I get to go home to San Geraldo tomorrow. Today has been a low-key day. I walked to DUMBO, the neighborhood. It stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. I’ll share photos once I’m back in Spain. Today’s photos are from in and around the Art Deco masterpiece that is Rockefeller Center. And now I’m going to start packing — my two suitcases. We’ll talk again once I’m home.

Puedo que ir a casa a San Geraldo mañana. Hoy ha sido un día discreto. Caminé hasta DUMBO, el barrio. Son las siglas de Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.

One of my fav places on earth
John gray:
Mine, too. I worked on 6th Avenue across the street from Radio City. Used to have my lunch outside on Rockefeller Plaza… and then spend my pay check at Sak’s.
Art Deco always gets my attention. Nice photos!
Safe trip back.
Jim:
Thanks. I love that neighborhood.
Amazing Art Deco! Safe journey home… Jx
Jon:
I could endlessly loop the streets just to admire the deco.
I love these!
Judy C:
Such incredible design.
Looks like an amazing day, relax and enjoy the trip home.
David:
Have to make a stop at the Kid Brother’s on the way to the airport to fix a registration problem with his mobile. Argh. Inhale. Exhale. Repeat.
I love art deco and mythology, so these photos are right up my alley! Also, thanks for explaining what DUMBO means. I’ve seen the term in reference to New York City but never understood what it meant. To me, Dumbo is just a Disney movie about an elephant, lol! Have a safe trip home to SG! I bet he and the cats missed you!
Debra:
You would actually know what you were seeing. I admired the art, but was clueless most of the time. OK, I know Atlas. SO excited to be home with the cats… and SG.
One of my favorite sights in La Grande Apple. And I just realized THAT’S where I left my gardening spade!!!
Safe travels home. i imagine sg and The Boys are dying for your return!
Bob:
The gardening spade is fun, but they got kind of high-minded about the description… as artists and curators do.
Love your pictures! Have a safe trip back to Spain.
mcpersonalspace54:
Thanks. Time to shower and finish packing.
Wow – that went by quickly! I know you’ll be happy to back with SG soon.
Wilma:
SO excited to get home!
An exquisite piece of urban architecture! And I have that album… a favorite. Have a safe return trip!
Walt the Fourth:
Can’t believe how old the album now is. Still love it. Finishing breakfast and getting a move on.
Your pictures of Rockefeller Centre are great! I love Art Deco design, only edged out by Art Nouveau — my favourite picture is of the Art Deco sidewalk grate through which a small tree is growing. I’m sure that SG, Dudo and Moose will give you a warm reception upon your return once you’ve given them their souvenirs and treats, LOL!
They didn’t even need their souvenirs and treats. I feel loved… and now it’s time for a siesta.
Were those reliefs over the doors always painted? I don’t remember paint. I love “The Rock”!
Steve:
I wonder if the buildings were cleaned and the painting refreshed. I didn’t remember them being so bright and vivid.
