same room. She is a love.

    1. Parsnip:
They were 10 months old when we finally saved them from shelter life, where they had been together from birth. But they had already developed very different personalities. And Moose has grown more affectionate and attentive (obsessive) with each passing year (they turned 8 in July).

    1. David:
And he’s always successful… Of course, I never said “Nobody gets between me and my Calvins.”
