Be a lamp unto yourself / Sé una lámpara para ti mismo

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

WE HAVE A NEW LAMP on the pub table (lovingly restored by Marisa, click here) in the living room. The lamp is exceptionally lifelike. It even has a pivoting head to aim the light in just about any direction. Unfortunately, it shows signs of being a bit temperamental.

• Life-size
• De tamaño natural
• Pivoting head
• Cabeza pivotante
• The only way to turn on the lamp is with the flash on my camera.
• La única forma de encender la lámpara es con el flash de mi cámara.
• I think Dudo likes the smell of the orchid food.
• Creo que a Dudo le gusta el olor de la comida de orquídeas.
• Hotel Ilunion lobby light fixtures when the doors opened during our windstorm Thursday.

    1. Jim:
The new lamp is very portable, too. The winds off the beach are wild in the hotel lobby.

  1. Purrrty! (sorry that is punny.) I wouldn’t stand under those light fixtures in the wind

    1. David:
There’s a seating area below those ceiling fixtures, too. When the doors opened, all the pillows blew off the chairs.

  2. Sometimes I just don’t get those old sayings…I just can’t imagine wearing a lampshade “unto myself”. We have a “solar” cat light that I call my Cheshire Cat that has big eyeglasses that light up at night. But not as eerie as yours.

    1. Frank:
Yeah, I can’t decide if I should be a night table lamp, chandelier, or maybe even a wall sconce unto myself.

  3. The new lamp made my day. The blowing light fixtures look like a work of art. The orchids are gorgeous, Scoot.

    1. Deedles:
The new orchid’s flower stems are now too tall for the stakes. Glorious.

    1. Bob:
Yeah, I hoped those light fixtures were secure. The pillows in the seating area below the lights blew off in the wind, and it was even a fight to get out the door.

  4. Better not let your new lamp…er, Dudo ride the Roomba or you’ll all have laser burns on your legs! As always, LUV the pink orchids too…

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I wonder if Dudo would get anywhere near a Roomba. THAT would be a kick. The orchids are so satisfying. Color for weeks.

  5. What a beautiful setting for your new Dudo lamp. The synergy of the colors, shapes, and textures is a delight to explore.

  6. At first I thought, “How does that lamp swivel?” Then I realized you were talking about the cat. LOL

That wind on the hotel light fixtures looks intense! I’m not sure I’d have wanted to be sitting beneath them.

    1. Steve:
I wasn’t sure I wanted to even be standing near the light fixtures. I hoped readers would wonder about the red swiveling lamp in the first photo. Thanks!

    1. Kirk:
Ha! I hadn’t thought of that. It’s a good thing we’re not in a fly zone.

    1. Urspo:
He’s enticed by the orchid food I use. It smells like fish. I can only smell it when I pour it into the watering can. But not Dudo.
