In case you haven’t noticed, I like to shop. I especially like to shop for clothes. Although I’m mostly very casual living here on the beach, I do like to dress things up a bit sometimes, even if it’s just the shirt (and the shoes, and the sunglasses, and the pants or shorts; oh, and the underwear and socks). I used to waste a lot of money on clothes. Now, I enjoy the outlet mall and good retail deals. But I’m still a sucker for some of the designer brands.
I rode the train Monday to Plaza Mayor and the McArthurGlen Outlet Mall. A four-hour outing. Such excitement. The train there (a 27-minute ride) had available seats the entire time. The train back was crowded, although not awful, and I got a seat halfway home. The shopping centre itself was fairly quiet thanks to the heat.
I found only two polo shirts for The Kid Brother. I’m going to see what I can find online. I didn’t buy anything for myself, except some CeraVe skincare products, but I did see lots of clothes of interest. I decided I need to go through my closet and drawers and cull before I add more. I had a light sandwich and a lemon-lime drink that was surprisingly refreshing. I topped it off with a chocolate chip cookie — which was a better choice than the mound of chocolate and sauce and I don’t know what else that tempted me.
It was exciting to be out and about on my own, but the heat and sun took it all out of me and I spent a couple of hours in bed before dinner. Today is pretty much the same as yesterday — slightly less hot than it’s been but still hot and humid. I think it will be a day for mostly indoor activities.
Por si no lo has notado, me gusta ir de compras. Me gusta especialmente comprar ropa. Aunque aquí en la playa vivo de forma muy informal, a veces me gusta arreglarme un poco, aunque sea solo la camisa (y los zapatos, las gafas de sol, los pantalones o shorts; ah, y la ropa interior y calcetines). Antes gastaba mucho dinero en ropa. Ahora disfruto de los centros comerciales outlet y de las buenas ofertas. Pero sigo siendo fanática de algunas de las marcas de diseño.
El lunes viajé en tren hasta la Plaza Mayor y el centro comercial Outlet McArthurGlen. Una excursión de cuatro horas. ¡Qué emoción! El tren de ida (un viaje de 27 minutos) tenía asientos disponibles todo el tiempo. El tren de vuelta estaba lleno, aunque no demasiado, y conseguí un asiento a mitad de camino a casa. El centro comercial en sí estaba bastante tranquilo gracias al calor.
Encontré solo dos polos de The Kid Brother. Voy a ver qué puedo encontrar en línea. No compré nada para mí, excepto algunos productos de cuidado de la piel de CeraVe, pero vi mucha ropa interesante. Decidí que tenía que revisar mi armario y cajones y descartar antes de agregar más. Comí un sándwich ligero y una bebida de limón y lima que fue sorprendentemente refrescante. Lo rematé con una galleta con chispas de chocolate, que fue una mejor opción que el montón de chocolate y salsa y no sé qué más me tentó.
Fue emocionante estar fuera y sola, pero el calor y el sol me dejaron sin fuerzas y pasé un par de horas en la cama antes de cenar. Hoy es un día muy parecido a ayer: un poco menos caluroso que ayer, pero aún caluroso y húmedo. Creo que será un día para realizar actividades principalmente en espacios cerrados.

• En San Diego había una maravillosa tienda de regalos llamada Babette Schwartz, llamada así por su dueña, una popular drag queen de San Diego. El nombre de arriba es el de una auténtica diseñadora española, Purificación García.
