An apple a day and a yeast infection / Una manzana al día y una infección por hongos

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

San Geraldo had a large hiccup last week with his online grocery order from Mercadona. He told me he had begun his order and then never finished it. When he went back to it, it was gone. So, the next day, he started over again and completed it. Then he was notified that a grocery order was arriving that evening. The complete order he placed was supposed to arrive the following evening. Well, the first order had gone through even though he hadn’t completed his list. The next day, that identical order plus all the rest arrived.

He usually orders 16 containers (two trays) of cottage cheese. We have 36 containers of cottage cheese. I have yogurt, a few weeks of yogurt. For some reason, he ordered a lot of apples which means we have two times a-lot-of-apples. I somehow managed to fit most of it in the refrigerator but I told him he’s going to need to do some baking. Apple cakes. Apple crisps. Apple pie, maybe.

We were out with Shannon and Stacy Friday night and SG asked them if they liked cottage cheese, thinking he would share some so it doesn’t go past its expiration. Stacy said, “Yes.” Shannon said, “No! It’s like a yeast infection in a cup!” That made me curious, so I looked up images of yeast infections. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat cottage cheese again.

We had a great time together seeing the drone show Saturday night. More on that to come.

Shannon dijo: “¡No! ¡Es como una infección por hongos en un vaso!” Eso me dio curiosidad, así que busqué imágenes de infecciones por hongos. No creo que pueda volver a comer requesón.

Nos lo pasamos genial juntos viendo el espectáculo de drones el sábado por la noche. Más adelante les contaré más.

• No more room in the fridge.
• No hay más espacio en el frigorífico.
• I know. I know. All that plastic!
• Lo se. Lo se. ¡Todo ese plástico!

Too late to ignore Shannon. Besides I wouldn’t want to. But I can’t get the images out of my head. I never should have looked up yeast infections.

  1. Ewww!! A yeast infection in a cup OMG. That makes me shudder. I’ve never liked cottage cheese, now I’ll REALLY have to pass on it. Ha!

Apple cakes, apple pies, apple crisps…yes please! Now you’re talkin’! 🙂

    1. Jennifer:
I didn’t mind cottage cheese, but after looking at images of yeast infections, I don’t think I can get that out of my head.

  2. It must be surplus apple time. I got a double order of apples I hadn’t asked for this week. There are worse problems! Boud

    1. Boud:
I managed to get the rest into the refrigerator. The kitchen was beginning to smell like apple-picking time.

  3. Believe me, the cottage cheese aspect of a yeast infection is its least appalling characteristic, compared to the intense, burning, unbearable firecrotch it creates. Thank the Goddess a treatment exists for it.

    1. Debra:
But I never should have looked at pictures. Shannon wasn’t lying! And that’s not considering fire crotch!

  4. My mother, and Ron, loved/love cottage cheese. It’s the texture that turns me off. But hey, a good source of protein I hear.

    1. Jim:
Yes, cottage cheese is a great source of protein… as is a yeast infection, I’m guessing.

  5. I had cottage cheese mixed with Tuna for lunch yesterday. I think you can make a cheesecake with it, that would use a kilo or so. Applesauce will keep longer than fresh apples, a chunky applesauce with extra cinnamon would be a fun topping for the cheesecake.

    1. David:
Yes, applesauce is on SG’s list. I don’t like cottage cheese and tuna, but I did like it in cheesecake. Now I don’t know if I’ll ever enjoy it again.

  6. Hahahaha
Oh, I NEVER google anything ending in ‘infection’. I like cottage cheese, especially with some fruit.
And at least your fridge is full! Yum apple pie.

    XOXO

  7. Oh, yeah, probably shouldn’t have looked that up. That’s a lot of cottage cheese. I like it all right but it’s something that I don’t ever think to eat and so never buy it. For some reason the combination of cottage cheese and canned peaches comes to mind.

    1. ellen abbott:
Looking it up is now a major regret. Shannon was right! Canned peaches is what SG has with his cottage cheese most days, and blueberries.

  8. Oh, my goodness, what a hoot. I wish the yeast infection comment hadn’t come up. Eww.
My suggestions: cheese-stuffed pasta shells with the cottage cheese (sometimes people use Ricotta, or a mixture… you can absolutely do it with just cottage cheese, and I like it better that way).

Also, Cottage Cheese pie is WONDERFUL… I make it based on this recipe (I do blend the cottage cheese in the food processor… makes for a nice, smooth, light pie; I often make it in the summer, and add in blueberries and raspberries; I don’t use the aromatic bitters): Heirloom Cottage Cheese pie

    1. Judy C:
All great menu suggestions! If I can just get the yeast infection images out of my head!

  9. I’ve found two positive things about yeast infections. 1. Orgasms have orgasms! 2. After peeing, the bathroom smells like freshly baked bread.
See, I’m not always negative 🙂
I enjoy cottage cheese mixed with fruit cocktail.

    1. Deedles:
Wait! Yeast infections make for good orgasms? Do the orgasms smell like freshly baked bread, too? What’s not to like?

      1. Well, there is that intense itching that makes you want to grab a pinecone or sea urchin to scratch one’s nether regions. That’s the downside. TMI is my jam! I probably shouldn’t be proud of that, huh.

        1. Deedles:
TMI is SG’s jam, too. And he’s VERY proud of it. You should be, too. And oh the images in my brain now. Sea urchins and cottage cheese private parts!

  10. Don’t get me started on apple’s. My doctor told me to cut back on gin. He said Maddie…everytime you want a gin eat an apple instead. I says…Yes….but who wants to eat 27 apples a day?

  11. I choose to see potential when I look at your photos today. (and I choose to ignore the yeast infection comparison)

  12. I hate, loathe and despise cottage cheese on a good day, but you can use it as a substitute for Ricotta layers in a lasagna. Just rinse it with cold water thru a sieve and pat dry with a paper towel. It’s not bad when combined with spinach lasagna noodles, thick tomato sauce, lots of shredded mozza and Italian spices.

    1. Tundra Bunny:
Yes, cottage cheese, unlike yeast infections can be very useful. Well, maybe yeast infections can, too. I don’t know. Deedles says they’re good for orgasms and smelling like baked bread.

  13. Thank the Lord I never ate cottage cheese, never liked the look of it …. or yogurt. Icky creamy stuff.

  14. You can use cottage cheese in frittata (I think it replaces cream) and it disappears amid the eggs, hard cheese, spinach, etc… I make and freeze mini-muffins of this stuff…

    1. Anonymous frittata:
After Shannon, I think the only way I might be able to have it now is mixed into something.

  15. I don’t mind cottage cheese, but haven’t had any for years. How do you eat yours? What do you eat it with?
    Frances.

    1. Frances:
SG has it most mornings with canned peaches and blueberries. That’s how I would do it, too, when I had it for breakfast.
