I walked over to La Perlita this afternoon to join some of the gang for a pre-Feria (the Sevilla Fair) beer. Feria will officially begin Tuesday and it continues through Sunday. As I neared La Perlita, I noticed a smartly dressed man and woman outside the bar who appeared to be a bit early for Feria. A second look told me there was something not quite right about them. The man’s pants and jacket weren’t color-coordinated, for one thing. But I think what really gave it away was the fact that, instead of baring her neck and shoulders, the woman had a T-shirt on under her traditional dress, and the T-shirt was stretched across an overly broad back and shoulders and a slightly thick neck that needed a shave.
|AN OLD-FASHIONED BRIDE AND GROOM.|
The happy couple were with five guys in white T-shirts imprinted with black neck ties. It was the early stages (they were still sober) of a bachelor party. The “groom” is in fact the groom who will be married tomorrow. The “bride” told me matter-of-factly, “I just liked the dress.” They happily posed for a photo after I told them I had never seen such an elegant and beautiful woman in the United States. (“Lady of Spain, I Adore You” works every time.)
|I THINK THE PINK HAIR WAS IN EXTREMELY BAD TASTE.|
I was about to sit down with my friends when I spotted another duo dressed in their traditional Feria costumes. They appeared to be in quite a rush, so I had to quickly zoom in and snap before they got too far.
It should be another interesting week in Sevilla.

Pink hair? that's nothing. When my oldest was in her last year of high school she would come home with green, blue, beet red, fluorescent pink hair. I didn't know what to expect. And they claimed (her little gang) that it was in good taste. Go figure.
What it looks like to me is that it was fun. And you are the fortunate one to be there to enjoy it.
But what color was her dress? I just don't think the pink hair goes with the yellow dress with black polka dots (especially after he so clearly coordinated the shorts, socks, and sneakers).
But, really, I'll bet you're glad THAT phase is over.
I LOVE Aerosmith!! I just do!
Now, what the heck is going on in Sevilla!? another festival of sorts….it's never ending there! And in drag too! Please help me to figure out these Spaniards! lol
Great post Mitch, a little of this and a little of that….
If it isn't one holiday or celebration, it's another. Lots of very hard-working people who take their relaxation very seriously. A nice way to live.
Now that's quite the tradition…imagine this in America or Canada…probably freeze their knackers off here!
Never cold enough in Sevilla to freeze ones knackers off. (But the guys in dresses ARE wearing layers.)
The groom looked a bit "bo peep" for me.
He could have tried harder, damn it.
I don't think he had much to do with it. His friends dressed him.
oh those shoes! I thought Europeans had better fashion sense.
Well, they couldn't possibly be Sevillanos(as) in those outfits.
Remember, Star-Kist doesn't want tunas with good taste, they want tunas that taste good. Maybe that hair is cotton candy?
Walt the Fourth:
It's a thought. Definitely the right color for that.
Chap in the blue dress looks quite at home in it. The pair in the pink and yellow look more like something from Interpol's "Least Wanted" list…
The Owl Wood:
Yes, they were clearly trying to blend in and not attract any attention.
It will be an interesting week here on "Mitchell is Moving", with everything that's going on at Feria. Hope you reserved a seat for the lightshow on Monday or the Paseo de Caballos.
No seat for a light show (and now I'll have to find out all about THAT)! We have been invited by a dear friend to a caseta several of the nights, which is very exciting (but we'll probably only go once because we have to dress formal for that)! I can't wait to take pictures of the horses and riders… and costumes… and rides… and festivities. Oh, it will definitely be a busy (and I hope interesting) week on "Mitchell is Moving"!
All that pomp of the parades a week back and now all the pomp of men in drag.
It's a nice way to live. I don't know how many more men in drag I'll see this week, but I'll be on the lookout.
Looks like a fun-filled week ahead!
I am really looking forward to this!
I bet they were British. On behalf of all Brits, I'm sorry!
Come to think of it, they do look kind of British, don't they!?!
What a fun and colorful place to live! Seems like there is a never a dull moment!
I can understand why so many people tell me it's their favorite city. Amazing!
