Greetings from the tundra / Saludos desde la tundra /

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I arrived in frigid NYC Monday. Stories to tell once I’m back in Spain next week, but flights went without a hitch. KLM from Amsterdam was a pleasure. We’re having a heatwave. Temperature is currently 21F/-6C and climbing to 32F/0C today. Tomorrow, when The Kid Brother and I go to the NYC Transit Museum, it’s expected to be springlike at 37F/3C! Today I’m meeting great friends, Daisy and Cesar, from Connecticut for lunch near Grand Central Station. They’re taking two trains to get here from Guilford. Tuesday was Coney Island for Nathan’s hot dogs and then a walk through Brighton Beach. Nick and Alyson happened to be here for their annual visit, so we met them for lunch. Yesterday, I lounged most of the day and then met my cousin Erik and my aunt Elaine for an early dinner at a great Italian restaurant in Brooklyn Heights. I walked there. Less than 20 minutes. They drove from Long Island. More than an hour in traffic. Very kind of them. My cousin suggested the restaurant and it was exceptional. A perfect, if cold, evening. I’ll fill in with stories at another time. Just wanted to let you know I arrived safely and all is well. And it’s cold! And I miss San Geraldo, but wouldn’t wish this weather on him. The top photo is the view from my room.

Fui caminando.

  1. Oh! So pleased to see notice on FB of a post from you today! Great to hear about the Brooklyn Heights Italian restaurant meet-up… I look forward to finding out which one it was. Always great to know that you are getting to see family and friends when here in the US. I’m hoping Chuck is doing well!

  2. So glad to know you’re there and having such a great time! I look forward to hearing all the stories. Stay warm! I’m suffering in this cold. It’s not meant to get in the low teens in south Arkansas.

      1. If you come across an REI or other outdoor store, look for a fleece neck gaiter. I have one by a company called Turtle, and it comes up over my entire nose and stays put. It has been invaluable this passt week.

It looks like you are managing to fit in a lot of good times despite the cold.

        1. Nina,
That would have been great. SG has a couple of those. But it appears I’ve survived the worst!

  3. I bet you’re so glad you packed that coat. I’m glad you’re not only surviving but very active despite the arctic temps. I hope your brother is enjoying your visit, especially the transport museum, he’ll love that. Boud.

    1. Boud,
Chuck will be here in about an hour. He’s having a good time, too. And I sure am glad I’ve got the coat!

  4. Hurray! I’ve been waiting for his. Glad you arrived safely and are enjoying such balmy weather! Hahahahahaha!
Seriously, stay warm and keep having fun. Big love to you and KB.

  5. She started a heat wave
    By letting her seat wave
And in such a way that
    The customers say that
    She certainly can can-can!

    Keep warm, dearie! Jx

  6. Walked for 20 minutes? I commend you. Just the two minutes it takes to walk to my car was enough for me in this cold.

  7. Boy, what a time to be here….cold, snow, frigid, the great turd back in the office……. sounds like you’re making the most of your trip and having a good visit. I bet the Kid is so happy!

    1. Mistress Borghese,
Chuck is clearly happy. And today I give him all his presents and some money. It will be a very happy day. I’m pretending that asshole is not in office and this horror is not occurring.

  8. I’m glad your flights went well. I hoped you wouldn’t experience delays. If SG were with you you’d have to keep him inside some sort of heated bubble. Those temperatures would be unbearable for your beloved.

    Love,
    Janie

  9. Glad you made it safely to the concrete tundra, Scoot! Perhaps you should invest in a Canadian winter clothing staple: the balaclava! Did you get tickets to see Colbert? If not, don’t forget to snap a selfie in front of his theatre, LOL!

    1. For this once a year it doesn’t seem worth the investment. I bought this down coat 30 years ago and it looks like new. I’m actually well prepared for the weather. No time for Steven this visit. I think he’ll forgive me.

    1. And I’ve had some phenomenal meals. I’ll share all (the stories and photos, not the food, sorry) when I’m home.
