Small hats be all fit / Pequeño sombreros be all fit

I was looking for lightweightcaps online. It was a waste of time; I would need to try them on. But the above image popped up during my search for small, lightweight caps and I wonder if you see it how I saw it. It was connected to a completely legitimate website, but how could they not notice?

I got a good walk in yesterday morning before the heat of the day. It was only around 32˚C/90˚F. It’s supposed to hover around 40˚C/104˚F again today. At the far end of my walk, I passed a gym called “beallfit.” In my typical fashion, I read it with Spanish pronunciation and wondered what bay-Ahl-feet meant. I also wonder how Spanish members and staff pronounce it.

I checked out a new bar/cafe just across the boulevard from us. We see it from our windows and it looks popular. It used to be a cocktail bar and has recently changed hands and service. We’ve been going recently to Roldan on Avenida del Gran Capitan, the largest of an excellent quality chain of pastry/coffee shops, all seemingly with mostly indifferent service. This one is huge and very busy. One waitress is warm and charming. The other staff act like they’ve never seen us before although they remember our orders (despite which, they usually get something wrong when they deliver it). I find staff often don’t even bother making eye contact.

So this morning, we tried the place across the street for coffee and second breakfast. Smaller, more personal, and very friendly. It’s 3 minutes from home instead of 7. We’re going to see if we can feel at home there.

The water garden across the street has a lot of “stuff” growing in it. I think much of it is not really desired. I wonder what’s going on with that. It looks like a mosquito breeding ground to me. But the City tends to be very responsible.

San Geraldo made tacos Monday night and they were delicious, with enough left over for Monday lunch. Something new and a fun change. What a guy.

I chatted with The Kid Brother last night. He has money, went bowling, and is planning to do better with finances this month. There was noise in the background, sirens and more, when he called (yes, he called me). He yelled, “What?” every single time I said something. I asked what all that noise was and he told me it was “just the TV but it’s no problem. I can hear you.” “Then why do you keep yelling ‘what’?” I asked. He turned down the volume. Then, while I talked he stared off to the right to the TV. I said, “If you’re missing something good, we can cut this short.” He said, “No, it’s nothing good.” He did a great job not glancing over to the TV for the next 15 minutes. And we ended our conversation with him muttering, “And don’t call me chief!” Say goodnight, Gracie.

Me pregunto qué estará pasando.

Buenas noches, Gracie.

• I’ve been trying so hard to get a good photo of the barn swallows outside our windows. Not one clear shot. Yesterday, I snapped this wide shot of Paseo de Córdoba and look what flew into frame at the right. In perfect focus.
Perfectamente enfocado.

  1. The barnswallows have arrived here, too. One day there was just one, just like the saying, then next day a skyful. But I couldn’t get pictures. Yours is great.
I’m glad Chuck’s doing better with money, if not with competing with the tv! Boud

    1. Boud:
We also have common swifts soaring above us. I hope Chuck’s spending money lasts the month this time!

  2. At least the lily pad and the beautiful flower blooming from it is pretty, but yes, otherwise it could use a bit of a good skimming. I don’t see what you are talking about in the picture of the girl. Unless you mean the lack of smile? But I have several hats that look like that I wear to the beach or in town trips. I only do ball caps when exercising or running.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
Don’t look so hard at the woman in the photo. I think a quick glance will show that her fingertips look like nipples.

  3. I believe I do not see what you see in the hat photo and my eyes hurt from staring so intently.
Good on the KB for his finances and not staring at the TV!
It’s 8:21 AM here and I want tacos desperately!!!!

    1. Bob:
I should have told you to just quickly glance at the photo. It looks like boobs and nipples. SG’s tacos were delicous. He hasn’t made them in years. I love them with the soft tortillas.

        1. Bob:
So sorry. I really expected YOU to see it immediately. You’re perhaps less juvenile than I gave you credit for.

  4. The carelessly placed pink fingernails? I wonder how the locals feel about English creeping in the name of the gym? Is there a word in Spanish that is spelled that way? The tacos look wonderful, we are going out to lunch today.

