Peaky Blinders, Yumiko Tamura

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés.

Around 1983, San Geraldo bought an exceptional quality nylon trench coat by Japanese designer Yumiko Tamura. We were at a Bloomingdale’s (department store) outside Washington D.C. We both loved it; I wanted it, too, but he saw it first. Besides, it was retail. We still have the trench coat 41 years later and, except for needing to be pressed, it still looks like new. When he wore it this past season, he commented that he needed a stylish hat or cap to go with it. I began to describe a flat cap and he said, “That’s it. Like the ones from Stinky Binders.”

• Dudo says: “Give me a treat and no one gets hurt. By order of the Stinky Binders.”
• Dudo dice: “Dame un apertivo y nadie saldrá lastimado. Por orden de los Stinky Binders”.

  1. Boud here. That’s perfect! I can see a whole string of versions now. Pinkie Minders, for pearl clutchers, and more.

    1. Boud:
This could be a lot of fun. I do love the sound of Stinky Binders and I’m sure I’ll be screwing it up forever more.

    1. Bob:
I should have ironed the coat for the photo. It’s really cool. Dudo’s cap might be a tad smile for SG.

    1. Wilma:
We have so many miscommunications (and laughter) here. SG is always getting his words mixed.

  2. I associate trench coats more with the kind of hat Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) wore in the Pink Panther movies, which I’ve found out by googling is called a Trilby hat, but I don’t blame San Geraldo with not wanting to be confused with that particular character.

  3. Now THAT was a good buy. Quality pays.
I completely understand SG’s retitling. I like it.

It might be time for me to review some of San Geraldo’s misspeaks and his Spanglish. It’s nice when you actually do get what you pay for.

  4. More excellent photoshop work from Mitchell!
    Stinky Bindersssssss!!! haaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Judy C:
Photoshop? You don’t think Dudo actually has his own Stinky Binders hat?

  5. Hope SG can get all the wrinkles out of his trench coat… this reminded me of an episode of The Golden Girls when Sophia comes home dressed only in a trench coat, flashes Rose & Dorothy, and stomps off. Rose asks Dorothy “Was that Sophia or did her dress really need ironing?”

Dudo looks quite fetching in his Stinky Binders cap too!

    1. Tundra Bunny:
I had forgotten that Sophia episode. So funny. Dudo has a hat head. SO does SG. I do not.

  6. I’m glad I wasn’t drinking anything when I scrolled down to the photo of Dudo. There would have been a mess to clean up.

  7. Dudo’s picture cracked me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first cat detective? I have one trench coat. Also, from Bloomingdales when I worked there. It was a black and grey plaid from Burberry. Sharp as a tact! I couldn’t past up the good price I got it for with my discount. Sort of styled like the one in your picture of Cillian.

    1. Mistress Borghese:
I would have been in heaven with that Bloomies discount. I worked one Christmas at Macy’s and spent more than I earned.

    1. Jon:
This unusual trench coat requires something a bit less formal. I love Fedoras and Trilbys. Trilbys fit my face better. I have four.

  8. Wow, Mitchell! San Geraldo’s quite the looker – so young and hot. You did great. 😉

    PS Nice trench coat too.

    1. Adam:
I don’t know if it’s your style, but we both found it to be exceptional. Definitely worth giving it a try.

  9. I have a coat just like the one in Stinky Binders (lol), not SG’s. I used to wear it in SF winters, but have not had occasion to wear it since coming to France. Still, I’m reluctant to part with it.

    1. Walt the Fourth:
I love those elegant, city overcoats. I didn’t keep mine when we moved. Not a chance I’ll need it here — the weight or the formality.

  10. I have never watched that show, though I have heard it is good. I used to have a hat like that. It is somewhere in a box that I haven’t unpacked from moving!

    1. Michael:
I highly recommend Peaky Blinders. Violent, but fascinating, well-written, and well-acted.

  11. “Stinky Blinders” — ha! That cap looks perfect on Dudo!

I bought a flat cap like that years ago when Dave and I went to York. I never wear it.

    1. Steve:
I have four Trilbys I never wear. I should buy a flat cap to add to the collection.
