Building bridges, doing planks / Construyendo puentes, haciendo tablones

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

I took my old 7 km / 4.5-mile walk yesterday without a problem (except for blisters on the bottoms of my feet from my sneakers). I walked to the end of the Paseo and the beginning of the city of Benalmádena where I saw the new, permanent pedestrian bridge being completed to connect the coastline walk. This is the site of the make-shift bridge I fell off in May (click here). The bridge will be completed too late for my use, but it was nice to see. No more climbing over a wall and walking the plank. Also nice to see yesterday were the studs of all ages and genders enjoying the beautiful day. I managed to capture just a few for your viewing pleasure.

Today, I will email the draft contract to the estate agent with our changes. The draft contract we received was a nightmare. We couldn’t tell if it was simply a regurgitation of an old contract with our names and numbers added (incorrectly) or if she had misrepresented everything when we talked. San Geraldo went through it and wrote his reaction. I translated that and added more. We were so annoyed that we actually thought (as SG and Elena both ideated) we’d be putting all our furniture in storage and renting something temporary in Córdoba.

The agent wrote back with responses to some things while ignoring others. To her credit, she responded to most. She told me “it was just a draft” and that I should tell them what we want changed (um, just about everything). So, I went through it again this morning and crossed out or added as needed. We’ll see what she has to say about that. However, it looks like it really was a regurgitation with no thought given to the details. We’ll likely sign and receive the keys Monday (gasp). After that, we won’t have to deal with the agency again.

We (SG) found an excellent international mover who will use external lifts (elevators) both here and in Córdoba. Much quicker and more efficient. And so much fun to take pictures of. It will only be to the 3rd floor here, but I’m sure my heart will skip a beat when I see it going to the 7th floor in Córdoba.

    1. Judy C:
I think of that Seinfeld episode every time I consider using or not using an exclamation point. Still waiting to hear back from the agent. I sure would like to know that this is settled and we’re actually signing on Monday. Otherwise, back to square 1.

  1. Wonderful you were able to do such a long walk! Wow, quite a lot you and Geraldo are having to go through to get to your new home. Hopefully everything is straightened up shortly.

    1. chuckandrobin:
The walk was so good and a long time coming. Yes, hoping everything is settled this morning.

  2. I will miss all the bronze bodies and outlandish “sun rags” on them. Do take lots of photos as the movers do their work! I’m sure you will be finding new interesting sights and people to show us in your “new” life.

    1. sillygirl:
Since there’s no beach in Córdoba, I’ll wander the parks in search of bronze bodies.

  3. Nice day out, such pretty scenery. I am glad to hear the lease is coming together. And yes, most of them are just change the names and sign here. I am having flashbacks to working with the General Counsel’s office at my former employers, you know the lawyers that protect the lawyers – a simple contract could take weeks of fussing over.

    1. David:
We’re supposed to sign Monday, so we’d better hear soon from the agent or we may be starting over.

  4. Keep counting down the days to the end of the estate agent; she sounds awful.
Glad you got a good walk in and saw some of your old haunts.
Lastly, I’ll miss the Beach [and Paseo] Beefcake.

    1. Bob:
If we make it to the Monday signing, that should be the last time I have to talk to her. I was thinking I’d soon have no more beefcake to share. But I’m sure there’ll be plenty in the parks in Córdoba since there are no beaches for them.

  5. That agent sounds like a real nightmare. Your Spanish must be really good to be able to navigate the legalese in a different language! I will miss your beach photos! That first shot makes me want to get back into yoga again! (Though I would never look like that!)

    1. Michael:
We use Google translator for the legalese. I try but get lost in it. I get lost in it in English, too!

  6. Boud here, thanking you for the scenery! I’m wondering what will take its place in Cordoba.. And hoping the dealings with the agent will soon be completed. I’ve seen pictures of those external movers in Paris, no elevators, got to move furniture somehow. A bit hair raising when it’s yours.

    1. Boud:
Someone across the street used one of those external movers several years ago. I had never seen one in action.

    1. Jim:
All systems are not go until we hear back from the agent about what I sent her yesterday. We will both rest easier.

  7. Your agent needs to be reported to “some one” ~ gees louise! So no more eye candy after leaving Fuengirola?! I’m sure you’ll find someone showing off their abs in Cordoba!

    1. Ron:
I get the sense the agent has no training or professional skills. I wish I could report her. Although Córdoba has no beaches, there are a lot of parks. SG reminded me yesterday that’s where I’ll find the abs.

  8. From the 3rd Floor to the 7th Floor makes me think of the theme song to The Jeffersons …. “moving on up yada yada yada deluxe apartment in the sky”. Your agent sounds like she’d be a good fit for our current management crew.

    1. Shirley:
You don’t know many times I thought of using that as the title for one of these posts simply because we’re moving a bit north. And, yes, I think the agent would be a perfect fit.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
I wonder what Córdoba fashion is like. SG commented that I’ll probably find the bodies in all the parks.

  9. I think these preparations for change are doing you good. It seems like it anyway.
So do you think that agent is someone’s not-too-bright cousin? The last contract Mr. Moon sent out to be signed for a new tenant in our commercial property took him about three days to write. That man is thorough.
I cannot imagine having a body so fine that it would occur to me to do any sort of exercise like that in a public place. But how nice that some do.
    Ms. Moon

    1. Ms. Moon:
Yes, this has been a great distraction. I haven’t been feeling sorry for myself. I, too, wonder if the agent is related to somebody and that’s how she got the job. She’s clearly not a licensed agent. Even people without “perfect” bodies exercise on the beach. I’ve done it.

  10. Please take lots of photos of the furniture leaving and arriving. I’ve never seen that in action other than in old cartoons with pianos (that fall). Speaking of pianos… maybe you could just hoist that thing down to the curb and the Cordoba equivalent of Steve could rescue it and take it home! (just teasing Steve)

    1. I’m with Kelly! As they will have the elevator up to your window anyhow, why not give it to the movers as a tip? Jx

PS I have seen those type of moves in action many times – external elevators are essential in old Amsterdam (given how steep and narrow the stairways in all those wonky buildings are), otherwise (like in days of yore) all the furniture has to be winched up and down on a rope!
PPS Nice beach totty – I am certain the profusion of parks and gardens in Cordoba will no doubt provide you with many similar photo-opportunities…

      1. Jon:
I think SG is happy about the piano now. Besides, you know how much we’d have to PAY the movers to accept that tip? I had seen furniture winched up in Amsterdam. It must have been too long ago for elevators! I’m sure you’re right about Córdoba’s parks. The bodies have to go somewhere.

    2. Kelly:
Oh, I will be taking LOTS of photos. I thought of that with the piano. But we’d have to pay the movers a lot extra for that. Besides, I think SG is now looking forward to having the piano. I have so much good stuff for Steve!

  11. The woman in the black suit looks like her right boob is going to fall out at any minute. Do you wear socks? I’m wondering about you getting blisters. Did you know that one of Calvin Coolidge’s sons died from a blister he got while playing tennis? It got infected and . . . no penicillin. Coolidge’s sons went to the same prep school as my daughter, but not at the same time. They went there when it was a school for boys only. The school started accepting girls during the ’80s. An old woman told me once that she thought the school shouldn’t ever have allowed girls. I said, I don’t agree because my daughter goes to school there and she’s kicking all the boys’ butts!

    Love,
    Janie

    1. janiejunebug:
The boob was secure. From the front you could seen how well balanced and fitted they were. Thank goddess for penicillin.

    1. Steve:
We’re apprehensive about the signing since the agent has been so unreliable. Hoping it all goes smoothly.
