San Geraldo assembled my new, cool, office chair this morning. Given the state of my hip, he assumed yesterday when the box arrived that he would do the assembly. I insisted I would do it. After all, I’m the young fit one. Right? But, every time I considered it yesterday, I reconsidered.
So, while he worked, I began this post during which I took a break to stretch, wash the breakfast dishes, stretch, change the bed linens, and stretch. Anything to avoid sitting for too long. The weather is glorious for a long walk, but then there’s the stupid hip. I have at least found positions for sleep that work fairly well to keep from aggravating things.
The chair is well-made and exceptionally packaged, and it even comes with a pair of white gloves for assembly. Although the white gloves look small enough to fit my mother who had small and delicate hands, they do stretch and could have worked for me. However, no one considered San Geraldo’s hands. He tried one on. It was tight and uncomfortable and the demo reminded me of the OJ Simpson trial and the embarrassing, “If the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit.”
When I did laundry yesterday, I once again hung my Calvin Klein briefs on the line. I only had four pair and was frustrated because three were black and one was light blue which meant I couldn’t break them up visually and had to hang two black pair next to each other. When I got back downstairs and put away the clothespins, I discovered another pair of washed light blue Calvins still in the laundry bag. Dammit! Despite the urge, I did not go back to the roof to rearrange the underwear. The lone blue pair dried on the terrace. But the thought of that still bugs me.
Meanwhile the new chair has me sitting high in the saddle which takes the weight off the hips and spreads through the upper legs. I already love it. I finally rehung the picture on the wall over my side desk. Since our old drill wasn’t good enough to get through many of our walls, I had used a self-adhesive hook. Twice. Designed to hold multiples of the weight of the mounted photo, I was surprised when the hook pulled away from the wall both times. We bought the new drill in August so I could finish hanging things in the house, specifically the rest for my office. Well, finally, I hung the one photo today. It’s too high on the wall because the self-adhesive left a long vertical mark that I didn’t feel like patching. So, now I have to do some arranging of new things on the desk to visually fill the space. Still, I made progress.
Aun así, he avanzado.

• Already splitting at the seams. The man can’t be contained.
