WHILE WE ENJOYED COFFEE AND conversation yesterday with lovely Lulu, the kitchen team at Mesón Salvador were cooking (and baking) up a storm. I don’t know how I managed to get out of there without sampling everything.
The first items to catch my eye were the cakes. Gorgeous. They joined the Spanish tortilla sitting on the counter between kitchen and bar until they were moved to the tall dessert case. Then there was the tapas case; although it was regularly restocked it was never full for long.
San Geraldo baked another batch of banana bread yesterday evening so I’m not completely deprived. And I just gave the cats their treats, so they won’t feel deprived for at least another hour.
THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I normally do on my blog, but I can’t let this day pass without mentioning USA Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who, after selflessly serving until the very end, has died at the age of 87. A truly great person, dedicated and inspiring. May her family and friends find peace and pride in her memory. And may the country (and the fight for freedom and equality) survive this terrible loss.

MIENTRAS DISFRUTAMOS DEL CAFÉ Y de la conversación de ayer con la encantadora Lulu, el equipo de cocina de Mesón Salvador estaba cocinando (y horneando) una tormenta. No sé cómo me las arreglé para salir de allí sin probarlo todo.
Los primeros elementos que me llamaron la atención fueron los postres. Maravilloso. Se unieron a la tortilla española sentada en el mostrador entre la cocina y la barra hasta que fueron trasladados a la caja de postres. Luego estaba el caso de las tapas; aunque se reabastecía regularmente, nunca estuvo lleno por mucho tiempo.
San Geraldo horneó otro lote de pan de plátano (tarta de plátano) ayer por la tarde, así que no estoy completamente privado. Y acabo de darle a los gatos sus aperitivos, para que no se sientan privados durante al menos una hora más.
ESTO NO ES ALGO que hago normalmente en mi blog, pero no puedo dejar pasar este día sin mencionar a la jueza de la Corte Suprema de Estados Unidos, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, quien, después de servir hasta el final, murió a la edad de 87 años. Ella era una gran persona, dedicada e inspiradora. Que su familia y amigos encuentren paz y orgullo en su memoria. Y que el país (y la lucha por la libertad y la igualdad) sobreviva a esta terrible pérdida.

Thanks for mentioning RBG’s passing. I too was moved when I heard this and I am not a citizen of the USA. Her presence will be sorely missed……….. RIP

We have no “shmeer” in the house. We used to love that… or with butter. Now, we take our banana bread plain. Such health freaks.
Yeah, it’s not looking good for the Supreme Court, although there’s hope that some of McConnell’s more moderate Senate Republicans want to wait until after the election to confirm her successor — which, if true, would be a boon. Those baked goods look amazing!

Uf, I won’t even get started talking about US politics again today. In addition to the cakes I shared, a carrot cake and another cheese cake were marched out to the display case while we sat there. I made a space on our table for them and the chef actually brought them over to me. SO tempting.
The food looks glorious…
But the news of RGB’s passing simply guts me. A true judicial giant and a wonderful human being. RIP.

Oh this year! In hindsight, vision is said to be 20/20. What a terrible thought.
I had to chuckle at the shredded mouse. As they say, “It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.” 🙂

Mesón Salvador, Avenida de los Boliches, 97, 29640 Fuengirola, Málaga. Swim through the Straight of Gibraltar and follow the coast (NNE). It’s about a 25-hour walk from Gibraltar. I don’t know how long it will take to swim.
I do hope the loose eye next to the mouse carcas is not a message to you regarding timing of the treats! And food art! My gosh, how did you not try some of each?!
RGB was a wonder. The US is a better place because of her work. Let’s honor her memory with our efforts.

No worries. They leave us carcasses and body parts even when we’re following orders to the letter.
RBG was a legend in her own time. She makes me want to do better and be better.
Meanwhile, Moose, Dudo, and all of those beautiful treats remind me how to smile!

No surprise, but I’ve been in the mood for a chocolate and sugar binge in recent days. Can’t believe I’ve managed to control myself.
It remains such a pleasure to see the scrumptious things you have to eat. Food and good cheer; you two are quite fortunate.
