Grand Central

It’s my third full day in New York and the jet lag is beginning to ease. I had almost no sleep Tuesday night, but slept a bit last night. The Kid Brother was here Wednesday and we did a bit of walking, shopping, lunching, and snacking. He’s having trouble with his leg and it was aching by the end of our day. He banged his shin hard way back in 1989 and has had issues with that leg ever since. But recently it’s become a major problem for him. He says he has a medical appointment in December, but I don’t know if that’s even about the leg. So I’ll phone his office today. (They still get on his nerves.) Happily, he seems to be completely settled in to not working.

Thursday, I met great old friends (39 years) Daisy and Cesar at Grand Central Station where we had lunch at the nearby Capital Grill. They take the train down from Guilford, Connecticut. Although we always have a lot of catching up to do every year, our friendship and the joy we feel when we’re together never fade. They took Metro North home and I took the subway to Brooklyn. It was 4:30 and that was me done for the day.

San Geraldo and I video chatted on WhatsApp this morning. I asked him if he saw the photos I sent yesterday. He hadn’t and began to madly search his shoulder bag while we talked. I asked, “Are you talking via your computer right now?” “No,” he replied as his search continued more frantically. “What are you looking for?” I asked. “My phone,” he responded with frustration. “What are you talking on?” “My phone…” and we burst out laughing.

The Kid Brother will be here in less than two hours. We’ll go to the Transit Museum, lunch, Mia’s Bakery, and whatever else he can handle. Not too much walking this time. We can sit in all the train cars at the museum.

  1. So happy to see you having a wonderful time with your friends, in New York! What’s going on with the cases behind you three, that have bottles in them, but names of people and/or companies?
Ohhhhhhh thanks for the chuckle this morning about SG looking for his phone!

    1. I thought exactly the same about those shelves in the background. Are they “private booze cabinets”, like changing-room or luggage lockers – only for your precious wines? All very swanky…

      Jx

    2. Judy C,
The restaurant has walls of wines. Daisy thought it would be a good backdrop. I don’t know what the names were.

  2. How does it feel to be
    One of the beautiful
    People?
Gorgeous picture of the three of you.
Hope you catch up on your sleep soon.

    1. Ms. Moon,
Oh, I want your vision! I caught up on my sleep last night. I’m going home tonight!

  3. Great pics! I know Chuck is thrilled to be spending time with you! Please tell him hello from me. 😊

    Jennifer

    1. Jennifer,
I grave him your regards. He said “the one with the dogs and bird.” High praise.

  4. “What are you looking for?” I asked. “My phone,” he responded with frustration. “What are you talking on?” “My phone…” and we burst out laughing. — Sounds like something I’d do. 😆

  5. I’ve been wondering about jet lag, and I’m glad you’re doing better. It’s top bad that Chuck is having walking problems, but it sounds as if you’ve got great plans. How does he occupy his time now he’s not working?
Those friends sound great. You do have a talent for friendship.

    1. Boud:
I’m not quite sure what Chuck does to keep himself busy during the day. Laundry Monday and Friday. Saturday and Sunday he has bowling or softball at different times of year.

  6. Even though we lived in Connecticut for YEARS, we hardly ever went to New York. I kind of regret not spending more time there. It such a different world from what we’re used to…caviar? Oh my. Never had it. By the way, are/were you eligible to vote as a New Yorker?

  7. Don’t you always take a photo of KB at the Transit Museum? Have you ever made a collage of those photos? So glad you’re having a great time. Poor SG. He sounds like me!

  8. That’s a terrific photo of you, Daisy & Cesar — you all look very happy to be together! Hopefully, your jet lag and Chuck’s leg trouble won’t detract from your visit.

    1. Tundra Bunny,
Today’s my last day. I slept last night and the jet lag is finally gone. It was rough this time around.

  9. Awww. Always such great, clear photos. And you get the joy out of so many situations! Thanks for sharing that. I see the Pan Am building! Not sure of its current name. Olivia

  10. Great photos and glad you and the KB are doing your thing.
I will leave now and tell Carlos the SG story and remind him that he is also SG!!!

  11. Ah, SG. Such a card. Grand Central is so beautiful nowadays. Wasn’t it Jackie Kennedy who led the effort to clean it up and preserve it?
