Lockdown Day 83: Pizza & Adult Beverages / Encierro Día 83: Pizza & Bebidas Para Adultos

La versión español está después de la versión inglés.

ONE OF THESE DAYS, WE’LL able to again share hugs with our friends. For now, air hugs, air kisses (usually through masks), and waves will have to do.

Thursday night, we finally returned to Restaurante Primavera. We received the warmest welcome possible (under current restrictions) from the staff and owners (friends we’ve only communicated with via text since mid-March). And I had my first alcoholic beverages in nearly three months.

Before (and with) dinner I enjoyed a glass of ribera. Primavera has exceptional organic wines, and Miguel always chooses the best for me (which he makes me taste before he pours). We moved on to our pizzas. I had mine with prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, and fresh basil leaves; San Geraldo had roasted Iberian pork, buffalo mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and a mixture of young sprouts.

I finished with a chupito (shot) of Bailey’s Irish Cream. Normally, SG gets one, too, takes a sip, and then passes the rest to me. But after all this time, one glass of wine and one shot of Bailey’s was more than enough for me. What a lightweight.

SG couldn’t finish his pizza, so I had those three slices for breakfast (sorry, Miguel, cold from the fridge — click here) alongside my overnight oats and fruit.

.

Miguel’s smile (and another ribera), weeks before lockdown.
La sonrisa de Miguel (y otra ribera), unas semanas antes del encierro.

Their pizzas and entire menu are exceptional. And we felt so loved. Tonight Mesón Salvador!

  1. Nice to see the place is empty. And glad you got out. And three months for a drink??!?!?!!?!?!

I think it will be same time till I feel comfortable going back out. People and place don’t know control and strength and guidelines like you guys. If your eartery were here…..it wouldn’t be that empty.

    1. Mistress Maddie:
The terrace filled up (as much as is currently permitted… with plenty of space between tables). We were alone inside most of the time. People like the fresh air, but we find it destroyed by the smokers, so we usually head inside. Going to Mesón Salvador tonight. So I’ll have a another drink … or two!

  2. ummmmmmmmmmm, bailey’s…happy to see another of your fave places back in business!

    1. anne marie:
I love Bailey’s but Mesón Salvador has something called Pionono which comes only from a village outside Córdoba, can’t be purchased in shops, and is even better than Bailey’s! We’ll be THERE tonight (and I’m having SG’s Pionono, too)!

  3. Back to the food porn!! Me like!

One of my first days back at work, one of my favorite co-workers walked in the door and when we saw each other, from well over ten feet away, we both spread our arms for a virtual hug.
It’ll have to be that way for a while

    1. Bob:
I DO miss those hugs. Out tonight with friends. Will sit across the tables and send air hugs and air kisses to each other. (And more food porn to come!)

    1. Wilma:
SG felt the same way about a meal not cooked by him. In my case, a meal cooked by me is a frightening idea. Their pizzas are the absolute best. All fresh, organic products. Even their pizza dough. I love pizza. The dough always gives me heartburn. But not these!

  5. I can well imagine they were overjoyed to see you two again! And yes please, I’ll have a shot of Bailey’s any time, any place!

    1. Debra:
Ooh, tonight will be Pionono. If you like Bailey’s, you’d LOVE Pionono. And, yes, they made us feel SO loved.

  6. So glad you got to see your friends and enjoy the restaurant. 3 months without a drink….that is going to be me and not by choice. My case of wine is just sitting there all lonely. Hubby has been on the wagon too as was too afraid he was consuming too much because of the pandemic and wanted to get into better shape so his case of red wine is just sitting there. Here’s hoping by my Birthday (August) I can indulge again.

    1. Cheapchick:
Oh, I so hope you can indulge well before your birthday. What a long road this has been!

    1. Willym:
This Iberian pork loin is really nothing like bacon. I don’t even know what to compare it to. It’s got a meatier, nuttier flavor than bacon. Normally much less salty. I’ll see if I can come up with a better description.

    1. Walt the Fourth:
I had never had ribera until Sevilla. I immediately loved it. But Primavera has the best I’ve tried. And, yes, you would really appreciate these pizzas. Perfection.

  7. There’s a lot of people who look better with a mask – and one I could name [but shan’t] who needs to wear one permanently but won’t. Miguel most definitely isn’t one of them. It’s like a cloud obscuring the sun.

    1. Raybeard:
Oh, I can’t wait to tell Miguel what you said. So poetic. He’ll love it. And you’re right. He is one of those people who makes me feel good and hopeful about the world — and that’s not easily done for me lately.

      1. Yes, do PLEASE tell him. i hope that behind his blushes he looks just like his photo – the one w/o mask, naturally.

      2. Raybeard:
Truth is, Miguel in-person is even better than his photos. I’ve never done a good job capturing him. Will I’m sure see him again this week. And he and I really need to start meeting again for coffee and conversation… so we can both improve our skills in each other’s languages.

    1. Urspo:
But who knows where or when… Living in such a loving and physical culture, it’s especially difficult here to not touch each other when we meet.
