THE STATUE OF SAN RAFAEL has been settled atop its much shorter column and, I think, looks great at the new height and in the new location. I was surprised, but pleased, they didn’t remove the bird crap. After all, the statue was modelled after an egomaniacal, self-aggrandising, crooked developer (click here).
I’m working my way happily through the chocolates Lulu gave us. There’s one remaining, which I’ll enjoy this afternoon. Then it’s on to the gingerbread. San Geraldo, who has lost about 45 pounds (20 kilos; 3.2 stone), has lived up to his sainthood.
As I mentioned recently, I’ve willingly taken over responsibility for the “gardens” on our terrace and at our entry. That includes two large planters of aloe vera. They have grown so large that all the new growth below the original plants was overwhelming the planters. So, I’ve been pulling out the volunteers. I’ll start saving them in another pot for Kathleen and Pedro for the day when we can see them again. I love trimming and feeding and doing all kinds of plant care and, since this has been San Geraldo’s baby for the past several years, I’m really enjoying being back at it again. So, it’s no wonder I’ve been shoving my bare arm into the aloe as i work on it. I did some major damage (to myself) yesterday. I thought it was ironic to use aloe vera (I had plenty of pieces on hand) to treat the wounds I received — from the aloe vera. But it worked.
When I showed San Geraldo the scratches yesterday evening, he was in shock. “Didn’t you even think of wearing a long-sleeve shirt?!? he asked incredulously. I told him I had. “But then I figured, what the hell, it can go in a blog post.”
We had coffee with Lulu this morning before she met a group of friends to go sailing in the hopes of seeing dolphins. They’ve been spotted a lot lately. People tell us they see them all the time off our coast. We’ve lived here nearly 8 years, on the beach, with an unobstructed view. We have never seen a dolphin. Anyway, Lulu wanted to show her pleasure and appreciation by dressing for the occasion. You can see that below.

Entonces, he estado retirando a los voluntarios.

A pirate walks into a bar with a ship’s wheel sticking out of his pants. “What’s with the wheel?” asks the bartender. “Arrr,” says the pirate. “This wheel is drivin’ me nuts.”
