San Geraldo finished the planting yesterday and between us we cleaned up the house. We love having live plants again and are inspired to plant some more. Before we began, we had 10 decorative ceramic pots to fill. We ended up buying three more for specific small plants we chose. SG also bought several new pots at Leroy Merlin that would better serve some plants (for drainage). He used three of our existing ceramic pots and did not use the three new ceramic pots. One was even handmade. (I have no idea what we paid for it, which is why we’re not rich.) So 10 very nice ceramic pots are all neatly stored in a closet.
I don’t know why but we didn’t watch the World Cup last night. I enjoy fútbol (not American football), but the corrupt FIFA president and the thought of how much money is being made by these people while others can’t even afford tickets (or food) sickens me and I often can’t get it out of my head while I’m watching. However, we immediately knew when Spain won from the roar out on the street. Horns honking, people cheering and dancing down the streets streaming huge Spanish flags in their wake. The celebrations went on until 3 this morning.
In the USA, the nickname for the American flag is “Old Glory.” The Spanish flag is commonly called “La Rojigualda,” (the red weld) from the term gualda, a yellow dye obtained from the weld plant.
La Bandera (The Flag), our new coffee and second breakfast place, has large-screen TVs, so hosted a boisterous crowd out on their terrace. I grabbed my “good” camera instead of my iPhone and zoomed in to record the celebrations from an open bedroom window. I wanted to share the spectacle with you. Then I got a message that there was a memory card error. Instead of an informative video, I got the image at top. I didn’t bother starting over with my iPhone. I don’t know why. Sorry.
Since San Geraldo hasn’t kept the kitchen stocked, there wasn’t a complete complement for breakfast at home this morning (we have a delivery coming tomorrow). So we went across the street to La Bandera for breakfast. Manuel and Álvaro were working and looked hungover. They were not. They were at work until 3 a.m. and were back in the early morning. Poor guys. They still managed to give us the warmest smiles and always seem genuinely happy to see us. A wonderful way to start any day. Oh, yeah, and they still looked better than I did. Handsome assholes!
San Geraldo terminó de plantar ayer y entre los dos limpiamos la casa. Nos encanta tener plantas vivas de nuevo y nos sentimos inspirados para plantar más. Antes de empezar, teníamos 10 macetas decorativas de cerámica para llenar. Terminamos comprando tres más para tres plantas pequeñas específicas que elegimos. SG también compró algunas macetas nuevas en Leroy Merlin que serían más adecuadas para algunas de las plantas (para el drenaje). Usó tres de nuestras macetas de cerámica existentes y no usó las tres nuevas. Una incluso era hecha a mano. (No tengo idea de cuánto pagamos por ella). Así que 10 macetas de cerámica muy bonitas están todas ordenadamente guardadas en un armario.
No sé por qué, pero anoche no vimos el Mundial. Me gusta el fútbol (no el fútbol americano), pero el presidente corrupto de la FIFA y la idea de cuánto dinero ganan mientras otros ni siquiera pueden pagar las entradas (o la comida) me repugna, y a menudo no puedo dejar de pensar en ello mientras lo veo. Sin embargo, supimos enseguida cuando España ganó por el rugido en la calle. Bocinas sonando, gente vitoreando y bailando por las calles ondeando enormes banderas españolas. Las celebraciones duraron hasta las 3 de la madrugada.

Como San Geraldo no ha mantenido la cocina abastecida, no había un desayuno completo en casa esta mañana (tenemos un pedido mañana). Así que cruzamos la calle hasta La Bandera para desayunar. Manuel y Álvaro estaban trabajando y parecían tener resaca. Pero no era así. Estuvieron trabajando hasta las 3 de la mañana y volvieron temprano. Pobrecitos. Aun así, nos dedicaron las sonrisas más cálidas y siempre parecían genuinamente felices de vernos. Una manera estupenda de empezar el día. Ah, sí, y todavía se veían mejor que yo. ¡Unos cabrones guapos!

• Maranta leuconeura (planta de la oración) flanqueada por begonia rex (no me pregunten de qué tipo).
