Lockdown Day 37: Smart Sunrise / Encierro Día 37: Amanecer Fuerte

La versión español está después de la versión inglés.

I’M SO TIRED. FOR SOME reason, I didn’t get much sleep last night. I have no idea why. But, as a result, I’m not feeling very clever today. I don’t know for certain that I’m ever truly clever, but on many days I do at least feel clever. Not today.

Yesterday started out cloudy and turned out to be sunny much of the time. I took the elevator to 11 (we live on 3) and walked down the stairs with recycling (which I then took across the street). Twice. I then walked back up to 3, took the elevator to 11, and walked back down to 3. I didn’t miss a step. I did, however, come close to missing a step once because I was busy looking at the view. So I decided to instead mind my feet and look at the view when I firmly reached each landing. (So, I was clever yesterday.)

Because I didn’t sleep much, I was up and out on the terrace this morning to watch the sunrise. I folded back a panel of the glass curtain and captured some reflections, as well. So here they are. Be sure to click the images.

It’s currently sunny and warm. It’s supposed to cloud up and then rain again this evening. So, I’ll appreciate the sunshine while we have it. When I go out today, I plan to walk up to 11 and back down, which is what I was regularly doing before the ankle incident. I hope to be back tomorrow with more juvenile talk of body parts, cooking lessons, or maybe even some flashy fashion photos. Meanwhile, enjoy the view.

.

ESTOY TAN CANSADO. Hoy no.

  1. it’s a cloudy day today; supposed to be 59F. we don’t get to see the sunrise like you do. and watch it on those stairs, mister!

    1. anne marie x:
I’m being very careful. I try to remind myself to not do anything other than step and watch where I’m going. So far, so good… mostly. Cloudy and rainy here again today. I think we’ve had 4 clear days in the past 38. Unheard of on the supposed “Suncoast”!

  2. And enjoying that view I am!
Must be strange that your neighbourhood is so quiet and devoid of people all day long.
Good idea to ‘walk the steps’……carefully.

    1. Jim:
It is VERY strange for it to be so quiet. Summer is going to be completely alien here. I think we’re supposed to be closed to tourism until fall.

  3. What a wonderful view, the tree in front of my bedroom window is on the last to sprout leaves, my view is changing day by day. Enjoy the walk.

    1. David:
My walk and climb was great yesterday. Today, I might even go to the pharmacy. SO excited.

  4. These pix are awesome, Scoot! Please, please be careful on those stairs! I think maybe your subconscious (omg, I finally spelled that right!) has been over saturated with thoughts of balls, weenies and boobs and it made you restless. Being Dr. Deedles Quack Extraordinaire, I could be wrong. You were very clever for too many days in a row. Give yourself a break, and a “nap”.

    1. Deedles:
Thank you for telling me I can take a break from being clever! I DID have a decent nap yesterday. Didn’t have a great night’s sleep again, so ended up sleeping in until nearly 10, which bugs the hell out of Moose for some reason. He sits at the door or at the foot of the bed and yowls at me. Nice.

  5. Looks like a tropical island. I do miss being near (within 50 miles) of an ocean. Lack of sleep: I’ve been a member of that club for years.

    1. Frank:
Yep, my good night’s sleep are rare and memorable. Retirement sure eases the pain. I was never happy living too far from the beach. But this is the best situation right now. To be able to see and hear the surf while we’re inside is so soothing. My favorite sound.

  6. Thanks for getting up early to take those photos for us.

    Seriously, Mitchell, more stairs??????

    1. Bob:
I did it! Didn’t fall and only forgot to look once, but quickly recovered. I’m so clever.

  7. The sunset was worth it alone!!!! No need to be clever. While blogging helps make the pandemic bearable… Sometimes just a picture post can be sufficient

    1. Mistress Maddie:
Thanks. The sunrises and sunsets have been stunning. This morning’s sunrise was beautiful clouds, but not much on color. But I was up anyway. There will be some posts that are much more simple and photographic. I’m just trying to offer a pleasant distraction and to make the days a bit brighter for those stuck inside and well enough to visit my blog, which is what you always do. Thanks for that.

      1. Scoot, sweetie, you always make the days brighter no matter what you post.

  8. I’m glad you got to enjoy the sunrise, and I’m glad you managed to do it without putting yourself in peril! It’s funny how we now make exercise out of routine chores, isn’t it? I lugged a load of cardboard to the recycling bin down the hill today and I was glad to do it.

    1. Steve:
I had been doing lift repetitions with a heavy bag of trash in each arm when I went up and down stairs. But now I keep one hand hovering above the railing… just in case. I do squats when I clean and do laundry! Whatever it takes.

    1. Cheapchick:
I hope to share a lot more pretty… and not always of the same views!

  9. Your double sunrise photos are very clever and stunning. Our recent sunrises have been a red ball rising out of a flat sea. There is a lot of smoke in the air from farmers burning their fields in Honduras. It would be beautiful if I didn’t know it was caused by smoke.

Before I retired, my office was on the 13th floor and I used to walk up and down those 13 flights multiple times a day. It was good exercise. You will use the handrails on your jaunts and wash your hands afterwards, won’t you?

    1. Wilma:
I tried to do reflective sunrise photos last week, but the window was too dirty. So I cleaned it for these! Such a shame about the smoke from the farms. With so little traffic and activity, and with the chiringuitos closed (where they always have wood fires burning outside), our air is cleaner than it’s ever been. I walk the stairs with one hand hovering inches above the handrail at all times. And oh do I wash my hands. Fortunately, there are no known cases of covid-19 in our entire city (of, during lockdown, about 50,000 people).

    1. Snoskred:
I agree with you. I plan to do more using the reflection with the next colorful sunrise.
