WHEN WE ARRIVED for dinner at the very busy Restaurante Primavera Friday night, we received the usual warm welcome from the staff. Our friend May was working on the terrace, but we went inside into air-conditioned comfort. May followed to give us a quick hug. Her long hair was worked into a French braid. San Geraldo commented on how much he liked it and she said in English, “Yes. Like Ladacrowfut Tomebrider.”
“Like what?” I asked.
“Ladacrowft?” she repeated very hesitantly, “Tomebrider?”
And we got it. “Oh! Lara Croft Tomb Raider!”
May’s English is excellent, so she blushed at her mispronunciation. But I reminded her of the story I had told her about Rode Estigwar/Rod Stewart (click here for that post) and she felt much better.
CUANDO LLEGAMOS PARA la cena en el muy concurrido Restaurante Primavera viernes por la noche, nos dieron la cálida bienvenida habitual del personal. Nuestro amigo May estaba trabajando en la terraza, pero nos fuimos dentro al confort del aire acondicionado. May siguió para darnos un abrazo. Su cabello largo estaba tejido en una trenza francesca. San Geraldo comentó lo mucho que le gustó y dijo en inglés: “Sí. Como Ladacrowfut Tomebrider”.
“¿Como que?” Yo pregunté.
¿Ladacrowft? “ella intentó de nuevo, “Tomebrider?”
Y entendimos. “¡Oh, Lara Croft Tomb Raider!” [más como Tum Reider]
El inglés de May es excelente, por lo que se ruborizó ante su mala pronunciación. Pero le recordé la historia que le había contado sobre Rod Estigwar/Rod Stewart (haz clic aquí para esa entrada, en inglés) y se sintió mucho mejor.
