Salad cake / Tarta ensalada

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

SAN GERALDO FINALLY BAKED THE promised chocolate cake. It, of course, is indescribably delicious. He tried to tell me there was nothing healthy about it, but I had already prepared my scientific defense.

Chocolate comes from a tree called the Theobroma cacao. The Theobroma cacao is a fruit tree. Cacao (cocoa) beans are the seeds of the fruit of the Theobroma cacao tree. By my reasoning, chocolate is therefore fruit (remember I’m the guy who thought he could jump off that wall and land on his feet the other day). That makes San Geraldo’s chocolate cake a salad of sorts.

San Geraldo added eggs. So, it might even be considered a high-protein snack. My body feels a bit better today, less achy, more flexible. And, except for a slightly swollen ring finger, my hand is looking a lot better. I’m sure it’s the chocolate salad cake with added protein.

.

Just a little butter.
Un poquito de mantequilla.
Chilling beside oyster sauce and above a whole chicken.
Enfriar junto a la salsa de ostras y encima de un pollo entero.
Just as the cake went into the refrigerator last night. They had no idea what they were missing.
Justo cuando el pastel entró en el refrigerador anoche. No tenían ni idea de lo que se estaban perdiendo.

  1. Makes sense to me! And I didn’t jump off any wall! (well I did back in my youth but that is another story)
    The CAKE looks perfect! YUM.
On the mend I see. Good.

    1. Jim:
Doing so much better these last couple of days. I’m sure it was the cake.

    1. Carole:
I have never had a better chocolate cake. Can’t even enjoy one out anymore.

    1. David:
Yes. If you can maintain your health while eating half this cake, you’re in great shape.

  2. chocolate IS healthy; it has hormones we women need. I wish I could lick the bowls and grab a slice of cake. nasty hand bruise there, dear; glad nothing was broken.

    1. anne marie:
Oh, it significantly helps when i’m struggling with depression. And if I get carried away with the “treatment,” I’m then distracted from the depression by the heartburn!

I have never had better. And SG varies it all the time. Strawberries, Apricots, Jam and chocolate filling.

    1. Bob:
Yes, I could. And I did at times in my career. I’m not proud and I’ve atoned.

    1. Rozzie:
SG’s salads are the best I’ve ever had. Hand is doing well. Finger still swollen, but bends and works. Palm still bruised, but improving. Back to long, brisk walks, stretching, and exercise!

  3. This is the kind of salad I could eat everyday! Plus, it has the extra added advantage of going great with milk or coffee.

    1. Deedles:
I am so glad there’s only one slice waiting for me after lunch today. I am about to OD. But I am in such great shape! This salad cake diet clearly works.

    1. Mistress Maddie:
It would be gone by now, except that SG only had one slice and has left the rest to me. I’ve been behaving myself. Only one slice a day (huge unlike the first day). Normally, we would both have had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you like to bake, try this recipe. I don’t know if it requires SG’s fingers, but I’ve never had better.

    1. Wilma:
I never had to chew my way through frosting until I met SG. I’m not complaining.

  4. Good to see San Geraldo trowels on that delicious-looking icing with a free hand too!

  5. Wow! That cake! Magnificent. Kudos to San Geraldo. You could also claim it as a breakfast dish considering most of the contents–eggs, butter, flour…:)

Glad the hand is healing…though it still looks sore.

    1. Mary:
SG actually asked me yesterday if I wanted chocolate cake for lunch. I told him I thought it might be a good idea to have something BEFORE the chocolate cake. (I knew that’s what he meant.) To be extra health, I had lunch and then chocolate cake and slices of apple for dessert.

  6. SG certainly has a talent for making cakes. It’s gorgeous, and I’m sure it was delicious. And healthy, too!

    1. Walt the Fourth:
He tries something different every time. I loved the pattern in the frosting this time. A genius.

    1. Steve:
I have a bridge in Brooklyn I could give to you for a song. But, wait. Florida! Interested in some prime swamp land?

  7. Bill Cosby – if I may mention the name – had an old routine of chocolate cake as the perfect breakfast food. It looks fabulous. I’ve never made a chocolate cake, and obviously I should try my hand at it. SG has much better hand with frosting than I have…

    1. wickedhamster:
SG’s huge hands can do some amazingly intricate and artistic work when he cooks and bakes.

  8. Your explanation of the cacao Fruit is priceless, facts based on science, that is how to do it. I will remember this one. It is vitamins then, go and enjoy.
