I MENTIONED YESTERDAY THAT OUR nearest flower seller had reopened his kiosk this week. I went back yesterday hoping to surprise San Geraldo (our designated gardener) with one or more vibrant hibiscus plants, but I got there around noon (he opens at 9) and they were sold out.
This morning, I slept in (because I didn’t sleep much during the night). I woke up after 9:30, threw on some clothes, splashed some water on my face, and ran out the door. I made it in time to claim a beauty for San Geraldo; I’ll check back for more tomorrow.
Hibiscus is, unfortunately, toxic to cats. But our boys are, thankfully, very specific about which plants they nibble (and they don’t nibble much). We had a collection of hibiscus for a long time on the terrace and, after an initial sniff, the cats ignored them. We’ll keep a close watch. We’d love to have all that vibrant color on the terrace again.

AYER MENCIONÉ QUE NUESTRO FLORISTERIA más cercano había reabierto su quiosco esta semana. Regresé el miércoles con la esperanza de sorprender a San Geraldo (nuestro jardinero designado) con una o más plantas de hibisco vibrantes, pero llegué alrededor del mediodía (abre a las 9) y se agotaron.

Whenever I see this plant I always go back to a visit to Bermuda……..they have hedges upon hedges of Hibiscus all blooming at once.

They’re used for hedges here in Fuengirola, too. Even the city plants them in hedgerows along our shopping streets and on the Paseo.

I love hibiscus! I didn’t know they were toxic to cats. Good thing your boys are so smart!

I didn’t know it about hibiscus either, but SG did. And, yes, very good thing our cats seem to know what NOT to nibble.
That hibiscus is a gorgeous color! And look at all those flower buds just waiting to open! Very pretty, Mitchell.

He only has a few at a time. So, I’ll just have to keep checking back. He had a pink (yesterday and today) that’s very dull. I’m hoping for yellow. It would be great to get back to our big garden center, too. Always a huge selection there.

That is one beautiful hibiscus, Mitchell! And with more to come. I bet you made SG pretty happy with that purchase.

We would love to fill the terrace with color again. Cacti and succulents are doing great but we miss the vibrance. SG was happy with his new gift today, too.
What a beautiful hibiscus! I love that second photo especially, with the two tails poking out. I didn’t realize hibiscus were poisonous to cats!

I just read about the toxicity of hibiscus. It turns out SG knew all along and was relieved when the cats showed no interest when we had them before.

Our little flower kiosk has a limited supply without much variation. So, once I buy what I like from him, we’ll have to wait for our big garden center to reopen.
