We feel like we’re home. We arrived in Bergen yesterday evening. Our train ride was mostly pleasant, although we were tired and I felt kind of crappy. But, it was supposed to be about an 8-hour ride, which we thought would be more pleasant than the airports and a short flight. However, our train only went as far as the city of Vos, 1-1/4 hours outside Bergen (due to works). We were then offloaded to a bus, dragging all our luggage, that made two stops along the way and took about 2 more hours. We weren’t thrilled. But we bumped into one of Jerry’s cousins on the train; she was on her way home briefly from her summer cabin and we’ll see her again in several days. As she put it, we were traveling deluxe (bless SG) and she was traveling cheap. However, we rode the bus together to Bergen. Our hotel, Scandic Neptun, is great. SG reserved a junior suite. We completely unpacked and he decided to take a refreshing shower. The cold water tap didn’t work. The manager apologized and we agreed that we’d go out to dinner and they would move us to another room. Wow! They moved us to the presidential suite and left us chocolates and beer as an additional apology. The view is priceless. I’m feeling significantly better today. Still tested Covid negative. And Grumpy is so nice to wake up next to. I nearly forgot. During our buffet breakfast this morning, the busboy came back and asked in Norwegian if he should clear our table. I thought he asked if he should take away the plates and I said “yes, please,” (all I could muster in Norwegian). He started to clear everything, so I said in english, “I’m sorry. Just the plates.” When he left I remembered, I think, how to say just the plates in Norwegian.

Nos sentimos como si estuviéramos en casa. Llegamos a Bergen ayer por la tarde. Nuestro viaje en tren fue mayormente placentero, aunque estábamos cansados y me sentía un poco mal. Pero se suponía que sería un viaje de aproximadamente 8 horas, lo que pensamos que sería más agradable que el aeropuerto y un vuelo corto. Sin embargo, nuestro tren solo llegó hasta la ciudad de Vos, 1-1/4 horas fuera de Bergen (debido a obras). Luego nos bajaron a un autobús, arrastrando todo nuestro equipaje, que hizo dos paradas en el camino y tomó alrededor de 2 horas más. No estábamos emocionados. Pero nos topamos con uno de los primos de Jerry en el tren; ella estaba en camino a casa brevemente desde su cabaña de verano y la veremos de nuevo en varios días. Desempacamos por completo y decidió tomar una ducha refrescante. El grifo de agua fría no funcionaba. El gerente se disculpó y acordamos que saldríamos a cenar y nos cambiarían a otra habitación. ¡Guau! Nos trasladaron a la suite presidencial y nos dejaron chocolates y cerveza como disculpa adicional. La vista no tiene precio. Me siento significativamente mejor hoy. Todavía probó Covid negativo. Y Gruñon es tan agradable para despertar a su lado. Casi olvido. Durante nuestro desayuno buffet esta mañana, el ayudante de camarero regresó y preguntó en noruego si debería limpiar nuestra mesa. Pensé que me preguntó si debía retirar los platos y dije “sí, por favor” (todo lo que pude reunir en noruego). Empezó a aclarar todo, así que le dije en inglés: “Lo siento. Solo los platos. Cuando se fue recordé, creo, cómo decir solo las platas en noruego.
• Delicioso almuerzo en el tren. Salmón picante ahumado con pimienta.
• Por supuesto, San Geraldo tuvo que agregar un waffle para él.
• La vista desde nuestra habitación (una sola noche, por suerte) en Oslo.
• La vista desde nuestra habitación en Bergen (por 9 noches).
