We had no apples nor other fresh fruit for dessert (and, yes, we had no bananas). And we were all out of Ines Rosales (or whatever San Geraldo was calling her that day, click here). But we did have a bar of Lindt 85% cacao chocolate and we also had digestive biscuits. So SG served up some almost Smores. It didn’t seem necessary to heat them up given we had no marshmallows. My digestive system was still out of sorts yesterday. So far today, it’s been OK, but I get the sense it won’t stay that way. At least the pills work.
I managed a walk yesterday before the heat reached its peak (and before the stomach turned). When I left the house it was a pleasant, dry 32˚C/90˚F. When I returned home less than two hours later, it was a less pleasant although still dry 39˚C/102˚F. Today is supposed to be more comfortable, only reaching around 35˚C/95˚F.
San Geraldo has made our reservations for our driving trip later this month. Cristina and Alfonso are getting married in Segovia and we’re turning it into a 5-day driving adventure, beginning with the 5-hour drive to Segovia. We forgot Maria’s 7th birthday this year, so I just have to find an appropriate belated birthday gift for her.
While out yesterday, I bought a new pair of shoes for the wedding. They can be worn for dressy or casual. I have little need for a pair of dress shoes. I have a couple of sports jackets, but no dress pants (I mean trousers). I might try to make do with a pair of chino types I have. It seems unnecessary to purchase a pair of dress pants when I haven’t worn them since my mother’s funeral in 2016. I have no clue what happened to those. I just have to see which look crispest and go well with the jacket I’ve chosen. We still have about 40 silk neck ties, so I think I’ll wear one. We’re glad dress is “whatever you feel like.” We were relieved to read that weather in the Castille and León region is significantly cooler than here.
Nothing much to report about the DHL delivery to San Antonio. I spoke with someone yesterday (supposedly in the States, but clearly not). We’ll see if delivery is successful today. Enjoy the rest of today’s variations. I have The Kid Brother to look forward to tonight. I’ll probably have a story tomorrow.

I can’t believe the lady in blue (and every other conceivable color and pattern choice) chose to carry an absolutely plain beige crossbody bag. I mean, why?? She should have just continued the crazy why-match theme. Such a disappointment.
Guess I’m missing out…most of my clothing is a single color. Predominantly black or white. I wear scarves to add color and/or pattern. Happily boring. Also, happily not likely to show up on some ‘what-not-to-wear’ website.
Mary
Mary,
That shoulder bag was such a disappointment. I wanted to color it myself. I used to do only solids. I’ve branched out a bit.
Don’t you love it when people are so self assured they wear stuff like that? And wear what you want weddings are the best kind because it’s not about the optics of a ‘perfect’ wedding but about the joy instead.
ellen abbott,
We’re excited about the wedding and meeting our friends’ families, too. I do admire people who throw things together like that although sometimes they make me dizzy and offend my own brand of aesthetics. More power to them.
I had to look up “Smores”. A very American thing, and they sound unappetising. I like chocolate. I can just about tolerate marshmallow on occasions (like in a “teacake” – but even then, it’s actually “Italian meringue”). But what on earth is a “Graham cracker”? Crackers over here are for cheese. Jx
PS Those two women obviously don’t have mirrors in their houses!
I agree crackers are for cheese, but I do enjoy eating graham crackers plain as a snack on occasion. They are a lightly sweetened, honey- or cinnamon-sugar-flavored wheat cracker. But not to sweet, just right.
Mistress Maddie,
I like graham crackers. Can’t find them here.
Jon,
I’m not a huge fan of marshmallows, except over the campfire and/or in S’mores. Digestive biscuits are an ok replacement, but graham crackers tend to have a nicer (my opinion) texture with the added flavor of honey. I had never heard of S’mores until I was with SG. At my cousin’s wedding (son of my first cousin) in 2015 (a weekend event in New Hampshire) there was a s’mores party one night. My two first cousins, his mother and her sister, had never heard of them. They were both already in their 70s. City people! Do you get the name?
Oh, I hope we’ll get photos of you and SG all dressed in a coat and tie, for the wedding 🙂 I’m glad you’re going on a trip again! Yummy chocolate and anything … looking forward to hearing how the chat with Chuck goes (went, by now).
3-1/4 more hours until the talk with Chuck goes.
‘Mix and match’ obviously was nowhere in their choices here.
I like SG’s way of thinking!! Makes sense to me.
Jim,
Well, they perfected the “mix.”
I am really trying not to judge this seeming trend of mixing the unmixable. Free expression is a fabulous thing.
However. I guess I feel more curious than judgmental. I mean- why?
I LOVE the little ramekins of nacho toppings. So perfect. But I think the kitsch in that patio may be even a little too much for me.
Says the woman about to go fill two ceramic hens and one duck with dirt to plant something in.
