Dudo and Moose were born 13 years ago yesterday, 10 days before we arrived in Spain. We didn’t meet until April 2012 and they moved in at the beginning of May. Here’s just a brief photologue of our time together beginning above with their first day spent with us, under the bed. By Day 2 they were asleep against my leg (under the dark blue sheet) and there was no turning back. Our apartment in Seville had six balconies; when the doors were closed the cats couldn’t see outside, so we rearranged the furniture for them. We are still rearranging our lives. They still hate to be picked up. Moose has never sat on a lap unless forced. We stopped forcing a long time ago because it was clearly not catching on. They now both allow me to rest my head on their bodies and to even kiss them on the head. Included are photos of them in their travel cages for their first trip to the vet. Dudo lifted the cushion and hid behind it. Moose watched everything in fascination. Now, they both just yowl (after a prolonged battle to catch them). Let’s hear it for the boys. Happy birthday to them.

  1. Happy Birthday, Dudo and Moose! You quickly and efficiently trained your humans and bent them to your will in true feline fashion! Keep on trying to trick them into giving you double treats every day!

  2. They are yin and they are yang. They are gorgeous and they know what they like and what they do not. And I know they are the joy of your lives. Happy birthday to those beautiful boys.

    1. Michael:
I saw a video of them at the shelter (miserable place) and fell in love. And I thought they might never find a home at that age. So glad we found them.

  3. Absolutely beautiful and definitely felines! So glad you learned to obey their rules

  4. Happy birthday to Dudo and Moose! May you have many more! Thank you, Mitchell, for sharing these sweet photos.

    1. Kelly:
I knew I had shared a lot of photos over time, but oh my god when I did my search! Lots of memories.

    1. David:
It didn’t take long at all. They’re such good teachers (ahem, manipulators).

  5. Happy Birthday to Moose and Dudo! They’re very lucky felines to have been adopted as a bonded pair too — they are living their best 9 lives with you & SG. Dudo & Moose’s antics always make me LOL!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
We looked for siblings and, especially at that age, wouldn’t think of splitting them up. They are quite the twosome. So different in personality.

  6. Happy birthday Moose and Dudo. So they were pretty much full-grown cats when you got them, huh? Probably why they don’t like to get picked up. You got to start them early for that.

    1. Kirk:
They were far from full size, but you’re right about them being pretty much adult and set in their ways. They’ve changed a lot but it’s been a very slow process.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
Yeah, they DID get extra kitty treats! I gave them both cuddles from the Mistress. They say thank you.

  7. Happy Birthday Dudo and Moose! I hope they got a “cake” of delicious soft cat food in a crystal dish!

    1. Jennifer:
They now get served on their own personal IKEA dishes. Poor boys.
