Fish, vodka, simple dinner / Pez, vodka, cena sencilla

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

There’s some new public art on the Paseo and I actually like it. Fuengirola, in my opinion, is seriously lacking in its aesthetic when it comes to its public art. For example, there’s the “Fountain of Nations” across the street which is a globe rising from a foot bath (check it out here).

San Geraldo is busily and happily preparing his “simple” Christmas dinner. The photo below shows some of the serving dishes he’s selected for the “simple” dinner. The three decanters are now filled with home-made flavored vodkas (the vodka itself is by Absolut) — blueberry, cranberry, and tea. Right now he’s cooking poor man’s caviar. There’s a theme. I’ve got Cyrillic name cards for the table adorned with artistic Ukrainian borders. I’ll share photos of the feast once it’s all over. I doubt I’ll have time to post tomorrow. Enjoy your day, whether you celebrate Christmas, Saturnalia, The Matzo Ball — or Sunday.

• What went into making the cranberry vodka.
• Qué se hizo para hacer el vodka de arándanos.
• Moose just pooped (in his litter box) and then came running to see me. “Did I miss anything?!?”
• Moose justo hizo caca (en su caja de arena) y luego vino corriendo a verme. “¿¡¿Yo me perdí algo?!?”

  1. I love the fish, every dish is labeled with what is go in it, more insight into the person. I made cranberry, cherry and coffee liqueurs this year.

  2. The fish sculpture is a good concept, but unfortunately it looks like a pissoir from the streets of Paris or Amsterdam!

As for the “simple” meal, I would have had a breakdown just looking at all those plates. Jx

  3. Again, SG’s organizational skills are stunning!
And I need a recipe for Tea Vodka … it sounds intriguing.
Take a little Tea-flavored vodka, warm it up and stir in some Grand Marnier and you’d have a potent little Tea and Sympathy, one of my fave winter cocktails!

    1. Bob:
The tea vodka is interesting. The recipe is to put tea bags in vodka. (I’ll confirm with SG.) I never knew what the cocktail Tea and Sympathy was. Sounds so good!

  4. That school of fish sculpture is fab, I love it! I had plum infused vodka once at a Ukrainian Christmas feast — yum! And I love how SG has got all his serving dishes labeled! He’s a Man With A Plan!

    1. Debra:
SG’s plans tend to get too big, but at least he’s organized in these situations. Plum infused vodka sounds good. We’ll see if todays choices are a hit with our friends. I love the school of fish!

  5. I do like that sculpture. The fishes actually look like a school of fish underwater. I think they should call it a “ballet” of fish, really.
I surely hope we get a few pictures of this feast. I am prepared to be amazed.

    1. Me again. Took a second look at the picture on top and now see that it IS the inside!

I think I was too distracted by all the fish to notice the physical reality. That makes it an even more interesting piece of art.

    2. Me again. I took a second look at the top picture and now see that it IS from the inside!

I think I was distracted by all the fish to take note of its shape. That may make it an even more interesting piece of art.

  6. Take photos of the food when all those bowls are filled, please. I hope the feast is successful and be sure to give those kitties extra treats!

  7. Lovely young man in my local wine shop wished me a “happy fesivus for the rest of us” the other day. I asked when was he going to put up the aluminum[sic] pole?
    Cheers!

      1. I had to look it up..! Never heard of such a thing (but then again, I hated Seinfield. An American invention that hasn’t taken off here in the UK, thankfully. Jx

        1. Jon:
I loved the show. But then it reminded me of my friends in NY in earlier years who, sadly, were very similar.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
Dudo would climb it… if he didn’t have a nervous breakdown from being outside.

  8. I really like the sardine school sculpture too. Does it light up at night? It would be an eerie, yet fun interactive experience!

SG’s organizational skills are awe-inspiring. Hope you take a picture of your holiday table when set with the Cyrillic place cards and Ukrainian decor (presumably?)…

Feline Navidad to you, SG, Dudo and Moose!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I didn’t see any wiring for lights, but I do wonder how the street lights affect it. Will have to take a walk one evening. Unfortunately no Ukranian decor other than the borders on the place cards. But there WILL be photos. Feline navidad to you, too! (Very clever.)

  9. Well when it comes to public art decided by City Councils the results are often dubious. It looks nice but it is often forgettable as Art goes. Enjoy the Holidays. Best Wishes.

    1. Laurent:
The public art in surrounding towns, even small towns, is surprising interesting which makes Fuengirola’s usual choices even more disappointing.

    1. Frank:
Yep, that’s where they come from. A 4-1/2 ounce container is the price of a small car.

  10. I like the fish art as well! Your dinner is so well planned — bravo to both of you. Moose looks like he expects a treat for going in the right place. Very dog-like!

  11. I hope there isn’t a whiff of fish in the air, LOL! You have changed your colour co-ordinates ~ bright colours in the bright sunlight! No patterns mis-matched. Here come 2024!

  12. It’s been a while since I’ve had proper time to read blogs. I want to say happy christmas to you and SG and those crazy cats what would be do without them. I am glad you are here/part of the blogging community. And for being a friend.

  13. Sorry I missed this yesterday! Are you having guests? lots of guests? It looks very inviting 🙂
    Merry celebrations!
    Judy

    1. Judy C:
Seven of us in total. Our friends, Tynan and Elena, their two adult children, and Elena’s sister who is also a friend. A fun and easy group to entertain. It was wonderful.

  14. Cranberry vodka sounds good. Blueberry vodka? Interesting. Tea? No. I sent a Christmas card to Chuck about a week ago. Merry Christmas to you and my fellow Midwesterner.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. janiejunebug:
I’ll check in with Chuck on the card. Thanks for your kindness. The cards make him really happy. I’m going to have him show them to me when I’m there. All the vodkas were a huge hit last night.
