I just returned from a long walk in what I thought was heat and humidity. But according to reports it’s only 28C (82F) and feels like 29C (84F), and the humidity is 59%. That’s hard for me to believe. But both websites I check (that never agree) are in perfect agreement. I guess we’re spoiled. Anyway, there’s no breeze! Yesterday when I went out, it was 27C(81F) but felt like 31C(88F) and the humidity was 82%. That felt more comfortable than today. There was a beautiful breeze. The plants aren’t complaining. We have several cacti and euphorbia that need repotting. I’m thinking of removing a couple of limbs from the one pictured below. It attacks Isabel every time she walks by. That’s a close-up above of its flowers. It’s beginning to bloom for the second time this year.

A breeze makes a big difference. I would take that branch off of the cactus, probably with my right elbow.
David:
It’s amazing how strong it is. It’s attacked me, hard, a few times and it sustains no damage.
We’re sitting at about 95-degrees with 100% humidity.
It’s vile …
Bob:
I remember those days in Washington D.C. Unbearable… but we bore them. We really have gotten soft.
Loving your plants ~ the trailing one has caught my eye ~ have always loved Med. plants. Oh my that tall one is imposing ~ still like it too! We are living in 99 per cent humidity right now. Not our cuppa cuppa! Hi Gerry!
Ron:
So grateful that kind of humidity is unheard of here. Hope you get relief soon.
I see a ‘haircut’ in the future of that cactus.
Humidity here is 99 % and the temp is 19C. I really don’t care for humidity.
Jim:
A haircut and then I have to decide where to put the new plant! I remember Washington DC at 95F and 99% humidity. Horrid.
Holy moly, that cactus has grown so tall in only 5 years! Clearly it has plans for world domination.
Debra:
I wish the cactus could take over the US Supreme Court.
That limb could be used to scare away burglars and uninvited guests. We have a heat advisory today. It’s supposed to be 99, but it will feel hotter than that. Probably 110 or so. Whoopee.
Love,
Janie
janiejunebug:
Florida in summer. Ugh! Too bad you have to leave the air-conditioning at times.
Impressive growth on your cactus! I think it might actually be a type of euphorbia, but I’m not sure.
I agree – definitely a euphorbia. Thorns generally in pairs and teeny flowers are the giveaways. Jx
PS Here in London, it feels like autumn; all blustery winds and showers. It’s almost always like this when Wimbledon Fortnight is underway…
Jon:
Yes a euphorbia and succulent, not cactus. I get lazy in my descriptions. We know a woman here who returns to England every year at this time to head up the Strawberries and Cream concession at Wimbledon.
Steve:
Yes, definitely a euphorbia and therefore a succulent. I get lazy sometimes.
It’s certainly thrived in your care! Seeing the kitties sniff that plant… are they catnip fans? Do they bother any of your plants?
Kelly:
The cats don’t bother any of the plants we currently have. We did have some grassy leafed plants that they liked. They’re gone. And they’re unimpressed usually with catnip. I’ve tried. They went nuts once and never again.
We just barely broke 21º yesterday. It’s supposed to get closer to 30º by week’s end. Promises, promises.
Walt the Fourth:
Be careful what you wish for. Such strange weather all around.
Beautiful plants.
It has been rather cool the last 2 days only 108. Last week up to 115+
Adorable kitty photo ! So handsome.
Anon:
I remember those 115 days from Palm Springs. I was out and about. Now I complain about 82!
I am always marveled at the cleanliness of your terrace. Where I live dust and sand gets in everything daily one cannot keep surfaces clean.
Urspo:
One benefit is we have the curtain with at most two windows open and screened. That helps. It also helps that Isabel polishes everything within an inch of its life once a week.