Ms. Moon
Ms. Moon,
I would describe your wonderful eclectic style as whimsy, not kitsch. As for the clothes, if it makes them happy more power to them… as long as it doesn’t nauseate me.
Did someone say “s’mores”?
Sending love your way.
Anonymous,
I don’t know who this is, but if you’re sending me love, I’m sending some back.
I like grahams and chocolate but do not like smores. I not a huge fan of marshmallow either. I almost missed this post, as blogger is apparently not updating the readers anymore or something.
And I HATE DHL Delivery. I have always used a company in the UK for these shirt and other clothing I like and have used it several times, and it is always delivered for whatever reason by DHL. Now of a sudden I have to pay some import fee to have it delivered by them, DHL not the clothing company… or they will send the package back. I have never heard of this before or on previous things I ordered from this company. I hope it is not a scam. I have yet pay it…still researching to see if it’s legitimate.
And those god awful combinations!!!! Now they need some fashion emergency girl..
Mistress Maddie,
Yep, I like graham crackers. Marshmallows are not something I would snack on, but I do enjoy them in certain things, especially
s’mores. Because, well, chocolate!
Maddie – have your alert problems spread to WordPress, too? I continue to get notified about Mitchell’s posts, but the Blogger Reading List is still only updating in fits and starts… Jx
PS Extra charges on goods from the UK? Blame Trump tariffs.
Jon:
This is driving me crazy, too. I just read blog posts that showed up on Blogger’s reading list this morning that seem to have been posted 2 or 3 days ago.
Those are some awful outfits. I don’t even know what to call them. You will definitely look better than that in a sports jacket and whatever trousers you choose as long as they don’t clash.
Love,
Janie
janiejunebug,
I have a plaid jacket, a boldly striped shirt, I’m thinking of pants with a stripe and a floral tie. I only worry the colors might clash.
I’m pleased to know that you would never wear such godawful things. Right? Mitchell, right?
janiejunebug:
Sometimes it’s very tempting.
I remember having to go to funeral a few years ago. Although it had been nearly a decade since I wore my dress pants, I was confident I could still fit in them and so didn’t go out and buy a new pair. The day of the funeral I almost choked my gut to death.
Kirk,
SG’s dress pants just fit and he knows he won’t be comfortable in them. My clothes are all too big at the moment!
…just not ready for THAT much heat…
Rade,
Summer in Córdoba is not for everyone.
A couple of years ago I bought a pair of trousers, just to wear to a wedding, they have not been out of the closet since.
David Godfrey:
Exactly! If I DO end up buying, they will be casual and wearable throughout the year. I’ve classed my act up (again) recently and have even been wearing real shoes.
Your temperatures sound awful! Even without humidity, those are high temps. Last night we had such a cool night it tied the record for low temperatures on this day! 50 degrees…in JUNE. I’m loving it!!
I also love the fashion pics you post. And SG wants deconstructed nachos? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose? At the very least I’d want the cheese melted all over the chips!
Love,
Jennifer
Jennifer
50 degrees. Jerry would be wearing long underwear.
The nacho cheese is actually not great. A cheese sauce.
Your fashion photos never cease to amaze me. When you wrote “Before the stomach turned”, it reminded me of the Carol Burnett Show and their recurring skit, “As the Stomach Turns”. I loved that show as a kid. I hope your digestive issues are getting better!
Michael:
I once wrote a soap opera I titled “As the Bowel Moves.” I was sitting by a river in England when I was 19 and I was bored. It was a letter to a friend and ended up being more than 6 pages long, hand-written of course. As I remember it, it was brilliant. Trust me on that.
I love the name. Once in high school, some of my friends and I wrote a soap opera for an English project. We called it “The Wedge of Light”, a take on the soap “The Edge of Night.” The whole premise was around people getting wedgies and a promiscuous daughter names Trixie. I laugh when I write this as we were just so stupid.
Michael:
I think you were comic geniuses and could have competed with SNL or SCTV.
Well, we thought we were comic geniuses as teenagers would. But looking back I think it was pretty stupid, but we did have fun writing it and performing it.
I don’t like marshmallow, exactly like eating a foam pillow. Then dark chocolate, oh dear. I’ll just have the graham crackers, thank you. Not that I’m picky or anything.
We need many wedding pictures when you get there, also you and SG together in some of them. Thank you, I’ll take four 8x10s and a dozen wallet size. Boud
Boud:
I’ve bitten into foam pillows in the past (to control my rage). I liked them. I hope to get lots of pictures from the wedding and our travels. Haven’t been to a wedding in a long time and it will be my first since we were legally allowed to marry in the USA. In the past, I couldn’t help but feel a bit of anger at any heterosexual wedding no matter how happy I was for the couple. This will be so different.
