Droning on / Droneando

I HEARD SOMETHING LAST NIGHT. To my ears, it was an awful noise. The sound of someone in pain. I ran from my office to the terrace, of course grabbing my camera as I went. Once I was outside, the sound was louder and more unpleasant (again, to my ears). Maybe my ears are simply untrained. Maybe it sounds good to someone else. Somewhere else. You’ll have to let me know what you think once (if) you watch the video at the end of this post. It actually sounds better, to me, on the recording.

I haven’t been out yet today. I’ll try my luck with a walk on a Saturday afternoon. I saw a drone flying back and forth along the coast when I was out yesterday. Then I spotted the control “tower” — lifeguards and safety personnel in a roped off area on the beach. Be sure to take note of the lifeguard’s shorts.

Some of you were wondering what those webbed feet were in the pictures of my drawers yesterday. It’s a couple of decorative swans we purchased from a florist and home decor shop that had opened in our neighborhood a few years ago. I don’t know why we bought them, except to support the new shop owners. The shop has since moved to a smaller space in a busier location.

Speaking of drawers: I’m kind of a crossword puzzle freak. Lately, I’ve been going back through the NY Times archive and doing old crossword puzzles. Check out the clue that came up last night (after my drawers post). Also, check out 21 Down. For two days, I had a craving for Oreos. I bought a package of Double Stuf yesterday afternoon (again, before seeing the puzzle).

I cooked again the other day. I made more of Anne Marie’s balls (click here). Dudo and Moose were stunned to see me in the kitchen when they weren’t due for a treat. As you’ll see in the photos, Moose panicked.

Todavía no he salido.

Además, echa un vistazo a 21 Down.

We’re gonna te-ell…
Le diremos…
He’s in the kitchen! ALONE! I think he’s cooking!
¡El esta en la cocina! ¡SOLO! ¡Creo que él esta cocinando!

Ew. Not for me. Although I love cheesecake, as you well know, I’m not a fan of ANYTHING cheesecake flavoured… and especially not STRAWBERRY cheesecake.

  1. OK……I could handle that ‘droning’ once. This is not a regular nightly thing I am hoping!? And I hope they share their talents in different locations. I couldn’t see a ‘money can’….are they doing this for free?

The stars were all aligned for you/oreos/crossword/drawers/

    1. Jim:
First time we’ve ever seen (heard) them. These performers work their way up and down the paseo and sometimes around town. She had a plate for tips she was about to go around with when I cut the video.

  2. There was a news story of a story eagle knocking a drone out of the sky and into a lake the other days.

    1. David:
I saw that story and loved it. I’ve never seen eagles along our coast (the nearest ones are usually in the mountains above us). So the drone is probably safe.

  3. YAYZ for more moose & dudo photos!
and who is that sweaty masked sunglasses man?
    everybody loves my balls!

    1. anne marie:
I had a collection of Moose and Dudo photos still to share. They were lost in the computer update. So I have to start snapping away again. Even SG loves your balls!

    1. Deedles:
I hope the stuffed giraffes was recovered by its owner. Oh, that song. Thankfully that’s the only time we’ve seen or heard that duo… so far. They clearly don’t have a license to perform and the police have been cracking down this year thanks to the pandemic. They’re actually the first performers we’ve seen this summer.

  4. The expressions on Dudo and Moose in the photos is priceless. You cooking? Shocking, indeed! No treats? Unfathomable. 🙂

    1. Mary:
I cracked up when I turned around and saw them outside the kitchen door. Everybody’s a critic!

  5. To hell with Ouija Boards — the universe is communicating with you via the NY Times crossword puzzle!

    1. Debra:
I wish the Times would communicate sooner and with something more useful… like next week’s winning lottery numbers.

  6. Sounds like that music was someone’s karaoke night? Definitely amateur hour.

The “underwear” crossword clue was so appropriate given your recent blog post! But I would argue that “stuf” is not technically a word outside the walls of Nabisco, and thus doesn’t qualify for crossword inclusion.

    1. Steve:
The music was painful. SG was coming home with dinner (no cooking at our house that night) and couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on. As he said, “And they amplified their voices!!!”

Hey, crosswords are not like Scrabble. The words don’t have to be found in the dictionary; they just need to solve the clues.

  7. Oh My Goodness… what the hell with the “stuffed” one leg up on shorts ? ? ?
I looked at that great photo of you and I got a migraine thinking of the hot bright sun on your head and and eyes that is a major migraine trigger for me. Looking fabulous !
The cats ! The cats ! they always make me happy. Plus when a cat yawns it is so great, funny wild ? small mouth so many sharp teeth. Wild Cat,
    parsnip

    1. Parsnip:
We may never know about the shorts thing. Every theory gets blown out of the water by the next guy I see. I love the sun and the heat (usually). I have a cap I regularly wear, but didn’t have it that day.

I know what you mean about cat yawns. For people who don’t know cats, those yawns can be frightening. But, these guys are so gentle… except with each other. Amazing how wide that mouth can open!

  8. About 30 years ago I had a short wave radio, and switching around the dial I would often come across music that sounds somewhat like that in the video. I didn’t really hate it or like it. Just something different, that’s all.

Since the man is in a wheelchair, I’m guessing he wanted people to throw him money, but maybe not.

    1. Kirk:
The woman walked around with a tips plate after they finished. I wondered where the music originated. (But I have to admit I wish it had stayed there that night.)
