This weekend has been described by The Weather Channel as the kind that goes well with a blanket. It’s been cloudy and sometimes rainy in recent days and looks like it will be mostly like this for the foreseeable future. The temps have dropped, as well. My mood again matches the weather, but I’m sure it’s because I’ve been following world news. No need for me to rehash it. I’ll just tell you I admire Spanish President Pedro Sánchez for his stand. Although we’ve seen little sun in recent days, I’ve still been getting out under gray and sometimes drizzly skies.
I still haven’t gotten back to my pseudo kintsugi repair, but San Geraldo and I did hang the new light fixture in the kitchen yesterday. He screwed and I did the rest. I had found a smaller version of the light we put up in the other part of the kitchen, but we needed one that wasn’t hard-wired. So I found a plug-in fixture we both liked that we felt went well with the black, white, and wood-toned kitchen. You can see it below. When the kitchen was redone about 10 years ago, which included recessed lighting, they missed the opportunity in that corner and we found the light very dim while we stood at the sink. The problem is finally solved. And cheaply.
On one of my recent walks around town, I discovered many new-to-me doors, but today I’ve focused on a few very old ones in homes undergoing renovation. I passed another ice cream shop (they’re everywhere). This one is on the street behind the mezquita/cathedral and they went to the trouble of reproducing the interior of the mezquita. I have no idea how good their ice cream is.
Then I noticed two very large and stunning door knockers on a set of exterior doors at the mezquita. I don’t know how I never noticed them before.
Dudo and Moose have been great. The rest of the lab results came back yesterday. Moose is the picture of health. All that showed up for Dudo was his hyperthyroidism. So his medication has been doubled and we hope to see quick improvement. He has a bruised nose from his temper tantrum at the vet’s, but he seems unbothered. He’s been delightfully sweet again, and annoyingly bossy. Moose has been sweeter than ever, and bossy, as well. Given the good news about their health, we’re thinking about hiring a pet sitter so we can go away for a day trip or an overnighter.
The Kid Brother was in a great mood when we spoke Tuesday night. He should have his monthly spending money by now and I asked the manager if someone could help him manage his money so it lasts through the month. Surprisingly, he was amenable to that plan. I hope he remains so. Once he’s learned how to not spend all his money at once, I’ll ask him to teach us!
Aunque hemos visto poco sol estos últimos días, he seguido saliendo bajo cielos grises y a veces lluviosos.
Y a buen precio.

• This knocker has the word “YEAR” beneath it. I’ll have to return and check the other one. Don Quixote?
• Esta aldaba tiene la palabra “AÑO” debajo. Tendré que volver a revisar la otra. ¿Don Quijote?

Mid-Atlantic has been caught in the gloom (dense fog most days where I am by the ChesBay) for a while now, too. Heading over the Pond next week and the damn gloom will likely just follow me over. Ah, well. I won’t be in the US. That, I consider to be a good thing. Hang in there. Mary
Mary:
Yes, not being in the US is a very good thing. Lots of clouds again today, but at least we had a recent break for sunshine. Buen viaje.
Such good news about your bebes. I am glad to hear it.
The blue door? Yes. Please. When you come to visit, bring that too. If you don’t mind.
Great light fixture! Good work, guys!
Do you suppose there are so many ice cream shops because it’s so hot there? Usually? The one you pictured is quite charming.
Ms. Moon
Ms. Moon:
Some old tired things, like the blue door, are perfection! The ice cream: Yes, the heat in summer and also the fact that there are so many tourists here.
I stand with President Sánchez, too; good on him.
Good news about the boys. I know that makes you feel better.
And I am loving the two-toned door so much that I might do that at Casa Bob y Carlos.
Bob:
The two mis-matched doors have a special charm. The house will be redone and those doors will be refinished, and it won’t be the same.
Nice job on that light fixture! North American doors and doorways are SO DULL compared to what you have in Spain!
Debra:
I agree about the doors. It’s so much fun here.
Wonderful kitchen! Lighting is so important, and you don’t realize it, I think, until it’s not right, and then you make it right, and love it so much 🙂 Our kitchen in this house has under-cabinet lighting… I never had a kitchen with it before, and didn’t know how much I’d love it, but it makes all the difference 🙂
Woo hoo for Moose and Dudo and possible day trips or overnighters 🙂
Judy C:
I installed under-cabinet lighting here and I love it. Sadly it didn’t solve the problem in that corner.
Ohhhhh, and I just read yesterday’s post and I LAUGHED OUT LOUD and clapped my hands together in delight, when I read about Ines Rosales… ohhhhhh, thank you, thank you, I need good laughs these days:) I’d give you both a hug for brightening my day, if I were there 🙂
Judy C:
I’m glad to help with the laughs. SG doesn’t let me down. I’m gleeful when he lets something slip and I immediately add it to NOTES on my iPhone. We’d give you big hugs right back!
I’m curious as to why only one side of the door is blue.
You have ice cream place, we have fried chicken places.
Kelly:
Well, there was a KFC AND a Popeyes at that shopping mall!
More doors, lovely. Some of the walls are a bit weather. Probably damaged about a thousand years ago. Boud
Boud:
“Weathered” is generous. They’re under renovation, but could like that for a very long time.
The new light is great. I read yesterday’s post so now ease a menorah doughy mah is running through my head in Harry Belafonte’s voice. I’ll be stuck with it until something takes its place. Numerous ice cream shops seem like a good idea to me.
Love,
Janie
janiejunebug:
Day-O, dough-o-E mah. Ease a menorah and me wan’ go home. Tourist town, ice cream shops.
What a striking kitty photo! Glad they are doing well, and hope you and Jerry can have a restorative getaway. Olivia
Olivia:
We both need a little escape, and to see old friends.
What a lovely tidy kitchen you have! Nice light too.
I thought of you last night as I was ” babysitting” ( he is 8) my grandson and they have a black and white cat that kept going in and out of the noisy cat flap in a nearby room. I am not used to the night time noises in their house and I took a while to get comfortable with it!!
Frances
Frances:
Our laundry room door has a cat flap. The cats are afraid of it.
All my years living in the middle of noisy cities made it difficult for me to adjust to sleeping in a quiet house when we moved to rural Connecticut.
Sorry, I have to get this out of the way…
[Bang! Bang!]
“What knockers!”
“Why, sank hue, Doctor!”
Mel just pops up…
I am also glad that your leader has stood up against Trump.
It’s been absolutely dreary and wet here, but finally, I can see the brown grass as a lot of the snow pack is disappearing. Hopefully, by weeks end I will be able to walk around the yard.
Rade:
Who can ever forget that?! I think I’ve shared a clip at least a couple of times in past “knockers” posts.
Nice Doors, let me grab my camera and let’s go for a walk.
David:
You would be in heaven.
Lovely knockers!
That ice-cream parlour is a bit OTT for such a small space. It would do my head in.
Jx
PS Love the kitchen light – but does it not get in the way if you want to open the window?
Jon:
It’s a tilt and turn window. We placed the fixture to be clear when the window is tilted. If we ever need to open it the other way (at this point only when Merchi cleans it), the light fixture can just be swung out of the way (we can reach it easily; Merchi uses a ladder). I thought the ice cream parlor was cool AND over the top, a bit overwhelming when you step inside. Then again, so is the Mezquita.
That’s a great lamp but where does it plug in and how do you turn it on and off? Mighty fancy ice cream shop. And those are some old doors in very old walls!
ellen abbott:
I ran the cord down the side of the cabinet and then underneath. It plugs in at the other end, behind the spice rack.
