All saints, tight squeeze, fashion / Todos los santos, apretado, moda

I was up at 6 this morning, buzz-cut my hair, trimmed my beard, shaved, and showered. I had to beautify before taxiing to the medical center at 8 for my now-quarterly lab work. All went smoothly, although I never heard them call my name and I then walked into the wrong room. Despite all my ablutions, I was still half asleep. I was home by 9:10, had breakfast, and went back to bed.

I told you yesterday that it was a holiday here, the observance of All Saints Day (which was Sunday). I read that most everything would be closed. Well, I went for a walk and found that less than half the shops were closed. Go figure. Although I wasn’t feeling my best, I still wandered (almost) happily.

It was 20˚C/68˚F when I left the house and 25˚C/77˚F when I returned home two hours later. There were plenty of people out but I managed to catch shots of the narrow streets with no one in sight. An actual body might have made the shots more interesting. I also did some window shopping, as you can see from the final two photos.

• The driver didn’t appear to be at all stressed after squeezing between those buildings. The building at right is a grand old private palace under renovation by the City.
• Begun in 1531 and completed in 1537, Cuesta de Luján connects Villa (the upper city) with Axerquía (the lower city). It was originally a dirt path; then paved with cobblestones for carriages; and finally in 1928 paved and stepped in “chino cordobes,” pebble mosaic, for pedestrians. A cuesta is a sloped street.
• Are those ovaries? As for the rest, I wonder if you see all the things I see. What were they thinking?
• At very minimum, in my snarky opinion, these two coats should not be displayed together. And I don’t know who thought the gray printed T-shirt and the baggy faded denim bottoms were a good idea.

  1. Window shopping, huh? How many did you buy? That dress looks kind of pornographically metaphoric or maybe metaphorically pornographic. What ever it is it’s fugly as hell!

  2. I assume that’s a one-way street that car is driving on. If not, watch out if someone comes in the opposite direction!
