Ya mean like 9? / ¿Te refieres a algo así como 9?

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglé

I’m sitting in the lobby of my hotel waiting for The Kid Brother to arrive for our last day together. It will be Trader Joe’s for a big shop, and I don’t know what else. Yesterday, I met my cousins (family I would choose) for dim sum lunch in Chinatown and then a wander.

Photos and stories to come when I’m home and not working on my uncooperative iPad. I lost this post nine times. It spontaneously clears and saves. Crud! It just did it again. Ten is the last chance. Wednesday, I told The Kid Brother to come to the hotel at 10:30. He said, “Ya mean like 9?” I replied, “No, I mean like 10:30.” He showed up around 11:15.

It’s nearly 11:15 now. Today he’ll do a big shop at Trader Joe’s. We’ll have lunch somewhere first and I don’t know what else. It’s already 3C/37F and will reach 6C/43F. It’s spring! It’s been a superb week and I am exhausted. If not for KB I’d be in bed all day today. I hope I can stay on my feet.

Here are some random photos from Grand Central Station. Next time I write it will be from Córdoba.

Update: The Kid. Brother arrived at 11:16. We went to Trader Joe’s, lunch, and Mia’s Bakery. It’s now nearly 5. He’s home and I’m having a siesta until I have to check out of my room tomorrow! I know there are typos but if I correct them the entire post disappears again.

Fuimos a Trader Joe’s, almorzamos y fuimos a Mia’s Bakery. Ahora son las 17:00. Él está en casa y yo me estoy echando una siesta hasta que tenga que salir de mi habitación mañana. Creo que hay errores tipográficos, pero si los corrijo, el post entera desaparece de nuevo.

  1. Boud here. You did great. I’m betting you sleep across the Atlantic! I expect your brother had a great time with you.

    1. Boud,
Unfortunately, I never sleep on the plane. Those days ended when I stopped drinking or getting high! It’s going to be a long day. Chuck was very happy and so was I.

    1. Finlaygray,
I must admit I enjoy it here even if I wouldn’t want to live here again.

    1. Adam,
Chuck doesn’t know how to figure travel time. So when I say 10:30, he leaves his house at 10:30. You’d think I would have known that by now.

  2. I haven’t’ been to Grand Central Station in years. And it sure beats Penn Station, in style, architecture and grand touches. It’s sad when one has to go home from a vacation to rest. LOL.

    1. Debra,
I doubt there’ll be anything restful about the journey home, but I expect it to go smoothly. Can’t wait to be home with SG.

  3. I love the relationship you have with your brother. You are a real trooper for pushing through, making this trip, socializing…your a good man, Charlie Brown.

  4. Thank you for the pictures of Grand Central Station. What a gorgeous building. The picture of the chandelier looks like diamond jewelry.
It’s going to take you at least a week to recover but what a great trip and I know that it means the world to your brother.

    1. Ms. Moon,
Grand Central always takes my breath away. What a cool place. It was a great visit, but I can’t wait to get home… and go to bed for a week!

  5. I hope you have a good trip home and look forward to hearing all your stories! I love the photo of the Chrysler Building and that grand sky.

  6. Well, hopefully you’ll get to sleep on the plane! I don’t envy you blogging on the iPad. I hate blogging with no keyboard, never mind the clearing-and-saving issue.

Grand Central is looking good these days! There’s a swanky bar on the Fifth Avenue side called The Campbell Apartment that I used to love. I miss that place — by which I mean the bar, but also GCT and NYC in general.

    1. Steve,
It will be a great surprise if I sleep on the plane. Never happens. Sitting at the gate at JFK. Still an hour and a half until boarding. Grand Central is truly grand, and much better maintained since I commuted through it. Really fun shopping now, too.

  7. You make GCT look so pretty! It is a lovely design, but you make it look better. So glad you enjoyed your time there and with your brother. If you liked the Chinese restaurant, please drop the name. Smooth travels. Olivia

    1. Thanks, Olivia. Grand Central was looking especially grand to me. The dim sum restaurant is Golden Unicorn at 18 E. Broadway. Incredible!

  8. Typos shmypos–nobody cares. We’re all just happy to hear from you, and we’ll all be glad when you’re safely home again with your loved one in your arms.

    Love,
    Janie

Have been home for 2 hours and 40 minutes and just slept for 2 hours and 30 minutes!

    1. Sixpence Notthewiser:
The Kid Brother loves his annual Trader Joe’s fix. I used to love shopping there myself.
