Yesterday was a bit of a lost day. Neither one of us could face the heat, which really wasn’t that bad considering what it’s been this month. Still, it reached about 40˚C/104˚F. Today is a bit better, although not by much. However, it’s supposed to be significantly better tomorrow and better than that Thursday.
To cheer ourselves up last night, we went to Goiko Grill and were lucky enough to see the two Antonios. The team there is excellent and “the Antonios,” who call the shots, are two of the best. Really, they were the reason we wanted to return in the first place. You can see them both below. Antonio on the left does well with English and likes to practice, so we have interesting Spanglish conversations. But they are both charming, kind, smart, funny — all things that we hold dear.
They’re sweet, too, but not sweet enough to cause me to have reflux like the Goiko cookie. I really do need to stop having the Goiko cookie after having the rich and cheesy and oniony burger. Last night, I knew I would not have dessert. When the time came and Antonio-on-the-Left asked, I immediately said “no” but I saw in San Geraldo’s eyes that he was about to say “yes.” So I changed my answer. Yes, I’m that easy. Besides, how could anyone say ”no” to Antonio? After the night I had, however, I told SG I can’t do it anymore. Hyper from the late-night chocolate overdose and the awful thoughts that fly around in my head lately, I was grinding my teeth shortly after we went to bed. San Geraldo woke me up to tell me. I don’t think I’ve done that since I stopped working 14 years ago. I took a pill. A short time later, I woke up with awful reflux. I took a dose of something for that. I was awake for another couple of hours. I suppose I could go back, have a salad, and spend time with the two Antonios. Still, I love their “cookies.”
Today we went shoe shopping for San Geraldo. The owner of the shop where I bought my Fluchos last week told us about a shoe store that specializes in large sizes for SG. It’s only about a 15-minute walk from here, but it was too hot for that. So we took a taxi and then walked to the nearby shopping mall, La Sierra. We had lunch at one of only two or three options, SG sat and worked on his book, and I wandered the mall. I found it disappointing. When I returned to SG, the quiet spot he had found for himself now included a family of 6, two sets of twins and their parents making a whole lot of noise. He was happy to leave. So, now, before a dermatology appointment this evening, I’m going to try and catch some of those ZZZs I missed last night. I hope I don’t dream of the Goiko cookie. Maybe I’ll dream of the Antonios.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, San Geraldo has four new pairs of shoes!
Hoy fuimos a comprar zapatos a San Geraldo.

‘Antonio to the left’ it is!….one way to distinguish them from one another.
I thought we were bad when shoe shopping! Good for SG/four pairs……enjoy!
Jim:
There are other ways to distinguish them! Do you wear an unusual size of shoes? This is the first time ever that SG has had actual options.
I don’t think it is unusual…..size 12 to 13 depending on style and brand.
Jim:
That’s why I don’t order shoes online.
I haven’t traditionally shoe shopped for years. My wife buys mine online

Adam:
SG regularly orders online and mostly has to either return them or exhange for a different size. It was nice for him to be able to actually try on all different styles. I’ve never ordered shoes online. I wear 11 in this, 11.5 in that. Once recently it was a 10-1/2. Do you tend to be successful with mail order shoes? I get harder to fit as I get older. It used to be I could make do with most anything. Style came first.
Oooh, that cookie would do me in! Good luck to you in resisting. Olivia
Olivia:
I WILL resist. It was a bad week and I thought “Oh, who cares anway!?!”
I hate having to buy shoes. Well, I hate shopping for clothes in general. The last two pair I bought online. One brand I won’t bother with again as they stretched out after about 6 months but the other I love but I had to return the first pair and reorder because they were too big but now I know my size with them.
Ellen:
SG hates shopping in general. I enjoy it, but I’m not much of a browser. I like to look and buy. SG has a frustrating time buying shoes online. They’re usually not a good fit and he has to exchange then or return them. It was amazing for him to have so many choices and to be able to try them on. Usually, in shoe stores he simply says “Show me whatever you have in a 50 [15].” If he’s lucky they’ll bring out ONE pair of shoes.
The Antonios look like they’d make a very nice sandwich or two. *Wink, wink*.
Deedles:
They’ll be pleased to know it’s not just the men who think so. And a duchess no less!
An Antonio sandwich and that dessert sounds like a great way to end the day.
David:
Yeah, the Antonios make the entire day better.
What I want to say is “Clearly you are putty in the hands of the two Antonios” but I won’t, because it might be taken the wrong way. Or the right way. Oh dear, why don’t I just shut up now?
Debra:
They make us always want to go back for more.
With the Antonio eye candy, no wonder you wavered about dessert. Just sayin’.
I guess sg seized the day once he found shoes that work for him. Good idea
Boud:
Yep, the sweet tooth has to be filled somehow. It is unheard of for SG to be in a shoe store where he finds options. I found nothing in my size because they were having a clearance sale to welcome the winter merchandise. I’ll have to got back. But the sale was incredible for SG. And then we had to lug around four shoe boxes, plus his book bag!
An Antonio Manwich would be desert enough for me.
We are back in a cool spell here in SC … days in the mid-80s and nights in the 60s … I’m waiting for something horrid to happen.
Hooray for SG and the Shoe Hunt!
Bob:
I’ll tell the Antonios you said so. That’s the first time SG has had so many options for shoes and styles. AND the owners were wondeful. Old fashioned personal service.
“Antonio on the left” is rather cute! As for the “other” sweet, I think I’d need an Omeprazole before even tackling it… Jx
PS I love shopping, too!
Jon:
Antonio and the other sweet are hard to resist. SG hates shopping.
When a man who wears shoes as large as SG’s finds ones that are his size, he has to buy them if they are even vaguely suitable. I know this story well.
May your sleep be much better tonight.
Ms. Moon
Ms. Moon,
SG was in heaven in that shop. So rare to have choices. Sleep WAS so much better!
That dessert looks decadent. Hope you get some good rest. I’m struggling lately, too, trying to get meds and BP adjusted. Yay for SG’s shoes!
Kelly,
My meds and condition are doing a number on me. I try to maintain a good attitude but it doesn’t always work. Oh that dessert!
The Antonios fill their T-shirts nicely, but even if they didn’t that dessert at the top of the post would be too hard to resist.
Kirk,
Yes, there’s something about those Goiko T-shirts.
Woo hoo for four new pairs of shoes!
The food sounds divine— sorry to hear that it caused such trouble.
I just checked our St Louis temperature and, so I also checked Córdoba… it’s only 77F there (at 4:30 a.m.)… 74 here. We’ve had gorgeous days in the mid 70s F with no humidity the last few days… really a delight.
Judy C
The food is so good. Mid 70s this morn. Mid 90s this afternoon. Not bad.
I’d have asked Antonio (on the left) if he’d be so good as to put some cream on my dessert – and would be ever so thrilled if he’d returned having done so.
Raybeard,
He’s a dreamboat.
One hundred and freaking four?!?!!?!
We’re getting our first taste of Autumn this week with highs in the low 70’s and down to 50 at night. I >MIGHT< venture outside today.
Rade,
We’re enjoying coffee outside today. Mid 70s. Climbing to mid 90s. It’s getting better.
