What they say about big feet / Lo que dicen de los pies grandes

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

Big shoes! That’s what they say about big feet. San Geraldo has the hands to match. A ring that fits his pinky easily slips on my thumb. Anyone who receives a text message from him is shocked. It’s a rarity. He complains that his fingers are just too big to use on a mobile phone screen. Difficult enough on a desktop computer keyboard.

Last night while we were out to dinner at La Fábbrica and SG needed to send a quick message to Tynan and Elena in Fuengirola. It was slow going. His finger hits three keys at once. They wrote back and I did all the replying with my more refined digits.

Dinner at La Fábbrica was, as always, delicious. SG had what they call a Banksy pizza and I had the most exquisite spinach lasagna I’ve ever tasted. No room for dessert.

We enjoyed a slow walk home (a 22-minute walk that took us perhaps 30 minutes) around 10:45. The temperature had dropped to 34˚C/93.2˚F. SG got a chill. Well, that was when we passed the open door of another restaurant with AC blasting.

SG bought a new (to us) melon the other day. The sweetheart melon was originally developed in Korea. It was very good although I don’t think we had the best example. It’s known for its extra sweetness. I found ours to be only mildly sweet. Maybe we’ll try again. Meanwhile, toad skin melon is still my favorite.

I don’t know what I’ll do today other than laundry and exercise in the house; oh, and ordering that care package for The Kid Brother. It’s still supposed to be over 42˚C/108˚F through Monday. Sunday is forecast for 45C/113F.

It’s only 35C/95F right now. SG is walking 10 minutes to the post office to return his shoes. That will be enough for him for the day, I’m sure. Maybe I’ll go around the corner for some photos of the new water garden.

¡Zapatos grandes!

• Sweetheart melon
• Banksy: Mozzarella, salsa de tomate, bacón, pollo braseado, cebolla pochada, nata, pesto.
• Banksy: Mozzarella, tomato sauce, bacon, braised chicken, sautéed onion, cream, pesto.
• Lasagna: Bechamel, parmesano, ricotta.
• The shirt would suit my build (at least I think so) but not necessarily my style. The pocket square and the upturned collar? Nope. I kind of like the color. But, as I think about it, maybe not for me. What do you think?

  1. I have heard what they say about big feet and size _ _ _ _ s. The Pizza looks delightful. The shirt would keep the chill off on the late summer evening walks home.

    1. David,
You left the space blank for “shoes.” The shirt would be for late fall evenings, I think.

  2. San Gerldo has big hands AND big feet?!?!?!?!? Now we KNOW why your always in a good mood!!!!!!!

And I love that shirt and I disagree, I think that would look very handsome on you I was thinking.

    1. Mistress Borghese,
Thanks, I’m considering the shirt. I trust your judgment. So many reasons to love SG. And, although I don’t have big hands and feet, there’s plenty to love about me, too.

  3. As usual, the food porn is fabulous.
I don’t know about the shirt … it screams “I just got assigned to the prison laundry” to me.

    1. Bob,
But I DID get assigned to the prison laundry. Oh, how I’d love a meal with you guys at LaFabbrica. We could spend the meal confusing Carlos and SG.

  4. The melon looks good — you don’t slice and chunk them? Maybe I’m too fussy.
The shirt looks a bit Russian conscript to me, but that’s just me.
    Boud

    1. Boud,
My mother and SG’s mother always cubed everything. SG serves it this way when it’s just the two of us, and I’ve adjusted. Ooh, Russian conscript. On second thought.

  5. On the shirt…..looks heavy with those pockets. Yet, we all know you look good in everything you wear.
Temperatures appear to be VERY HOT all over the northern hemisphere. I, for one, am very tired of it all. Bring on the fall and winter.

    1. Jim,
The fabric is actualy light weight but it sure wouldn’t be for summer here. Yeah, I look forward to fall. 43 today. 44 tomorrow. 45 Sunday. It limits our activity.

