Someone with style / Alguien con estilo

FIRST, FOR THOSE OF YOU interested, here again are the two recipes for San Geraldo’s chocolate cake and chocolate butter cream frosting. As you can tell by the list of ingredients, it’s fat-, sugar-, gluten-, and calorie-free, and totally organic (and I lie like a rug).

I met Kathleen, Pedro, my pal Luke, and Luke’s brother Beckett at the beach across the street from our building yesterday. Beckett has gotten used to his family time and doesn’t quite know what to make of others. He was playing happily in the sand when I arrived, took one look at me — in my mask, sunglasses, and cap — and burst out crying. He settled back down quickly, but whenever he looked my way his expression was one of suspicion.

Luke was wearing his brand new surfer wear and, of course, looked really cool. Pedro was wearing a pair of 10-year-old trunks that should never have been purchased in the first place. At one point, when Pedro walked down to the shore to demonstrate his Fuengirola fashion sense, Luke raced to catch up and began to imitate him. Pedro had no idea. But now it’s time for those trunks to go to the charity shop.

After the beach, San Geraldo (who had stayed home) packed up half of the remaining chocolate cake for them to take home. Luke was the only one to have some in the evening. He said: “This is super good, Mama. The goodest part is the brown part!”

.

Pedro no tenía idea.

The handwritten notation is for 1-1/2 recipes (if two layers aren’t enough).
Two kids, and a guy in a diaper — and a man bun. Everything Kathleen ever wished for. Well, at least it’s a hot guy in a diaper — and a man bun.

    1. Kathleen:
I forgot that they came from the thrift store in the first place! I’ve had more than enough cake. Jerry’s not helping me eat it. I should be careful what I wish for. And the best part is the brown part. P.S.: I love the shot of Luke mid-air!

  1. I suspect Pedro has a six-pack because he doesn’t eat chocolate cake. Show off.

      1. Mistress Maddie:
AND he’s over 40… not by much, but still.

    1. Debra:
Pedro actually DOES eat chocolate cake. Maybe not in the volume I do. But he works out incessantly. He earns that six-pack.

  2. That Luke isn’t outgrowing his adorable cuteness at all! That chocolate cake looks like too much work. Parchment paper, mesh sieve and double boiler are in the same kitchen twilight zone as that whisk from an earlier post, right? As for me, give me silicone pans, Duncan Hines Signature cakes, pudding and I’m set. I used to bake from scratch, now I just scratch open a box on the rare occasions when I bake.

    1. Deedles:
Luke is the sweetest kid. I can’t believe how exceptional he is — kind, thoughtful, funny. It’s been frustrating not being able to see them much and not being able to play with the kids when I do. Normally, I would have been in the sand playing with Beckett… and he’d be my pal, too! Did I ever tell about Jerry’s sister who wanted to make a vanilla cake one year but all she had in the house was a chocolate cake mix. She opened the box, threw out the package of cocoa powder and, VOILA, vanilla cake. But she couldn’t understand why it had NO flavor. SG had to explain that vanilla didn’t just mean white. Her younger son is a chef. It’s called survival.

      1. That’s hilarious! I don’t remember boxed cake coming with a package of cocoa powder.

  3. look at how big the boys are getting!
yeah, pedro needs a different swimsuit. something in red or aqua and a LOT smaller too.
    kathleen looks great; busy mama.

      1. Mistress Maddie:
Pedro would look excellent in anything … except what he’s wearing!

    1. anne marie:
I can’t believe how well they’ve done through lockdown and now, with so many limitations. Kathleen DOES look great. She actually looked relaxed! And, oh Pedro and that swimsuit. I had forgotten it wasn’t even new when he bought it. He got it at a thrift shop!

  4. Who is that ‘masked man’!? No wonder the poor child cried…..it will take time I guess. Luke will have to coach him that you are one of the ‘good guys’.
Pedro has that ‘local style’ down pat I see!! lol

    1. Jim:
As soon as Beckett’s mouth went into a pout, I ripped off the cap and glasses and lifted the mask. But I was too late. Pedro loves hamming it up for the camera. But, oh, those shorts! I’m tempted to go out and buy him something, but I don’t know if Kathleen would necessarily approve of my choices… I’m much too bougie for her at times.

  5. You could start a new line of swimwear. A pound of sugar? Sugar is made from plants, so it is a vegetable right?

    1. David:
See? You understand! Did you see that pile of butter on the kitchen scale? That was all for the frosting! We could make an entire line of swimwear from that one pair of Pedro’s shorts!

  6. That is one happy family and good looking I might add. I get good vibes from them. Don’t feel bad Mitchell about the, took one look at me — in my mask, sunglasses, and cap — and burst out crying. I hear trump gets that a lot too. But your way more handsome then that rat.

The beach makes me jumpy…too many people. but when in Ptown we only saw about 20 people so that could be why.

    1. Mistress Maddie:
They’re a great family. After this social distancing is behind us, Beckett will have to get to know me all over again. He liked me before. He has no clue who I am now. But, you’re right, at least I don’t look like he who shall not be named.

  7. I will show Carlos the cake recipe as he is the MasterBaker™ and I will keep the pictures of Pedro because I’m the …well, you get where i’m going with this.

    1. Bob:
Pedro will be honored. Carlos will not be disappointed (well, I guess neither are you).

    1. JohnGray:
I look forward to hearing how it goes. SG never has a failure with this one and says it’s easy as pie to make (yes he actually says that). His pies are apparently a piece of cake.

    1. Wilma:
Pedro DOES enjoy doing the Fuengirola Look for me when he wears that, but I think he wears it because it’s the only one has… and he really likes it! I was thrilled with that shot I got of Luke mid-air. That was an accident.

  8. Love that mid-air photo of Luke. Almost looks like he was going to give his Papa a swift kick… 🙂 A lovely family.
