THE EXCITEMENT OF MY DAY yesterday — other than every moment I spent with San Geraldo and the cats — was when I went downstairs in the evening to take out some trash and recycling. I arrived just in time to see the truck empty the cardboard and paper dumpster (after I added my stack). And you, lucky souls, get to see the video. Our bins are a different construction from the ones I shared in the video from July (click here), which makes it even more exciting for you.
Right after I got back upstairs Monday morning, I received a text from Kathleen that they had just arrived at the beach. So, I went back down to say a quick “hi.” I was greeted warmly by all… except Beckett. He doesn’t know quite what to make of me (even without the mask and sunglasses). If looks could kill.
I forgot to call The Kid Brother last night. I kept thinking it was Monday. It was after midnight when I remembered. And, although it’s six hours earlier there,that’s too late to call. If I catch him when he’s about to take his shower “At 6:15, ya know!” I’m in even bigger trouble than if I call a day or two late. He works today, so I have to be really careful about my timing. If I call too early, he won’t be home and if I call just as he walks in the door… Well, I’ve done that and, believe me, I don’t want to do it again. I really should take up yoga. I see a lot of seemingly serene people on the beach at sunrise.

LA EMOCIÓN DE MI DÍA ayer, aparte de cada momento que pasé con San Geraldo y los gatos, fue cuando bajé las escaleras por la noche para sacar algo de basura y reciclar. Llegué justo a tiempo para ver el camión vaciar el contenedor de cartón y papel (después de agregar mi pila). Y vosotros, almas afortunadas, podéis ver el video. Nuestros contenedores son una construcción diferente a los que compartí en el video del julio (haz clic aquí), lo que lo hace aún más emocionante para vosotros.
Inmediatamente después de subir las escaleras el lunes por la mañana, recibí un mensaje de texto de Kathleen que acababan de llegar a la playa. Entonces, volví a bajar para decir un rápido “hola”. Todos me saludaron calurosamente … excepto Beckett. No sabe muy bien qué pensar de mí (incluso sin la mascarilla y las gafas de sol). Si las miradas mataran.
Olvidé llamar a El Hermanito anoche. Seguí pensando que era lunes. Era pasada la medianoche cuando me acordé. Y, aunque son seis horas antes, es demasiado tarde para llamar. Si lo atrapo cuando está a punto de ducharse “¡A las 6:15, ya sabes!” es un problema aún mayor que si llamo uno o dos días tarde. Él trabaja hoy, así que tengo que tener mucho cuidado con mi tiempo. Si llamo demasiado temprano, no estará en casa y si llamo justo cuando entra por la puerta … Bueno, lo he hecho y, créanme, no quiero volver a hacerlo. Realmente debería empezar a practicar yoga. Veo mucha gente aparentemente serena en la playa al amanecer.

Speaking of grounding I must get to the beach some early morning for a Qi Gong session. Nothing like it.

Clearly, Beckett needs to talk with Maria to find out how charming you can be. Definitely not charmed by you at the moment, but then he is also at that age/stage when babies all of a sudden can become very wary of others outside their family, so don’t take it too personally. 🙂

Beckett’s glares are hilarious. Poor guy was stuck in lockdown at an important stage. I know he’ll come around. The photos and videos of him with his family show lots of personality and joy, and are so entertaining.

Pedro had a flash of white hair in front when we met him. It has spread. But what a head of hair! That’s Chuck in the first photo. He was 4. I had many a fat lip after he threw those metal 6-shooters at me during one of his temper tantrums. We moved to Brooklyn later that year and the guns didn’t come with us.
The video was fascinating. I’m serious.

I have to admit, I find it fascinating, too.
At least you don’t make babies scream when they look at you. Maybe your zen, is taking pictures finding their zen. You could start a YouTube channel of the trash and recycling collection methods, I know at least one person who would check everyday for updates.

Most kids like me fairly quickly. Beckett puts me in my place. If I could play with him, that would quickly change I’m sure. He has so much personality. That’s actually an interesting idea of wandering around town to get videos of all the different trash pick-ups.

I, for one, found your recycling truck video to be fascinating. We don’t have trucks using that method here. And Beckett’s little pouty face — too cute!

OK, the recycling vid was actually very interesting. I’ve never seen an in-ground bin. I don’t think we could have them here — the ground is too wet. I’ve been discombobulated about the days of the week too!

I wonder if wet ground matters. They’re completely contained in concrete and then well-sealed (usually). But I’ve never seen them anywhere but here. First sighting was in Sevilla and I thought the bins (above ground) were absurdly tiny for public use.

I regularly get in trouble with The Kid Brother whether I have my shit together or not. If he’s really annoyed I simply say ala Steve Martin, “Well, EXCUUUSE ME!” That USUALLY settles him down and makes him laugh.
I think we can all agree, we’d rather just stand around and watch Pedro. That trash trucking video was way to much excitement Mitch, I can’t tell you!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!! Funny what excites us these days in quarantine.

Even more excitement! There’s a guy who regularly retrieves broken beach chairs and umbrellas from the open beach dumpster. There aren’t enough hours in a day! Yeah, Pedro. And he’s also good at everything he tries. Cooking, drawing (brilliant portraitist with NO training), dancing, musician, athletics. If I’d didn’t like him so much, I’d hate him. Between him and Kathleen there’s nothing they can’t do… and do well. And both so good-looking, too.
Oh, that Becket. He’ll be a challenge for you! Your photos, which are always wonderful, have been especially beautiful lately. Are you doing something different?
And!!! We had some sea turtle nesting activity 2 nights ago! After nothing at all last year, we are so happy to see them again. I think the massive invasion of sargassum seaweed last year messed them up. It is not as much so far this year. Fingers crossed for continued good conditions

Not doing anything different. I finally again am using photoshop In the last couple of days, but I’m not doing much other than cropping (and sometimes sharpening) these recent days. Shooting at the right time of day makes a difference. I’ve usually been out later in the day when the sun begins to wash things out. Sunrise is the best time. But thank you! So exciting about the sea turtles. People here have been alerted to watch for trails in the morning.
I took up yoga about 10 years ago when I pulled my back. It is the best thing for helping you to become grounded. I go to a morning class every other day or so outside (because of the pandemic). it is a great way to begin the day. I will miss this when I go back to school in a few weeks.

I just got back from a yoga class. The instructor is a tiny bit of a woman, but she is as strong as an ox. I worked up a sweat!

You will be my inspiration. SG and I had a personal trainer in San Diego (we didn’t go together). She was about 5 feet tall with a 12-inch waist (more or less) and solid muscle. Incredible. I need to work up a sweat from doing more than just walking out the door.
Yoga is great. I highly recommend it.

I took some classes a long time ago. Didn’t like the instructor much or I would have continued. We’ve talking about going up here. Lots of options. It’s SO good for you.

I picked up a noon time class of Qi Gong in 2005. Jim picked up a class at another place so we would combine our efforts on the beach whenever we visited. Sophie would dig a hole at our feet trying to get us to fall into it. LOL All she wanted was our attention to throw the ball into the water. Priorities, all about priorities.
