Peace train / Tren de paz

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I’m on the train to Málaga. Meeting Nick and Alyson there cuts our travel time to less than half what it would be if I were to go all the way to Fuengirola. It was their suggestion and it was a good one. We’ll have to think like this in the future.

The trip into Málaga is about an hour. The trip to Fuengirola requires me to catch the commuter train and then ride another 40+ minutes. All told, if I’m only going for the day, it can easily be an additional 2 hours that could be spent with friends.

Today you get to see some of Dudo and a bonus shot of Moose, who snuck back in. The one of Dudo below simply struck me as interesting. We say he’s getting old and he’s not well and he just doesn’t have the spark he once had. Then he comes flying through the apartment, chasing Moose, bouncing from one sofa to another, and acting like a kitten. He was out and about more Tuesday. Monday when I went to sleep, Moose was on the bed and Dudo was curled up in what used to be his chair. He spent much of the night there while Moose spent much of the night on the bed braced against San Geraldo’s leg. When I say “the night,” I mean until 3 or so. Then they get fidgety for treat time and SG is soon out of bed for them, usually by 4. Poor SG. I was being ironic when I nicknamed him San Geraldo but, sometimes he really is.

• There’s something about this shot of Dudo that I like.
• Hay algo en esta foto de Dudo que me gusta.

It was a wonderful day. Fun to be in the city and a joy to be with Nick and Alyson.

  1. I love that video, “Peace Train.” I posted it maybe this past summer. I could listen to it over and over. I like the shot of Dudo in the hallway too. His shadow on the floor adds a certain “je ne sais quoi” to it!

    1. Michael:
Yes! Now I remember that you were the reason I saw the video the first time. Thank you!

  2. Yes, “hallway Dudo” is an amazing shot, love it! He looks a little tentative but is bravely advancing into the unknown. And I still love the music of Yusuf Cat Stevens too, as much as when I was a teenager.

    1. Debra:
Thanks! Dudo was actually on his way back to the apartment and I think he couldn’t decided if he really wanted to leave. I’m with you about Yusuf Cat Stevens. He sang to me when I was a teen and he sings to me now.

  3. That first photo of Dudo makes me think of Mata Hari. Do you see it? And yes, the hallway shot is very nice.
Playing for Change is one of the things that reminds me that there is hope for this world. There is goodness.
Here’s hoping you had a terrific visit with your friends.

I had to think for a moment but, yes, now I see Mata Hari. Playing for Change always moves me and, yes gives me a sense of hope. It was a perfect day.

  4. I can never get enough of Dudo’s face, and I love his adventure in the hallway.

Hope you have a wonderful visit!

    1. Bob:
Dudo loves our visits to the hallway. He doesn’t last very long, however. He can hear sounds from people in halls on other floors and sometimes they’re too close for comfort. And if one of the elevators arrives, he flies through the air.

  5. Dudo may be reserving the high energy spurts for special occasions only now.
    LOVE that hallway shot!
Cat Stevens, my first ‘crush’……..should have known then that something was brewing.
Have a good day with friends.

  6. You know, they could be twins except Moose is fluffier. We should have named Cat Spooky. Whenever she approaches a door she has to peer around before shooting through. Looking for gremlins I guess.

    1. ellen abbott:
We couldn’t tell the cats apart when we got them. Then we realized, although they’re black and white, their markings are entirely different. And then Moose got fluffier and Dudo got slender, and it became very easy at a glance.

    1. Shirley:
That video is so incredibly moving. And, yes, it made it even more powerful with his participation.

  7. Faboo photo of Dudo in the hallway – and I love that hall-stand! Very stylish.

Malaga is a beautiful city – and a nicer place to meet friends and go sight-seeing and cafe-hopping than Los Boliches (despite the lack of sea views).

    1. Jon:
We bought that hall stand in Washington DC around 1984. It has moved everywhere with us. You’ll be pleased to know it’s English! And, yes, Málaga was a wonderful place to meet up. And so easy.

  8. Excellent kitty photos. All of them! I had a number of Cat Stevens albums, but my favorite was Catch Bull at Four.

  9. I hope your day went well. If SG kept some kitty treats in a drawer in the bedroom, then could he give out treats early in the morning and get some more sleep, or would the terrible twosome bother him all night long because they know the treats are in the room? When I was in high school, I listened to my Cat Stevens’ 8 track tapes over and over. Loved him and still do.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. janiejunebug:
The cats want wet treats on a plate. Not something to keep stashed in the night table. And, you’re right. If they knew there were treats in that drawer, they’d been in there all night.

  10. Love, love, LUV that shot of Dudo in the hallway: it looks like he’s tentatively moving from the modern reality of the hallway to a Norman Rockwell painting of an antique hall-stand.

  11. Dudo is so cute curled up on that chair in the first picture. And that video! It made me cry! It was so good to see Yusuf/Cat Stevens performing again with all those wonderful musicians. That choir from Mississippi was exceptional. I haven’t followed Playing for Change in years but now I want to start again!

    1. Steve:
Dudo is adorable. Yes, I have to keep following Playing for Change. They make me cry and they give me hope. This one especially is exquisite.

  12. The photo of Dudo in the corridor with what looks like a painting of furniture as a surrealist quality about it. When they become old and not well, it is difficult to see them in that state.

    1. larrymuffin:
That’s the entry to apartment with our coat rack visible. Poorly lit and too far away gave it a wonderful quality that I loved.
