Veronica Persica and IHOP / Verónica Persica y IHOP

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

Today’s series of three photos below were taken in Coney Island in 2017 when San Geraldo and I had flown to New York to visit the Kid Brother. It was our first visit the year after my mother died. We had arrived the evening before, were terribly jet-lagged, but still got ourselves out of bed in the morning to meet The Kid Brother at IHOP (International House of Pancakes) for breakfast. I could barely hold my head up. The Kid Brother is not big on physical contact (and that’s putting it mildly), but I know when I can get away with it. Especially for a laugh.

I chose the photo above because I thought the flowers went well with Chuck’s polo shirt. It was taken in the gardens of agriculture Saturday. It’s called Veronica persica (my new drag name). It’s commonly known as birdeye speedwell (among other names). The flowers are tiny, perhaps 1 cm (0.4 in) wide. These were barely noticeable in the weedy grass as I cut across to get a close-up look at something else. I tread carefully. I always do. If only!

  1. Veronica is nice, but I see you more as a Birdeye Speedwell. Remind me to give that name to something. Did someone say pancakes… 😋😋😋

    1. Wickedhamster,
I like the poetry of Veronica Persica. Chuck loves the pancakes. Jerry loves the syrups.

  2. … beautiful pictures, but I still see Chucky as a young child who used to follow me around at camp Kiwi💜

  3. Those ARE beautiful pictures of you and Senor Hermanito. Would that be correct? Whatever. Kid Brother does love the IHOP, doesn’t he? Well, who doesn’t?
    Senora Luna

    1. Señora Luna,
Señor Hermanito might be incongruous but i suppose it would be grammaticallyncorrwct. Good job. And yes he does love the IHOP.

  4. Wonderful pictures of you and KB. I had a friend decades ago, his name was Joe and I often wonder whatever became of him but anyway, he found and adopted the rattiest looking, really ugly little dog that he just adored and named Ruby Begonia. A perfect drag name.

    1. Ellen Abbott,
I love it. Flip Wilson: “Do da name Ruby Begonia strike a familya note?”

  5. Great pictures of you and Chuck. When he looks away, as if he really likes this but isn’t supposed to. I love the speedwell color. We have a lot of tiny flowers like this here, too. Flowers in/on the grass, familiar.. Boud

    1. Boud,
You describe it perfectly. Yes, the embarrassed smile is an indication that he likes it.

  6. Speedwells are the most lovely teeny-tiny flowers – we used to see them a lot when I was a child in Wales, but I haven’t seen any here in London for ages. And they compliment those charming photos of you and KB perfectly… Jx

  7. What GREAT photos of you both! You can get away with anything, I see.
We had ‘Birdeye Speedwell’ at former house and here as well. Very pretty.

    1. Jim,
Not anything, but i do get away with quite a lot. I know the boundaries, too.

    1. Kelly,
The photos make me smile. The drag name has a bit of the literary in it.

  8. Oh my lands….. I had all but forgotten but birdeye speedwell. When I was young we used to have it all over the place, it was so pretty and you’re right the flowers were so tiny. I don’t know if my dad treated the lawn or what he did but I haven’t seen it in years. The only place I see it around here anymore is in the park over at the edge of the wood.

  9. What a lovely and fun vertical triptych of you and your brother, Scoot! Those little blue flowers remind me of forget-me-nots.

  10. I think that this may be the first time I’ve seen the kid brother, as a grown-up, without his hat.

    1. Kirk,
Oh there have been photos. But it’s not common. I often tell him to remove his cap in a restaurant and sometimes for a photo so it doesn’t shade his face.
