The days have been sunny and warm, and I have spent them mostly indoors. I don’t know if I’ve got a cold or if I’m suffering from seasonal allergies. I have a drip that makes me cough and a cough that makes my chest and head sometimes hurt, and then there are the dizzies. Oddly, I don’t cough or drip at all when I’m lying down. So, the last couple of nights have brought good sleep. I thought I’d push myself out for a walk today. It’s only slightly sunny, and rain and thunderstorms are predicted throughout the day. Maybe some exercise at home, if I can manage it. I’m sure I can manage something.
The dishwasher is acting up lately. This morning, the dishes were clean, but perhaps half the liquid soap was sitting in the bottom of the machine. The other day there was standing water. Twice it has stopped running mid-cycle. We’ll see if it can be repaired (I don’t think it’s worth it) or if we’ll get a nice new one.
In recent days, I’ve managed to completely reorganize the kitchen after emptying the entire space below the island of cat food. It didn’t help that San Geraldo had just done an online order. Canned treats, foil-packed treats, dry food, litter. As SG said, we could have opened a pet supply shop.
The photo above (and two others today) are of the Guadalcabrillas Tower as viewed on my walk back from the botanic gardens with Elena. The watchtower dates back to the 14th century and is built upon earlier Emirate, Almohad, and Christian structures. It was one of several towers along the wall on the Guadalquivir River.
We’re talking about an overnighter in Fuengirola, but decided this week would probably still be busy with tourists. We want to get there before June when the summer season starts picking up.

• Victoria Market. The charcuterie looks delicious. And add to that a negroni with vermouth for only €4.
Since the tower this song has been playing in my head. The only Italian lyrics I know are:
Desde que vi la torre, esta canción no deja de sonar en mi cabeza. La única letra en italiano que conozco es:
Evviva la Torre di Pisa
che pende, che pende
e mai non vien giú.
¡Viva la Torre Inclinada de Pisa!
Que se inclina, que se inclina
y nunca se cae.
Long live the Tower of Pisa
that leans, that leans
and never comes down.
That sounds like the cold or whatever it was that I had. I think it’s a virus going everywhere. Air travel helps. Get well soon. Boud
Boud:
You’re right. It’s a cold. But clearly not as bad as years. Quickly improving (still feeling sorry for myself but only a little bit).
And here I thought YOU were the dishwasher!! lol
Well, in a way you are, I guess.
Cat supplies giveaway in your near future…..
Jim:
Oh, yeah, I’m still the dishwasher and the dishwasher loader. All the cat supplies are now gone.
Perhaps ask around the building; surely someone has a cat or two or more.
I think y’all deserve a getaway and should take it.
Bob:
Friends had already last week picked up everything cat related except one cat tree because they ran out of space in the car. Others picked up the remaining cat tree today (and she volunteers for animal rescue in the city).
That’s me ^^^^
It’s been chilly and overcast here but today is sunny. My nose drips when it’s chilly but no cough. I was trying to figure out where that interior shot is from the other two pictures, ground floor since you say you didn’t go up the stairs. Does the city maintain these old structures?
ellen abbott:
The City does an amazing job restoring and maintaining many of these ancient structures. And, they make sure ones like this are safe (otherwise the stairs would be blocked). I’ve clearly had a cold, but it’s showing signs of improvement today.
Wow. A negroni for just 4 Euro! I had one in Venice a couple of summers ago and it was 20 Euro!!
Michael:
I’ve never had a negroni. But I liked the price. I think that’s a good price, but we wouldn’t pay €20 for a cocktail here (normally).
Inquiring minds want to know- is that an accordion or a concertina in that catchy tower tune?
I can’t imagine why you didn’t climb those steps.
That hand looks so disembodied to me. Are you sure there’s a real human back there?
My dishwasher does that when the water line needs clearing. Do you ever clean out the filter in the bottom of it? It gets gunked up and then things back up and next thing you know- it ain’t working.
Feel better, Mitchell. Please.
Ms. Moon
Ms. Moon:
I’ve heard of a bandoneon and an organetto being common with this kind of music in Italy, but I don’t know for sure. There was no human attached to that hand. They have AI staff now. I’m sure the filter in the dishwasher has NEVER been cleaned. The owner never maintained anything and I can’t believe I didn’t do so when I cleaned the entire machine inside and out! It is a cold I’ve had and the worst is past.
We’re still cold here.
Currently sitting in the mid-thirties. I thought spring was here, but no.
Hope the head cold/allergies/thingy goes away.
And I love the idea of a 14th century tower whose foundations are even OLDER!!
XOXO
Sixpence:
The mid-30s! No thanks! We complain at 50 (well, SG complains if it’s lower than 65).
Get out and travel when you can.
David:
Life is a banquet?
Delightful old ruin.
I mean the tower, not you! 🤣🤣🤣
I love tapas in any form – even just olives on a stick – but not Negroni. It tastes like oil of cloves (like we used to have in the old days for toothache)!
NB The UK has two Bank Holiday weekends in May (one for May Day, which is when we’re there, and another that used to be known as Whitsun at the end of the month), so you’ll need to choose your trip carefully if you want to avoid the Brits in Fuengirola…
Jx
Jon:
I understood you meant the tower. I am NOT delightful. That counter at Victoria Market was enticing to me that day. I’ve never had a negroni. I just liked that it was only €4. Thanks for the heads up about the bank holidays. We hope to be at the beach this month.
What a cozy and well-appointed guest room they have at the Guadalcabrillas Tower! I wonder if they rent it out on AirBnB?
Debra She Who Seeks:
Isn’t that charming? And right on the river!
I have a knackered old dishwasher
Me
finlaygray:
It’s the only old thing (other than us) left in our kitchen.
It’s dripping, sniffing, coughing season here. I love your photos, especially the second two of the tower. The lighting is wonderful!
Kelly:
Yep, it’s a cold. But I’m already improving.
I do hope that in October when we are cruising around towns and Islands in Spain we have a chance to sample the excellent food. Your photos remind me of the great variety available and such reasonable prices.
larrymuffin:
Oh, I too hope you have some good opportunities.
Ahh, it would be good for you two to do an overnighter 🙂 I hope it works out that you can.
Judy C:
So do I. It’s been way too long.
All that moss could make a walk up the steps slippery.
Kirk:
It wasn’t moss, but I would have to be careful. And we all know how that goes.
It’s kind of odd that the problem goes away when you lie down. Apparently you need to lie down more often. Or all the time. Would the landlord pay for a new dishwasher?
Love,
Janie
janiejunebug:
If the dishwasher isn’t worth repairing, she would willingly pay. She’s turned out be great. Yes, I think it’s odd that I don’t drip or cough when I lie down. But it has made things easier. Anyway, I’m already improving today.
I’m having the same fun that you are. Sniffles and runny nose. Yuck. We’re having the best weather since last winter and I need to be tethered to a kleenex box. And Ken’s got seasonal allergies kicking in.
Walt the Fourth:
I was calling it allergies, but it’s clearly a cold. However, it’s already receding. Wishing Ken well with the seasonal allergies. Mine used to be much worse.
This is that weird time of year for me. My body heater feels off and I have no tolerance for cold weather… and it’s been COLD (snow this morning). Could be blazingly sunny outside, but as soon as I hit the outdoor air, nope!
Sounds like your dishwasher has a clogged drain line or a clogged filter.
Rade:
I hope it means a new dishwasher!
I’ve had a lot of nasal and coughing issues too. Maybe it IS spring. I don’t think mine is a cold — it’s lasted too long. It will be fun to see some pics from Fuengirola again!
Steve:
I’m improving today but not completely over it.
