With and without ice, and a chimney / Con y sin hielo, y una chimenea

See above what fun I had last night with a glass of ice and lemon, and below without ice and lemon. This could have kept me busy for hours. I contained myself. Way back in my early 30s, I started to have a problem with tendonitis/bursitis in my hips. It got to the point where some days I could barely walk. That’s when I learned more about exercise and strength training. At first it was trial and error, finding what made it worse and what eventually made it go away completely. I’ve rarely had a twinge in a long time except after my back surgery a few years ago, and that was a bit of torture for a few weeks. But, recently it flared up again. It might have been aggravated by my recent bout of moodiness and too much time in bed. I’ve been stretching up to six times a day and it seems to be helping, although not as quickly as I’d like. I’ve managed a couple of decent wanders around town, but eventually begin to walk with a painful dip in my hip, so I’ve been careful. Too bad I missed the bout of comfortable weather.

We’re back to high temperatures and moderate heat warning, although mornings and nights are glorious. I took a walk the other day through a neighborhood west-northwest of us called Huerta de la Reina (Queen’s Orchard). It’s a less historic neighborhood outside the city center, but it has its moments. Of course there are Roman ruins here and there and plenty from the 19th and 20th centuries. One pleasant, small park, called the Jardin Virgen de la Estrella (Virgin of the Star Garden) maintains a chimney to commemorate the neighborhood’s industrial past. The chimney was part of the Rodrigo Brothers agricultural-industrial complex established in 1843 and is maintained to commemorate the neighborhood’s industrial role.

San Geraldo had an appointment at the bank this morning and I met him after for coffee at La Bandera. I’m now trying to decide what to do after lunch, other than continue to stretch every hour. SG is still working on his aquarium. Still no water, plants, or fish. But he’s getting close.

Me contuve.

• This area used to be where people lived, and lived well, to escape the city. Many grand old homes are still in private hands while many others are seeing life as office and medical buildings.

• There was hole in the door leading into the garden. I peaked through but a nearby pile of junk blocked my view. If these walls could talk.