    1. David Godfrey:
I was surprised at how few saw what we saw in the photo. We’re so juvenile! The tacos WERE wonderful.

  5. The picture at top? The horizon line is not level. Oh, be-all-fit. Weird graphic on the side. The pond definitely is full of algae and scum. Does need to be cleaned out. I’ve asked this before but don’t remember if you answered it, if you did I guess I didn’t see it but what is first breakfast?

    1. ellen abbott:
Oh, leave it to you to comment on the horizon line. That bugged me, too But, no, at a glance it looked to me like breast with nipples (the painted finger tips). But I have the mind of a 12-year-old. First breakfast for me is usually yogurt, fresh fruit, and Special K.

  6. I love ponds with lily pads and blossoms. And you are correct….one never knows what critters are in those ponds.
KB is smart, and knows how to handle his big brother.

  7. I’ve never been able to get a decent photo of a swallow, and I’ve tried. They just move too fast.

That pond does look a bit rank, but the flowers and insects don’t seem to mind! Maybe the city is trying to foster an ecosystem?

    1. Steve:
I suppose the solution to swallow photos is to be looking at something else. I wonder if the gardeners are doing an all natural approach to the pond that will resolve itself, but I find it unpleasant currently. At least it doesn’t smell. That would put an end to things immediately.

  8. I may see what you see, Scoot. I thought the chick was being a little too brazen! Maybe I’m just a perv.

    1. Deedles:
I knew I could count on you to look at the photo as an adolescent would! We seem to be a small minority.

      1. I prefer to think that we just have a very creative way of perceiving things! I’m not going into how long it took me to see fingers.

  9. Yes, that hat picture does look like she’s topless. If you squint…

The pond looks disgusting, and in the heat you describe, probably smells, too.

What an opportune moment for you to take that photo! Swallows are lovely birds, but I’ve only every seen them once (in Essex). Here in London, as on the Costa del Sol, it’s always Swifts that arrive in summer. [Did you know that the two species are not even slightly related – convergent evolution at its best!]

    1. Jon:
Surprisingly, the water garden doesn’t smell at all. I hadn’t even thought of that. I just hope this is not its permanent condition. We have barn swallows and common swifts soaring all the time. It’s wonderful and it’s nice to know all the mosquitoes they’re eating. And, yes, I read about the birds after we arrived in Spain and saw them our first summer and I was surprised they weren’t related. I always thought of them as the same thing.

  10. Those are finger nips, not finger tips. Hello!
When we were down south and visited a park which is all beautiful gardens, there were volunteers wading in the water, pulling out the unwanted plants in the ponds. Not sure I’d want that job.
    Those tacos look glorious indeed.
Glad you have a new coffee/cafe choice.
    Ms. Moon

    1. Ms. Moon:
Yes! Finger nips. Ew, I would not want to wade in THAT water, but I do wish someone would make it more pleasant looking.

  11. I don’t see anything wrong in the first photo either, unless she’s wearing a hat instead of a cap?

That renovated pond is rather disappointing, though as Maddie pointed out, the lily pads and their flowers are pretty. The algae is out of control, but at least they’re not like the thick algal mats we get here on our southern lakes and ponds that turn pink and stink like sewage!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
So many clean-minded, mature readers! Like you. My thinking is if you quickly glance at the photo, it looks like she’s got her boobs front and center with pink nipples exposed. You’re right that the pond doesn’t smell, but I do wish they’d make it more visually appealing. And I do wonder how that’s not a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

    1. Kelly:
Ah, thanks for not letting me down, but sorry to plant the idea in your head! I’ve never seen a dragon fly that color either. And it stayed still for me, too. Too bad I didn’t have my other camera with the better zoom.

  12. The pink under her fingertips is supposed make you think they’re nipples? That’s all I can think of.

    1. Kirk:
I don’t know if the photo was intentional but at a glance I immediately saw boobs and nipples. I haven’t grown up.

  13. Lululemon makes these great super light caps called running caps. Perfect weight, adjustable and fun colors.

    1. Anonymous:
A couple of them look perfect. But no Lululemon nearby to be try one on and see what I think.
