Diggers, squatters, and butts / Excavadores, acuclilladores, y colillas

I ACTUALLY JOGGED THIS MORNING on the beach at sunrise. It felt so good. Not a sound from the sciatica. Today’s photos begin with two more shots of yesterday’s sunrise. The sky is filled with clouds today and, as you’ll see from the two photos at the end of the collection, this morning’s sunrise was even more colorful.

Yesterday I spotted a group of teens frantically digging on the beach. I worried that they had found another turtle’s nest, but they were much too close to shore. Apparently, they were trying to create their own little tide pool (with a sand bridge) before the tide receded too far. They were too slow and too late.

Among the early morning exercisers, I noticed a couple yesterday squatting on a wall along the paseo. They were on the beach today, still squatting.

When I was almost home this morning, I spotted a guy doing an intense workout on the grass under the palm trees. Squats were included.

AND FINALLY THE BUTTS:
Every morning the people that rent chaise lounges and umbrellas are out there setting up. One of their tasks is to clean up all the detritus (like the cigarette butts) from the day before. The city cleans the entire beach daily, but not within those private seating areas. Some people simply walk around with a hand-held net. Others use wide rakes. And still others have screens they drag behind them. I enjoy seeing the variety of patterns they create, and I hate the thought of people walking all over them and messing things up. It’s good I don’t work there.

.

I wouldn’t have left a footprint to the side as I went.
Squatting pigeon.
Paloma en cuclillas.

It’s a sanity saver for me in these times. Thanks for coming along for the walks.

  1. c. moore butts, hey everybody, c. moore butts.

the sunrise means we get to live another day.

YOU never grew up either! Greetings from Ben Dover, Russel D. Sheets, Dick Hertz, and Jean Zaroff!

    1. Jim:
It really can be glorious. And being able to be on the beach to experience it is a true gift — although watching from the terrace isn’t half bad. I love it in winter when it comes up entirely over the water.

    1. Mary:
Thanks. I knew when I took them that looking at them again was going to make me happy.

    1. mcpersonalspace54:
Will give the jogging in the sand a try a few days a week. Would be great if that could become a habit. Thanks again for coming with me!

  2. The man doing the squat under the umbrella while reaching up with one arm caught my attention. If next to him that’s his wife or girlfriend, then I envy her.

    1. Kirk:
That’s the same couple that was squatting on the wall the day before. I have no idea the relationship. Do you want me to ask for you?

    1. Deedles:
Wasn’t that cute? I loved how the pigeon flew in just as the guy finished raking. Oh, thanks for clearing a space for me!

  3. That’s a very strange pose the man and woman are in on the wall. Are they just sitting like that, or is it an exercise? Hmmm…

Good for you for jogging! That’s more energy than I can muster.

    1. Steve:
I’m guessing that squatting position is part of their routine since they were doing the same thing on the beach deck the next day — and holding different positions while they did so. It was kind of strange with them sitting on the wall the first day staring out at everyone walking by within a few feet of them.

    1. Mistress Maddie:
Masks are required everywhere, inside and out, except if you’re running, doing outdoor exercise, swimming, or stationery (sitting, lying) on the beach. So, really all those you see in the photos on this post ARE following the rules. Although I’d guess since we opened up to tourists in July, about 20 percent are NOT following the rules. I didn’t share photos of the people I saw who were not. They just piss me off. I’ve heard that people are being ticketed, but I haven’t seen one myself.

  4. Hope those very photogenic clouds bring some cooling rain to you. Did you notice that all the squatters were doing what are sometimes called “third world squats”? Meaning that they can get their butts all the way down and keep their heels on the ground? Most Americans can’t do that.

Good-on-ya for running! Bet it felt great.
It has been too hot for me to run lately, but it should cool off a bit in the next day or so.

    1. Wilma:
I never knew the term “third world squats.” Wow. I can actually do those again right now. The sciatica usually doesn’t allow it. There’s no way I could run after the sun is fully up. It’s been brutal. By the time I left the beach yesterday morning, the air was steamy. Since i slept in this morning, I missed the less than 3mm of rain. Just saw some wet spots on the pavement and the smell of rain in the air. But… wait for it… we’re expecting… possibly… another .3 mm of rain later today… over the course of three hours. Blink and you’ll miss it.