    1. Judy C,
I couldn’t believe how good the lasagna was. I had SG’s leftover pizza for lunch. Excellent.

  6. The shirt would not be my first choice. Too many buttons and decorative touches in my mind. Ironing it would be half an afternoon’s project. However, if you wore it, I am sure I would love it.
When I first met Glen I was a wicked, wicked nursing student woman and I got him a T-shirt made that said, “6’10” and Well Proportioned.” For some unknown reason he wouldn’t wear it.

    1. Ms. Moon,
I’m shocked. Glen wouldn’t wear the shirt? No, I’m not at all shocked really. Anyone who would wear that would drop in my esteem. I bought my sister-in-law a T-shirt that said “Things behind this T-shirt are larger than they appear.” She didn’t wear it either.

  7. Your style of shirt but fabric looks like it will always be wrinkled. Some people don’t cook….others don’t iron.

  8. Your food porn rarely disappoints, Scoot. I’ve never even heard of Sweetheart or Toad skin melons! I’m mildly allergic to cantaloupe and honeydew melons, but not watermelon. Does a Toad skin melon taste like those?

100% Linen is a great choice for hot temps, but a bitch to iron all the time. A blue or grey linen shirt with a Nehru collar would suit you too.

    1. Tundra Bunny,
I’m actually looking at linen shirts with those short collars. I’m going to start having Merchi iron our shirts. She offered to. We both have shirts we haven’t worn in years because they need ironing. Toad skin melon is excellent. Kind of a cross between honey dew and cantaloupe. So, sadly, not something you’d enjoy. It’s called Santa Claus melon or Christmas melon in the States. Never heard of it until here, where it originated.

  9. SG must have coined the joke phrase “fat fingers”!

That shirt? Nope. Not unless Roger Moore in a Safari suit is the look you’re looking for?

    Jx

PS Food porn again! (Although certain Italians of my acquaintance would kill anyone who put chicken on a pizza 😜

    1. Jon,
We’re not in Italy, so they’ll forgive us. The food is amazing. Roger Moore IS a good comparison but Maddie approves. Now what do I do?

  10. I think you could carry off that shirt with class. (Even with the collar and pocket square. But that’s just me…) But not if the ironing will be an issue. Olivia

    1. Olivia,
The collar up and the pocket square might have been a good late ‘70s look for me. Ironing wouldn’t be an issue for Merchi.

  11. Your food photos had my mouth watering! I don’t have big hands, therefore texting really isn’t an issue. But sometimes when I am typing, and I keep making errors, I use the microphone to do my text via audio. Has SG ever tried that? I am not sure if I am a fan of the shirt. It looks too much like a lightweight jacket to me. But that’s just my opinion!

    1. Michael:
I honestly prefer sending texts from my computer, but I can manage the mobile. It’s torture for SG. I wonder if he would consider audio conversion. I have a feeling he would find it annoying.

        1. Michael,
I have a cousin with a nasal, unpleasant (to me) NYC street accent. She used to send me texts using audio. The transcription device never understood anything she said. The conversions were entertaining.

  12. Food looks lovely! I like the shirt and think it would look good on you, subdued but stylish. Yeah, have your shirts ironed; if you don’t wear them because they need to be ironed, they’re just uselessly taking up space. FYI; I rather like the feeling of accomplishment ironing gives me, but I detest folding laundry. My fingers are on the large size of normal, and I have difficulty with phone buttons–dictating is very easy, at least on my iPhone. My next oldest brother was always quite fit and had the most “normal” build of the 3 of us brothers, and he always used a stylus with his phone buttons. I swear a lot of tech is designed by munchkins…

    1. wickedhamster:
Thanks regarding the shirt. I’m thinking about it. It’s a very Cordobes look and that intrigues me. And, yes, the shirts are uselessly taking up space. SG has a number of shirts he tried to wear today but they were two wrinkled. What’s odd is I find ironing very relaxing and satisfying and a great feeling of accomplishment. I don’t know why it seems such a big production to take out he ironing board and putting it away, especially now that it leads against the wall in the laundry room completely accessible. I like a rubber tipped stylus and that would make life easier for SG, but then he’d have to keep track of it!
