He Said No, No, No

The Dowager Duchess is doing wonderfully, I’m happy to report. And she is so grateful for each and every good wish she received from everyone here. She said all your kindnesses have a lot to do with how well she feels. I, also, am so grateful to you all.

THE VIEW FROM THE DOWAGER DUCHESS’S WINDOW AT REHAB.

The rehabilitation facility, The Haym Salomon Home, is phenomenal. I have never witnessed such kind, professional care. Both the Duchess and I thank the staff constantly. The Duchess is thriving at physical therapy and occupational therapy. A nurse stopped by Sunday evening and said, “Come on, my dear, we’re going for a walk.” The two took off to circle the entire 7th floor. They returned surprisingly quickly and the nurse told me, “We would have taken longer but she walks too fast!” That’s my mother!

The Kid Brother was here Sunday morning.

At 7:45 Sunday morning!!!

We walked to Coney Island and had lunch at Grimaldi’s Pizza. It’s a great place and a recent addition to the neighborhood, which is definitely showing an upswing. (Wallburgers will be opening soon.) We arrived before Grimaldi’s opened and The Kid Brother was locked in on the place, so we wandered the Boardwalk and the candy emporium called IT’SUGAR for a half hour.

After lunch, The Kid Brother headed home and I went to visit the Duchess. I almost had the Kid Brother convinced in the morning to come with me to visit before lunch. But, he has a difficult time with hospitals and other kinds of health facilities. So, he opted out. I wasn’t surprised and completely understand. I’m very pleased, though, that he has spoken with The Duchess on the phone each time he’s been with me.

I tried to get the Kid Brother to go to rehab. He said, “No. No. No.”
